4. Founder
The Ford Motor Company was founded in Dearborn,
Michigan, on June 16, 1903, by Henry Ford. Henry Ford
began his career as an engineer for the Edison
Illuminating Company in 1891. In 1983, Henry Ford was
promoted as the Chief Engineer. He had saved enough
money to venture out on his own and experiment with
gasoline engines. In 1896 he created the Quadricycle.
Henry Ford founded his businesss because he wanted to
build a car that anyone could afford to buy. The
affordable Model T led to the creation of an assembly
line that increased productivity for many other
businesses. Ford has impacted many people with
introduction of the assembly line and an affordable
vehicle. People are able to travel like never before.
5. Background
Henry Ford was born on July 30, 1863, in Greenfield Township, Michigan.
Henry Ford did not attend college. As a child he worked on the family farm. At the
age of 15 he would dismantle and reassemble a pocket watch his father had given
him.
Facts:
• By 1929 Ford was producing more than one car a minute through the use of the
assembly line.
• The Model T gas tank held 10 gallons.
• The top speed of the Model T was 40-45 miles per hour.
• In 1929, he had 81,000 men working in the Rouge Ford Factory.
• In 1918, President Woodrow Wilson convinced Ford to run for a seat on the
Senate as a Democrat. Ford sent a letter to Wilson saying, “If they want to elect
me let them do so, but I won't make a penny's investment." He didn’t spend any
money campaigning and still only lost by 4500 votes.
6. Explanation
I chose the Ford Motor Company because it has
impacted how our community functions since the early
1900. The assembly line concept that Henry Ford
created was adapted to many other companies and has
helped make everyday products available and affordable
for the masses. The Ford company is still relevant today.
My favoirte product is the Ford Focus, expecially the
Third Generation Vehicles. These are the vehicles made
between 2011-present. I like these cars because they
get excellent gas mileage and are eco friendly.
I currently drive a Jeep but most of my family members
drive a Ford vehicle of some type. Ford sold 2,493,918
vehicles in 2013.
