This document discusses using nanowires to improve the efficiency of solar cells. Current solar cell technology faces problems with efficiency around 10-14% for silicon wafer cells. Nanowires can increase the surface area for light absorption and have great potential to enhance efficiency. A "solar tree" design is proposed that would use panels like leaves on a tower structure to generate renewable energy from the sun similar to how trees produce food through photosynthesis. The solar tree could power street lights, homes, industries, and save land while raising public support for renewable energy resources.
