Adobe® Captivate™ is a rapid content creation development tool that has quickly grown in use and popularity in the eLearning market. This powerful tool offers many productivity benefits to its users that allow for a rapidly-enriched learning experience. Some of the benefits of this SCORM- and AICC-compliant tool are its time-saving features that support great screen recording capabilities, branching functionality for added interactivity, it is easy to reskin/customize the interface using Flash, offers more flexibility in development than other rapid tools, integrates with Twitter and offers a reviewing tool where a user can post notes/comments on pages they are viewing for easy feedback dissemination to developers. Also, it offers localization support with XML export and import functionality; export captions to a text or XLIFF file to then import the translations into the original project file. How would this work for you? This webinar will show you how these features and benefits support interactive, effective and quicker-to-market online learning.

18. Shorter Development More efficient workflow between multiple products Alerted when source PPT is updated Audio editor improved Animation presets saves time
20. Shorter Development More efficient workflow between multiple products Alerted when source PPT is updated Audio editor improved Animation presets saves time Interface is similar to Flash/CS5 Fewer steps to get to where you need to go (dialog boxes)
28. Enhanced Flexibility Master slides More easily created and managed Master objects (like callouts, speech bubbles) styles can easily be defined Both of these features are an advantage over a traditional Flash shell.
30. Online Review Tools Adobe Captivate Reviewer Reviewer can make notes on actual course screens for developer Others can make comments to same note Users only need the free reviewer to use this feature
33. Interface Design Captivate shell is easier to reskin than Articulate Move buttons around If you have Flash knowledge you can import cool Flash widgets into Captivate. This opens up functionality and interaction
37. The Twitter Widget Increases social aspect User posts questions Lets learner know it's been answered Chain of messages and comments appears
38. The Twitter Widget How is this a benefit? The learner gets more out of the course because of the interactive component. It helps the learner stay engaged. The ability to interact with other students by posting questions and seeing other student’s questions.
42. Localization Easily exports on-screen text into an XML file for localization. Expanding text boxes in captivate is easier than Flash. Review tool allows linguists to comment easily.
44. Branching The path learners take through the course based on their responses to questions Captivate files can adapt themselves to react to a learner’s responses. For example: If they fail a quiz, brings them back to more info on that topic Retake that quiz later
46. Weighing the Benefits Articulate Captivate Interface similar to Adobe’s creative suite Open multiple files Better PPT roundtripping Track user scores without an LMS Quizzes inserted at once Better “apply to all” functionality than v4 Twitter Branching Drag and drop functionality PowerPoint interface No software simulation/screen capturing Branching is very limited and not user-friendly
47. Summary Captivate offers… Shorter course development cycle Customization features, including Branching Customizable interface Twitter Captivate and Articulate comparison

Julie,First, there is no need for custom Flash animations for software simulations.Erhan, can you tell us a little about that?
No need for custom Flash animations for simulations Julie: First let’s talk about this shorter development claim. For example, there isn’t a need for custom Flash animations for software simulations. Erhan, can you tell us a little more about that?
Some other features that help shorten the development cycle are:More efficient workflow between multiple products. For instance, Captivate 5 alerts you when the source PPT is updated so you know that the Captivate should be updated, too. This is PowerPoint roundtripping. Also, the audio editor is improved XXXXXXXXXXXX has buttons with reduced clicks to navigate between soundbooth and captivate. Example by Erhan
We’ve talked about the efficient workflow and seen the audio editor improvement.Erhan, can you tell us about how the animation presets work? What’s the value?
ErhanYou can code in custom animations, though.

Julie:So we’ve talked about shortening the development cycle. Let’s talk about Captivate’s enhanced flexibility.Captivate has long been known for it’s screen recording and branching capabilities. First, let’s talk about branching. Branching means that the path a learner takes through the program is determined by responses made to questions. It is an excellent method of individualizing learning materials. Branching may be made on the basis of correct answers to a question, wrong answers to a question, an option selected by the learner, or based on the learner's experience, job category, level, or any other category.Branching view so you can see all your slides at a glance. This for development so you know where your’e going and where everything is branching. Articulate can jump from slide to slide but much more difficult for the user to navigate.
Screen recording is likely what Captivate is known best for. It does a fantastic job of capturing clicks and movements so it’s a great tool for software simulation. Erhan, can you tell us a little more about it?
JulieMore enhanced flexibility tools also include predeveloped templates for quizmaking. Here is an example. Erhan, can you walk us through it?
Versus Articulate
JulieAdditionally, Captivate has improved it’s capacity to handle master slides and objects. Both of these features are an advantage over a traditional flash shell.

JulieOne of the ways you can captivate your audience is to make them think they are in a custom-developed course. One way is with the course shell. You can customize it with Flash elements. Let’s look at an example of how we have customized the Captivate shell for one of our clients.

JulieIncreases the social aspect of learningUser posts questions while taking the course. When answered, alert appears in Captivate window to let learner know it's been answered.Chain of messages and comments appears after logging into the course, too.

The ability to interact with other students by posting questions and seeing other student’s questions.Erhan, can you explain a bit more about the Twitter Widget in action?
Erhan
Julie:Custom animation filtering sounds pretty cool. Erhan I’m going to toss this over to you to talk about from the development perspective.
Erhan
Julie: One of our sweet spots is localization, so we’re pretty excited about how Captivate supports localization and translation. Localization means translating content into another language, but culturally and regionally adapting it to be appropriate for your audience. Idea here is that the captivate project is built, export text into XML, have it localized and reimport it into the xml.
Show an xml example of what gets exported. Option 1- view of XMLOption 2- 4 slide example of English Cap, xml export English, translated XML, reintegrated Cap
Julie: so we mentioned earlier that Captivate is a great branching tool. Branching is easier to implement in captivate rather than in action script. You can create question slides and specify different paths for right and wrong answers. This is the most straightforward method of adding branching. You can add click boxes and choose different paths if users click inside the click box or outside the click box. Click boxes have the same answer options as question slides, but can be incorporated into existing slides instead of requiring their own slide. You can add text entry boxes and create different branches if users enter the text correctly or incorrectly. Text entry boxes are very flexible and can be used in many creative ways. For example, they are an excellent way to simulate data entry in an application. You can add buttons and create different paths for when the user clicks the button or clicks outside the button. Buttons are a quick way to add branching and interactivity to your projects in a way that is comfortable for many users.
Here are some benefits of Captivate and benefits of Articulate.
