The main reason for learning Tajweed is to protect the holy Qur'an and conserve its legacy from misrepresentation by maintaining the proper pronunciation of letters and words as the Arab tongue risked becoming corrupted with mixing of Arabs and non-Arabs. It became obligatory to recite the Qur'an correctly without errors by following the rules of Tajweed to preserve the integrity of pronunciation. The skill of Tajweed depends on knowledge of letter pronunciation points, letter features, rule changes due to context, and exercising the tongue through repetition.
