Ensuring Student Success in a Visual Arts Program
Session Abstract: The Visual Arts Center of Tidewater
Community College engages students from start to finish,
employing intrusive orientation by introducing expectations
early on for successful mastery of core course content,
promoting student engagement in Visual Arts events,
reinforcing the use of a universal critique form and
supporting visual literacy. Dynamic communication modes
used will be discussed including the TCC VAC Blackboard site,
the TCC VAC website, and strategically located electronic
boards. This presentation walks through the “steps to
success” as faculty present to you the “assessment story”,
useful orientation components, opportunities for student
engagement and returning full circle.
