2. Like most albums and artists Rihanna
has her name on the cover letting
officiating that the album is by her.
Looking at the digipak audiences can
guess what her music genre is without
having have listened to her music first
hand. This is the way she styles herself
as an artist and wants to see others to
see her.
The main image is a full blown
picture of Rihanna, connotating that
she is of very high importance. Her
not looking at the camera gives the
sense of vulnerability. Her head
tilting down slightly implies that
she’s in deep thought. Her eyes
being closed my also represent a
secret she’s keeping, which people
would discover once they listened to
her album.
A narrative is played through the
digipak. Her body language and facial
expression imply a sense of fear and
fury.
There is no texts in this digipak; the images
speak for themselves. This album allows
the audience to make up their own minds
of whether or not to buy the album. No
persuasive language is used to manipulate
the audience into buying the album. The
images themselves are used to entice the
audience into buying the album, by telling
a story through imagery and position.
In Rihanna’s past digipaks she
doesn’t show off her hair as
much as she does in this one.
Her bold hair refers to the
albums name ‘LOUD’. This
digipak differs from her older
digipaks as she’s adapted a new
look, connotation a new
chapter in her life/music. Her
hair colour and fashion created
a worldwide trend that her fans
would adapt with their own
fashion choices.
Rihanna has closed eyes
connotating she has a
secret she could be
keeping and the audience
might discover what that
secret is if they listen to her
album.
A narrative is played through
this digipak. In the large image
of the artist her body language
and facial expression suggests a
sense of worry or anger. The
overall theme of this digipak is
love/lust, this may be because
of her over publicised lifestyle.
The roses surrounding her gives her a
sense of innocence when really when
and if the audience listen to her album
they would class it as inappropriate.
3. Reminiscent of an old circus poster.
Angle of her face is directed
down to connote
vulnerability.
The gold circus tent ‘Circus’,
however the colour gold could
perhaps represent the wealth
and success of the artist.
The material of the dress
silk/chiffon representing
femininity and
innocence which is a
symbolism of a ballerina.
The album name suggests the
album will be entertaining and
lively. However, a negative
connotation for ‘circus’ can
connotate her life being similar
to a circus show, an indication
that her life is public.
Reminiscent of an old circus poster.
The colour red has connotations of
both danger and sexual
undertones.
Light make-up around her face,
connotating ppurity and natural
beauty. However, the dark
make-up around her eyes
connotates something deeper
within herself.
Pale pink connotates femininity
and innocence.
The songs on the top of the CD connotate that they
are significant and will be highly rated.
The conventional poster colours are
being illustrated, connotating the
title ‘Circus’.
The birthday cake symbolises that the album is
a celebration and the re-birth of her music.
The clown reflects the title
‘Circus’.
The thick red border around
the image is like a frame,
symbolising that her album is
like a shot of her life.
Gold pillow and decorations
around the room coonotating
royalty and riches.
Britney’s alluring leg is seductive, perhaps
connotating the songs a slightly sexual.
The cowboy boots reflect her
southern American background
(Louisiana). This connotates
that her album has a bit of her
nationality embedded into it.
4. Track list written in a bright red colour to stand out but
contrast against the bubble gum pink clouds and the
pale blue sky. The writing colour is typical of the pop
genre and allows the house style to flow through
further.
It is typical of pop genre products to
have various images of the actual
artist to promote their work. Katy
Perry is also considered to a an
attractive female and therefore this
creates a wider fan base and makes
more people want to buy her album.
In addition the various images
connotate that by buying the album
the audience is buying into her
lifestyle.
The CD reflects the style of Katy Perry’s
California Girls video to promote her
single. The white and red swirls relate
to the lolly pop shown in the video,
showing intertextual reference.
The crown being warn
represents that she is the queen
of pop.
The image of her naked and covered in clouds widens
her fan base as it’s an attraction to males as well as
the music for the females.
Voyeurism is used on the front of the
digipak to attract buyers. They will
recognise the picture from the music
video. This will be used as the front
cover to increase sales of the digipak
album.
