3.  GLAND SOURCE : Neuro-hypophysis
 TARGET : Uterine wall and breast area around
nipple to eject milk (there is no in known normal
function for oxytocin in known normal function
for oxytocin in males.
 ACTION : Cause strong uterine contractions
during birth.

4. CHEMICAL STRUCTURE
 Oxytocin is a polypeptide having 9 amino acids.
 It has half-life of about 6 minutes.

9. HYPER-SECRETION OF OXYTOCIN
 Increased heart rate.
 Decreased blood pressure.
 Nausea and Vomiting.
 Cardiac arrhythmia.

10. HYPO-SECRETION OF OXYTOCIN
 Labour may not come naturally.
 Have difficulty in breastfeeding.
 May not have same type of emotional
responses as others, with normal levels.

11. PROLACTIN
(LUTEOTROPIC HORMONE)

12.  GLAND SOURCE : Adenohypophysis
 TARGET : Primary target is mammary glands
(breasts).
 ACTION : Stimulate mammary glands to produce
milk in females ; in males it enhances the effect of
ICSH (LH).

13. CHEMICAL STRUCTURE
 A single chain polypeptide hormone.
 Having 199 amino acids.
 3 disulphide bridges.
 It has half-life of 20-30 minutes.

17. HYPO-SECRETION OF PROLACTIN
 Insignificant unless mother wishes to
breastfeed.

18. HYPER-SECRETION OF PROLACTIN
 In females : Menstrual irregularities, Infertility,
Weight gain.
 In males : Hypo-gonadism, decrease in ejaculate
volume.
