Experiments in lab studies have shown that animals will self-administer
MDMAâan important indicator of a drugâs abuse potentialâalthough to a
lesser degree than some other drugs such as cocaine (NIDA, 2016).

Any drug has the potential to become addictive. Ecstasy has been associated with a
potential for a high incidence of abuse and currently there is not any specific addiction
treatment programs designed for the treatment of Ecstasy addiction. A person
experiencing an addiction to Ecstasy would seek out general drug addiction therapy
programs.

Motivational Enhancement is a therapy technique that engages the patient with the therapist. The
therapist uses conversations and interviewing techniques to help the addict see how they are living in their
drug addiction versus how they wish to live.
This process evolves in stages :
⢠The pre contemplation stage where the addict does not realize the problem.
⢠The contemplation stage the addict realizes the problem and contemplates a change of behavior(Carl &
Ksir, 2015).

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy or CBT helps victims of addiction by helping them to realize what
things causes them to want to do drugs such as environments, people, emotional states of mind, and
provide ways to avoid and cope with these situations. The technical term for these situational events
or environments that cause an addict to want to use is called triggers.
13. CBT in research studies has proven very effective, however in community
environments results have varied. This has been contributed to therapist
effectiveness, variety of participants in the community and variable situations
and environments (Winerman, 2013).
