it was tying your shoe or riding a bike, this principle
applied to most situations growing up. At university, it is
still very important to practise your skills regularly so that you
can do well in the referencing criteria of your assessment.
The following tips will help you master the art of
referencing books, journal articles and websites with
Harvard AGPS. Practise makes perfect!
Step 1: Collect
Firstly, collect all of the information you need to complete your
references. It is easier to do this as you research than leaving it
until the last minute to avoid missing important details.

Step 2: Order and format
The next step is to order your information. Remember
to double check that you have included punctuation in
the correct places and spelled everything right, as well
as whether you formatted your references using capital
letters, italics and quotation marks in the appropriate
places. Practise makes perfect!

Print

publisher, place of publication.
Online
Author, A. A. year of publication, book title,
publisher, place of publication, day month year
that you viewed the book, <URL>.
Journal articles
Print
Author, A. A. year of publication, ‘article title’,

However, there are many exceptions to these rules.
For example:

authors or no author

and many more.
For online books and journal articles,
also remember to collect the day,
month and year when you viewed
the information, and the URL.
