President’s Message, Rieta Selberg
We had one of our largest attendances at our August Luncheon/Meeting to hear and visit with Senator
Mark Norris, the Senate Majority Leader. It is always a special time to have this highly respected
public servant and friend to be our speaker. I want to say “thank you” to Peggy Larkin who took over
for me at the August Luncheon and July Board Meeting while I was out of town.
It is hard to believe that summer is over and our children and grandchildren are already back in school. Summer went by
way too fast.
September is designated as the NFRW National Literacy Month. Kay Kelsey, our Literacy Chairman, has planned a
wonderful program for this month’s Luncheon/meeting to honor our teachers. We are delighted to have Mr. Greg
Thompson as our featured speaker. Mr. Thompson is with the Hyde Family Foundation where he oversees the
Foundations K-9 education portfolio. More information about the program from Kay is in this Newsletter.
I want to say thank you to all the ladies who attended the Area 9 convention. We all are so excited that Barbara
Trautman was elected as the next Area 9 Vice President and will serve on the TFRW Board 2010-2012 and will be
installed at the TFRW State Convention in October in Chattanooga. Barbara, we wish you the best. I do hope you are
making your plans to be at this convention to vote on the new TFRW officers and to be there to support Barbara as she is
being installed. Please let Anne Truett know if you are interested in being a delegate or alternate. It is always very
educational and a fun time to be with Republican ladies across the state. More info is in this newsletter.
The Nominating Committee will meet in September to nominate the 2010 RWOP Officers. If anyone would like to
suggest a nomination, please contact anyone on the nominating committee. The names of the nominating committee are
listed in this newsletter.

                               CONGRATULATIONS TO BARBARA TRAUTMAN
Barbara was unanimously elected at the Area 9 Convention held in July to be the new Area 9 Vice President for TFRW.
We are so excited about this and do know she will do an outstanding job keeping the clubs in her district informed.

Renew your Republican Party of Shelby County Membership!
New "MEMBER" Window stickers and t-shirts now available
Shelby County Republican Party has undergone some important changes in the past few months as part of a
coordinated plan to reinvigorate and revitalize membership efforts. Among other things, re-vamped the Committee
structure; re-tooled the ward/precinct organization; put greater emphasis on voter registration; and recently adopted a
new Mission and Platform Statement.
If you have not done so already, it is time to renew your membership for 2009. As part of the effort to build
awareness and reward Members, SCRP has recently commissioned a limited number of distinctive window decals that
are only available to committed, dues-paying members of the Party. Join today to get one and show your pride in being
a Republican in Shelby County.
For Contributing Level Members ($100 annual contribution), there is a new t-shirt available featuring the new
"Demand Accountability. Expect Results." theme that was adopted to complement the Mission and Platform Statement.
You can join the Republican Party of Shelby County online at www.ShelbyGOP.org/join or you can download

  • 2. President’s Message, Rieta Selberg We had one of our largest attendances at our August Luncheon/Meeting to hear and visit with Senator Mark Norris, the Senate Majority Leader. It is always a special time to have this highly respected public servant and friend to be our speaker. I want to say “thank you” to Peggy Larkin who took over for me at the August Luncheon and July Board Meeting while I was out of town. It is hard to believe that summer is over and our children and grandchildren are already back in school. Summer went by way too fast. September is designated as the NFRW National Literacy Month. Kay Kelsey, our Literacy Chairman, has planned a wonderful program for this month’s Luncheon/meeting to honor our teachers. We are delighted to have Mr. Greg Thompson as our featured speaker. Mr. Thompson is with the Hyde Family Foundation where he oversees the Foundations K-9 education portfolio. More information about the program from Kay is in this Newsletter. I want to say thank you to all the ladies who attended the Area 9 convention. We all are so excited that Barbara Trautman was elected as the next Area 9 Vice President and will serve on the TFRW Board 2010-2012 and will be installed at the TFRW State Convention in October in Chattanooga. Please let Anne Truett know if you are interested in being a delegate or alternate. It is always very educational and a fun time to be with Republican ladies across the state. New "MEMBER" Window stickers and t-shirts now available Shelby County Republican Party has undergone some important changes in the past few months as part of a coordinated plan to reinvigorate and revitalize membership efforts. Among other things, re-vamped the Committee structure; re-tooled the ward/precinct organization; put greater emphasis on voter registration; and recently adopted a new Mission and Platform Statement. If you have not done so already, it is time to renew your membership for 2009. As part of the effort to build awareness and reward Members, SCRP has recently commissioned a limited number of distinctive window decals that are only available to committed, dues-paying members of the Party. Join today to get one and show your pride in being a Republican in Shelby County. For Contributing Level Members ($100 annual contribution), there is a new t-shirt available featuring the new "Demand Accountability. Expect Results." theme that was adopted to complement the Mission and Platform Statement.
