Semantic Seed Entrepreneurship Academy
How does the academy work?

The Semantic Seed Entrepreneurship Academy is a
week-long day camp for students who have completed
6-8 grades and are interested in entrepreneurship and
owning a business. The Institute holds two academies
each summer, in the Santa Cruz area. The camp runs
daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (early drop off and late
pick up are available for an additional fee).
Start Up Camp Youth Edition

The Semantic Seed Entrepreneurship Academy
introduces students to the concept of running a
business and what it takes to make a business
work. Through classroom exercises, field trips and
guest speakers, campers develop their own
business ideas and work on bringing their ideas to
the marketplace.
Youth Start Up Camp Overview
Participants learn the basics of starting and developing a business. In addition to completing a business
plan, business cards, a flyer and a PowerPoint presentation that they present to a panel of judges,
participants compete for seed capital cash prizes at the end of the week.

Camp participants
•Hear entrepreneurial start-up stories from nationally recognized entrepreneurs
•Learn the nuts and bolts of starting a business
•Network with other young Iowans interested in starting their own business
•Compete for SEED CAPITAL CASH PRIZES at the end of the week
•Receive recognition as a top young entrepreneur in Santa Cruz

                                                                2011 Start Up Competition
How much does the Semantic Seed Entrepreneurship Academy cost?

Through generous support from local bay area companies,
parents pay only $175 for a week—lunch, snacks,
materials, and T-shirt are included! Outside of Santa Cruz
participants may elect to drop their children off early (7:45
a.m.) and pick them up late (until 5:30 p.m.) for an
additional fee of $10 per day.
