1. How to Renew a Passport in New Jersey
Renew your passport in New Jersey in advance of an international trip to avoid having to obtain a new one at a United States Embassy abroad. Renew the passport by mail
without having to leave your home, or submit your materials in person at a local passport facility. Begin the renewal process no less than two to three weeks before planned
travel in order to give yourself enough time.
Step 1
Download and print Form DS-82 if you still have your old passport. If you've lost your old passport, download and print Form DS-11 to apply for a new passport. Fill out the form
completely and set aside.
Step 2
Have two passport-sized photos taken at your local pharmacy or photo studio. These photos are inexpensive and can often be printed while you wait.
Step 3
Obtain a certified copy of your birth certificate from your county of birth if you've lost your old passport -- this is needed to apply for a replacement passport, even though it is
technically a renewal. Make a photocopy of any government-issued ID.
Step 4
Write a check or money order for the fee that corresponds to your renewal or replacement, a list of which is available on the state department's website.
Step 5
Submit Form DS-11 and related documents at a passport processing facility. Mail Form DS-82 and materials to the following address: National Passport Processing Center,
Post Office Box 90155, Philadelphia,
