2. For many years cables ruled the world, but installation of
this causes great difficulty.
Mans continuous quest for even better technology led to
the Introduction of GI-FI.
As there is no recent development which transfers the data
faster. “This leads to introduction of GI-FI technology .“
Developed at “National Information And Communication
Technology Research Center” - MELBOURNE,AUSTRALIA.
INTRODUCTION TO GI-FI

4. WHY GI-FI ?
The reason for pushing into GI-FI technology is
because of :
Slow rate.
High power consumption.
Low range of frequency operations of earlier
technologies i.e., Bluetooth and WI-FI .

5. Comparison of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi with Gi-Fi
characteristic
s
Bluetooth Wi-Fi Gi-Fi
Frequency 24GHz 24GHz 60GHz
Range 10 meter 100meters 10meters
Primary application WPAN cable replacement WLAN Ethernet Embedded in
devices
Data transfer rate 800 Kbps 11Mbps 5Gigabps
Power consumption 5mw 10mw 2mw
Primary devices Mobile phones,PDAs,consumer electronics,office
and industrial devices
Notebooks, desktop
computer
Fax , Printer ,
Cellular phones
Primary uses Travelling employees,electronics consumers,office
ad industrial workers
corporate users Wireless Home & office
appliances ,etc.
Usage location Anywhere atleast two bluetooth device exist-ideal
for roaming outside buildings
Within range of WLAN
infrastructure,usually
inside a buildings
WPAN Networks
Specification Bluetooth S&G IEEE 802.11b,WBCA IEEE 802.15.3C

6. Disadvantages of Bluetooth & Wi-Fi
Bit rate : Bluetooth-800kbps
Wi-Fi -11mbps
Power consumption :
Bluetooth- 5mw
Wi-Fi-10mw
Lower frequency-2.4GHz.
So, to have higher
data transfer rate at lower
power consumption we switch
onto GI-FI technology
6
7. What Is GI-FI ?What Is GI-FI ?
World's First transceiver integrated on a single chip CMOS.
Operates - 60GHz.
Transfer of Audio &
Video data - 5Gigabs.
Ten times faster then the current
wireless transfer rate.
Technologies used-
MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output)
SOP (System-On-a-Package)
7
8. ARCHITECTURE OF GI-FI:
8
Core component is the Subscriber station available to
several access points .
Standard- IEEE 802.15.3C
This system often uses Small antenna at the subscriber
station.
This antenna supports Line of sight operation.
9. Working of Gi-Fi
Use of Time Division Duplex for both
transmission and receiving.
TRANSMITTING : Conversion of data from IF
range to RF 60Ghz range.
RECEIVING : The incoming RF signal is
converted to an IF signal and then to normal
data ranges.
Uses Heterodyne principle.
Data is transferred.
9
10. FEATURES OF GI-FI :
High speed of data transfer
Low power consumption
High security
Cost effective
Small size
Quick deployment
Highly portable
High-mobility.
10
15. NEXT TO GI-FI
Specifically, Wireless-HD has a
stated goal of enabling wireless
connectivity for streaming high-
definition content between source
devices and high-definition
displays.
15
16. CONCLUSION :
Within five years, we expect GI-
FI to be the dominant technology
for wireless networking.
Develops wire-less home and
office of future.
GI-FI potentially can bring
wireless broadband to the
enterprise in an entirely new way.
