The document contains prayers, scripture passages, and reflections on how the church can reach out through justice, mercy, and partnership. It encourages doing justice by addressing systems of injustice, extending mercy to those in need without reluctance, and walking in humble partnership with ministries through financial support and active involvement. The goal is to join God in making wrong things right and showing solidarity with those on the margins, as commanded by scripture.

1. Prayer
Shepherd of Israel,
hear our prayer
as your Son heard the plea
of the criminal crucified with him.
Gather into Christ's holy reign
the broken, the sorrowing, and the sinner,
that all may know wholeness,
joy, and forgiveness.
Amen.
3. The righteous (faithful/just) flourish like the palm tree,
and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
They are planted in the house of the Lord;
they flourish in the courts of our God.
In old age they still produce fruit;
they are always green and full of sap,
showing that the Lord is upright;
he is my rock, and there is no
unrighteousness (unfaithfulness/injustice) in him.
PSALM 92:12-15
10. JUSTICE
we want to do justice, not simply
not do injustice; we want to join God
in seeing wrong things made right
in our city
11. MICAH 6:8 (NRSV)
He has told you, O mortal, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness/mercy,
and to walk humbly with your God?
MICAH 6:8 (MSG)
Do what is fair and just to your neighbor,
be compassionate and loyal in your love,
And don’t take yourself too seriously—
take God seriously.
12. JUSTICE
- Justice is not < mercy, but ≠ mercy
- Justice addresses the structures/systems
behind emergencies of present need
- Justice is active/intentional/tangible,
and is something we’re commanded to do;
it’s not a trendy, extra add-on based
on modern progressive ideology
- Justice ≠ gospel, but is a natural extension
of our present/future hope rooted in it
14. MERCY
we love mercy, and look for
opportunities to join Jesus
in his solidarity with those
who live on the margins
15. LUKE 10:36-37 (NRSV)
Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor
to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?”
He said, “The one who showed him mercy.”
Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”
16. MERCY
- We are called to do this in/with love,
not reluctantly or begrudgingly
- Anyone is capable of extending mercy,
and everyone is worthy of receiving it
- Financial generosity is one way we
practice mercy, individually/communally
- This must be lived out thoughtfully
so we don’t unwittingly perpetuate injustice
while striving to be helpful
19. PARTNERSHIP
we try to walk in humble partnership
with local and global ministries,
not just with our finances,
but with our hearts,
hands and feet
20. PHILIPPIANS 1:3-6
I thank my God every time I remember you.
In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray
with joy because of your partnership in
the gospel from the first day until now,
being confident of this, that he who
began a good work in you will carry it on
to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

24. Benediction
Most High God, majestic and almighty,
our beginning and our end:
rule in our hearts and guide us
to be faithful in our daily actions,
worshiping the one who comes
as Savior and Sovereign,
and who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God.
Amen.
