1. Wedding Gown Galavant
For most women, choosing a wedding dress is the most thrilling part of tying the knot.
However, a more casual bride may cringe at the prospect of wading through infinite white
gowns while family, bridesmaids, and saleswomen offer advice.
In an effort to reduce the stress associated with dress shopping, I began my own search online.
After some research, I located a reputable bridal site featuring a wide selection of dresses.
Scrolling through photo after photo, I soon settled on a satin gown priced at two hundred
dollars, plus shipping and alteration fees. Bookmarking the page, I entered the amount on my
budget sheet and turned to other tasks.

About one week later, I revisited the site to make my order, but found the dress had been
discontinued. Disappointed, I struggled to remain positive, but for several weeks I chose to
abandon my search. Passing a local bridal shop one afternoon, I decided to try again, feeling
this option may be slightly more reliable than the Internet.
Entering the shop, I forced a smile as a saleswoman immediately descended and began asking
questions. Following a brief description of style, I was led to a small rack in one corner with
only a handful of hanging dresses. The woman claimed none of the other styles could be
ordered in enough time for the proposed date. Returning to the rack, I selected two dresses to
try on, but the worst was yet to come.

The saleswoman tried to help with the excess fabric, but ended up spreading the gown sloppily
on the floor and instructing me to step into it. Being petite, this was no easy accomplishment,
and as I stumbled into the center, I found myself wondering if I was supposed to be trampling
the gorgeous satin. Then she tightened the bodice haphazardly with massive, dirty-looking
clamps which seemed unfit to touch the material. Despite this awkward scene, I found the
second dress attractive and inquired about the price, only to be told it was marked at fifteen
hundred dollars and alterations would be extra. Shocked and frustrated once again, I left even
more determined than when I entered to find the perfect gown.
The following day, I arrived at a tiny boutique and was greeted momentarily by a young
woman behind the desk. She pointed out the sales rack and informed me that any style could be
ordered in plenty of time for the wedding. Sifting through the racks, we pulled out several
gowns, which she swiftly slipped over my head and buttoned me into. With the young woman's
gentle guidance and genuine enthusiasm for her job, it wasn't long before I fell in love with a
strapless taffeta gown with a full skirt and sky blue embellishments. Standing on a small
platform before the mirrors, I had transformed into a beautiful princess in a fairy tale. Glancing

veil, the dress was the one! Immediately, I made arrangements for a deposit, relieved that my
"dress stress" had come to an end.
