Essay My Thoughts on Writing
My Thoughts on Writing
The only thing I care about; the only thing I hope to get from this course, is some improvement in
my ability to write what I think –– explain ideas and feelings to other people. I don't give a damn
about anything else, and so far I haven't been disappointed. At the beginning of the course I was
informed that we were going to be discussing exposition, which isn't so much a kind of writing as a
purpose or attitude behind it. This purpose is to explore, unfold, or develop an idea or issue. And the
sense I've gotten from our discussion is that the attitude is one of intellectual honesty, of dedication
to learning something and reporting what's there , instead of protecting preconceived notions or
projecting agendas...show more content...
A friend of mine has already graduated from a university, and she recently went through a whole
crate of papers she wrote in the process. She told me she couldn't remember what many of them
were about; couldn't even remember writing most of them. We've talked about "themewriting"as
something written for and from a closed environment: a mini–universe apart from everyday life, with
its own abbreviated rules, in which oversimplification is acceptable. When I consider the sheer
tonnage of the stuff that's written every midquarter and finals week around here, it sure seems that
most of it is intended to, deserves to, and does head right for the wastebasket immediately when it's
of no further use in that universe: after it's recorded in the grade book. "Commitment" is a term
applied to solid exposition, and themewriting frequently lacks it.
Does anyone like to do this –– does it provide a warm, human, joyous feeling of having made
contact and saying something Important? Or do we just get comfortable doing it? Like being an
accountant: is there a real sense of joy to be found in adding up columns of figures? There may be
some people who would tell me "sure, it's fun," but I think actually they're just feeling safe in a sort
of half–sleep state which isn't exactly happy and may in fact be miserable, but at least is stable.
There may be a different kind of warmth, reserved for "a job well done," and "I might get a
promotion," and most especially: "I feel good

Essay about Suicide
Someone, somewhere, commits suicide every 18 minutes. You might never be able to tell who it
will be, it could be the person sitting right next . Statistics reveal that approximately three million
youths, between 12–18, have either thought about or attempted suicide in the past year. More than 1
/3, actually succeeded.
Only in the past two decades, have depression and suicide been taken seriously. Depression is an
illness that involves the body, mood and thoughts. Depression affects the way a person eats and
sleeps, feels about themselves, and the way they think of the things around them. It comes as no
surprise to discover that adolescent depression is strongly linked to teen suicide. Adolescent suicide
is now responsible for more deaths...show more content...
Adolescence is a stressful experience for all teens. It is a time of physical and social changes
producing rapid mood swings from sadness to elation. Even an emotionally healthy teenager may
have the constant fear of not being good enough, not making the varsity team, or getting good
grades. Special situations such as a parents divorce can trigger intense sadness and feelings of
wanting to die.
People who usually experience depression, can seem fine. But there are many key signs to show that
they are depressed. Such as, change in school performance, eating habits change, constant
unhappiness, low self esteem, guilt, social isolation, inability to concentrate, irritable or angered
easily, or has a severe lost of energy.
For a teen suffering from severe depression, has feelings of worthlessness that dominates their day.
Despair is ever present and emotional pain feels like it will never end. Any situation of anger or
disappointment may cause the teen to cross the line from wanting to die, to actually trying to kill
themselves.
Many of them feel pains inside of them, that they can't describe when someone asks them how they
feel. They just know that they are sad, or angry, or upset. Many teenagers will try to communicate
their pains through

My Favorite Quotes Of All Time
Mark Twain once said one of my favorite quotes of all time, "The two most important days in your
life are the day you were born, and the day you find out why." Perhaps this is a question I have
ask myself every since I read it about ten years ago. The day we know for sure what impact we
want to do in life is the day that our past experience as well as the once that we did not understood
become unambiguous. We can put our history with its experiences into a correct point of view,
perhaps as a training to get from point A to point B. We can obtain a clear perspective and shape
the road before us with particular objectives in mind. Such as training, education and alternatives
for where we are headed. This particular paper was so helpful to me in many ways. It opened and
cleared my thoughts; it gave me a fresh perspective.
Adaptability:
I have found myself often living one day at a time, in other words, as one may say, going day by day
or even going with the flow of things, which can be a good thing as well as a bad thing. However, in
my readings I have understood that "Adaptability" may not always be the right thing to do. For it
is a theme that waits patiently and unwearyingly for things to happen on there own. On the other
hand, this theme may be the reason I am still doing what I am doing, working with different kinds
of people. Perhaps, God only knew when He created me that in order to accomplish the task and
purpose He entrusted me I would need adaptability. God knew

I have learned many things throughout the course of the term, including such things as: how to write
an essay and how to improve on essays that I have already written, how to locate and composite
better research through the use of numerous resources found at the campus library, the internet, and
the "Common Sense" textbook, how to cite research, examples, and quotations properly within the
contents of my research paper as well as document it accurately according to MLA standards.
Through the exploration of the "Subjects and Strategies" textbook, I have learned nine different
methods used when writing an effective essay and how the different writing styles affect the overall
theme and tone of the essay when used properly. This past...show more content...
This allowed me to write more extensively on the topic I had chosen which in turn helped expand
the size of my research paper. I received a B on my final draft; the first passing grade I have ever
received on a research paper. I am very satisfied with my grade. When it came to the essays
writing became a little trickier because I had to understand what it was I needed to write about
and the style in which I need to write it in. There are nine essay writing methods which I learned
while attending this course: exemplification, compare/contrast, cause and effect, proposal,
narration, process, division/classification, definition, and argument. The only problems I
encountered when trying to write the essays that were assigned to me by the instructor was
finding suitable subject matter to write about. Once I found my topics for my essay, everything
else became easier. I would first produce a rough draft and then the students, the instructor, and
myself would go over them in class and decided if what I was writing was in its best form. Most
of my rough drafts needed improvement, but if it didn't it wouldn't be a rough draft, so it was
understood. My final drafts were very satisfying for me as well as the grades I received on them.
For my exemplification essay I chose to write about the reasons why condoms

Personal Essay: Care For Others
Care for others. The way this will help you achieve happiness is that when you help others it gives
you a warm feeling inside. It makes you feel as if you have done something right. This feeling is
almost unexplainable. Helping others is one of the best things you can do. For example, when you
complement someone the best feeling is when you see the look on that persons face and see how
happy you made them. Also, if you do not care for others you will live a lonely life. Without care for
others no one will want to be around you. So, if you care for others you will have a joyous life.
Listen to others. When listening to others, people learn how others feel. People will tell you about
their life, the good and bad times. It will help you grow as a person and learn how to be...show more

This will help you achieve happiness because if you do what you want you will never be let down.
You will feel like you have a purpose and that you were meant for something, as if it was calling you.
If you love what you do the there is no possible way to be sad or upset. Your life will be filled with
joy and love because every day you get to wake up and do something that truly makes you happy.
Stay in a joyous mood. If you are always in a good mood and spreading joy, there is no way to be
negative. You will always be looking on the bright side seeing how fortunate you are. This will
keep a smile on your face showing that you are truly happy. Also, help others around you to be in a
good mood. This will help you connect with others.
Learn to forgive quickly. This will make it where you are unable to hold a grudge. If you stay
mad at a person you might regret it because you never know the last day you will see them. You
are also just wasting valuable joyous time that you could be having with this person in your life.
Try to always be on good terms with people. Never go to bed angry and think on the positive side of
life. This will make your relationships

How to Write a Theme Analysis
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– How to Write a Theme Analysis Essay
(5–Paragraphs)
The theme is a recurring element throughout literature, movies, and art, which offers the reader
/viewer a deeper meaning, a deeper understanding about fundamental ideas in life, and a moral or
life lesson.
Essay writing
When writing about the theme, the writer should keep in mind that he/she will write an analysis
of a theme that appears in either a text or movie that argues a specific point. The writer's aim in
this type of essay is to pick a theme from a text or movie and write about what that theme does for
the story or what that theme makes the reader realize about that story and/or life itself. The best way

Follow the format/recipe for the FIRST BODY paragraph.
a) Pick one scene from the text or movie that shows how the theme relates to the aspect that you are
writing about (e.g. character, plot, setting, life, etc). Write no more than 2–3 sentences to summarize
this scene. For example, if you are applying the theme to a character, then pick one scene that strictly
connects the theme with this character.
b) Pick one brief quote from this scene that supports the direction of your essay. The quote from the
text or movie should show how this theme reveals the aspect that you are writing about.
c) Write 3–4 sentences that provide an analysis of the scene and quote. The analysis should include
an explication of this scene and quote, and it should tell what this scene and quote reveal about the

Over the past few months, I have learned several different writing techniques. While all of the
different types of papers were difficult to write, I believe that my writing skills have improved. In
fact, I did not understand all of the assignments, but I did try to do my best on all of them. While I
should have used more transitional words in between sentences and paragraphs, I feel that I learned
a great deal. It is true that I have not had very much writing experience and the writing process is
difficult for me. Sometimes, I do admit, it takes days to complete one assignment, but it will be
worth it when I am a proficient writer.
For example, the research paper was one of the most difficult assignments that I have ever written. I

I did not introduce the person effectively. For example, when quoting someone, one should write
something such: as Balko points out that, he is upset with insurance companies (Balko). This
example is in my own words and is an example of a paraphrase. I quoted people and then would not
write what I thought about the quote afterwards. When doing this in an essay, the teacher has no
way of knowing what the student is trying to convey. A proper quote should start with an
introduction. After the introduction, you have to say what the person has said, followed by what
you think about what they said. After doing this, a student should cite the author by using
parentheses. I did not know that a writer was supposed to do this. My first paper was very inadequate.
Additionally, I also cited sources and then forgot where I got the information. However, the use of
citing information and research was also one of my debilitating points. Nevertheless, I believe after
the reminders, corrections, and proofreading that needed pointing out to me, helped me improve in
this area.
Research in the library labs were very helpful and informative in spotting web sites that were
biased and did not have creditable information. Many people make web sites that are not credible
and it is always good to select scholarly sources when writing research papers for school. When one
researches a subject, you should always keep good records. I am a disorganized person, and lose

Essay on Writing Experience
My Writing Experiences My experiences in writing have been minimal. I have only learned the
basics of writing, like putting together sentences, forming paragraphs with sentences, and things
like that. Since I have been taking college English, I can tell my writing has improved a lot. In the
future, I hope to be able to improve tremendously at writing essays, paragraphs, research papers,
documents, and stories so that I have very little to no errors with drafting and final products. I
predict I will be a well rounded writer when I graduate from college. Writing in the past started in
kindergarten. My teacher taught me how to write my name over and over until I could write it with
no errors. All through elementary my teachers taught me...show more content...
I need to learn to quit thinking as much on what I want to write about and how to write about a topic
and just starting jotting stuff down in outline form as it comes to mind. Run–ons and fragments I
need to be able to spot and fix right away or I really need to not have any in my papers at all. My
goals are to write papers and not have to reassure myself that maybe I need to do more research or
have more data or even have to rethink my whole topic over. I would love to have the knowledge
to be a tutor someday and teach other people how to properly write papers, paragraphs, essays,
and maybe even books. To have excellent skills in writing will definitely be a great advantage in
my nursing profession. In nursing, I will have to do lots of charting on my patients. I will have to
do health presentations on various subjects such as exercising, how our society eats, and sex
education if I want to be a course instructor. Researching information on all of those topics I will
have to make sure I do an excellent job on and collect accurate information and statistics so that I
can compare to other sources. Dictating to the doctor means that I will need to write properly so
that he understands what I am saying. Other nurses will have to be able to understand what I am
talking about by my writing skills when doing shift changes. I will have to be very precise so that
other nurses will not

Metacognition Essay Example
Metacognition Essay I feel I have come a long way my tenth grade year. My writing has gotten so
much better and I can write essays of much better quality now. Things have gotten better like
punctuation, thesis, and analysis. To begin with, my punctuation has gotten a lot better. I made a lot
of errors during the beginning of the year and I am starting to make a lot less. Also, my thesis
statements have gotten tremendously better. At the beginning of the year they were really boring.
As the year began to progress, the statements got more interesting and creative. My analysis
throughout essays have gotten better. I am much better now at determining things like theme, tone,
and finding many literary devices. I can also set up my essays...show more content...
Another one of my major flaws is having the incorrect point of view. I need to make sure I go
over an essay a couple times because I normally add incorrect point of view the first time. During
the second semester, I had a favorite and least favorite project. My favorite was the song
presentation. It was something I really enjoyed because I love music and being able to do a
project on something I love is so much fun. I enjoyed it because I got to find literary devices,
establish tone and theme, and find parts in the song to back up my claims. I really enjoy finding
literary devices, whether it's in a song or poetry, and it is one of my favorite things to do in
English. I also liked finding the tone and theme. The theme is always fun to find because there
are normally so many possibilities and you get to try to find one that fits the best. The project
that I liked the least was the persuasive outline. I didn't have a problem with it as I was doing the
project, and I actually found it rather interesting, but I had to present it in front of the class.
Presenting things in front of the class is my least favorite thing to do. I enjoy most of the projects
up until the point where I step in front of the class. I think I have earned and A or a B this
semester. I know most of the material and I that feel I can use it appropriately. After all of the
essays and projects this year I feel that I have gained so much knowledge in English and I think

Examples Of Words Of Encouragement Essay
At some point in life, we may need a little push to wake us up, a little spark to brighten up our life
or maybe a little word of encouragement from the people around us to keep us going. It is normal
to feel sad or discourage towards life, but let me tell you, if the right word is said to the right person
at the right time, a big difference can be made in their life. Words are powerful. It can bring you
down and crush your souls; it can also uplift your whole wellbeing and give you hope towards
life. Right words are even more powerful. Right words not only can encourage you, it also can give

What do I get in return in saying the right words? Does being positive impact other people's life?
Does it bring a difference to the society if I say those right words to those who are in need of
encouragement? The answer is yes. There are many people that is in need of encouragement. Right
words or encouraging words can give people the external strength to move on and not give up.
Some people will go through life changing experience because of your encouragement. For example,
A may not be brave enough to take part in a competition although A is very talented. B, who knows
that A has the talent and potential, encourages A to enter the competition by saying the right words
to A. In the end A entered the competition and won. This life changing experience would not have
happened to A if B did not say the right words that encouraged A. Therefore, an encouragement can

Huswifery Essay
Among many of the Edwards poem I picked the poem called "Huswifery". This poem is very deeply
religious that will speak to levels of religious enthusiasm. In this poem he is expressing his deep
conviction and belief in god.
This poem contains many characteristics of Metaphysical poetry. The poet starts off by expounding
on how he might want God to be the ace spinner behind his "turning wheel" which connotes his
want for the Lord to assume control over his life and to utilize his life to advance the kingdom. The
use of the word turning wheel was an extremely compelling approach to convey his point, and it
demonstrates that he put profound idea into his decision to change.
Taylor at that point goes on clarify this thought by incorporating a large number of the parts of a
turning wheel into the similarity. The crowd of his pride is God, which is appeared by the way that
it is a letter to God. The event is by all accounts that he may have quite recently had a...show more

He also uses a very weird comparison between two things (conceits) like comparing spinning–wheel
to sanctification, weaving and fulling–mills to giving him a purpose of life, which makes this poem
a perfect example of Metaphysical poetry. Similarly, an irregular flow of the rhyme from first line to
the third, second to fourth, and fifth to sixth is another characteristics of metaphysical poetry. In
conclusion, Taylor's poetical structures are customary in their fundamental purposeful anecdote,
their unpredictability and progression are profoundly unique. His lines move to an unpleasant
rhythm; the verbs are solid, and the symbolism incredible. The excessive different method of
expression and the relationship of picture and thought planned by its strain to strike poetic flashes
makes this poem a perfect example of metaphysical

Saying Goodbye Essay
I never thought this day would come. I mean, I did know it was coming, but I just never thought
it would be this soon. Since birth, Lina has been my older sister, my companion, my confidant,
and moreover, my best friend. As years passed, I acknowledged that we were getting older, and
that the date of her departure was getting closer, yet, I did not want to believe it. Since last year,
she had been in the exhausting process of applying to universities, and by the end of May, the
University of New Orleans (UNO) granted her with a generous scholarship. With a smile full of
pride and amazement, she accepted the scholarship and reserved her space in the Psychology field
in the UNO. Overshadowed by the great news of her scholarship, we failed to...show more content...

three best friends approached her. They talked and laughed zealously; they joked as if they had

her. Her smile was genuine and her sight deep. Her voice was melodic while she recounted all the
anecdotes the four girls had shared for six long years. She moved her hands while she talked and
showed her perfectly white teeth while she laughed. There was no fear in her face, just a spark of
adventure glistened at the corner of her eyes. She was about to undertake a journey to the small
state of Louisiana, to the beautiful jazz city of New Orleans, and even at the verge of starting a
new life on her own, she showed no signs of anxiety or uneasiness. There were so many reasons
why not to cry: she was happy, she was young, she had a great opportunity to study abroad,
something not everyone has, and many more that would take me a whole day to mention.
However, I only needed one reason why to cry: I would no longer have her by my side. As a
tremendous storm, an urge of crying overwhelmed me, and all I could do was to sit down, hide my
face in my hands and let my emotions overpower me. She looked at me and frowned. I knew it hurt
her to see me that way, but I couldn't stop. She came near me and hugged me, without saying a word.

Redemption Essay
The literal definition of the word "redemption" is the act, process, or an instance of redeeming
(forgiven). When I as a human being think of redemption I think of it as a way to accept, forgive
and move on after an instance of extreme, usually emotional, infliction. When we think of this in
terms of prison, humans are put into isolation where they are given ample time to logically think
of these trespasses and how they are paying for it with their lives. At the same time these people
are doing very manual labor while getting 'paid' very little in order to redeem themselves to
hopefully regain some rank again in society. In life where most of us live outside walls redemption
comes in many different forms, although not all as painful....show more content...
When I myself am witness to acts of injustice my first reaction is usually anger, frustration which
is then followed by a very vocal complaint. The same reactions come about when I myself am put
under circumstances of injustice and I can only hope, but am not certain, that this is something
regularly occurs with humans in general. I would have to say that some of the factors that
contribute to the ways that I respond to injustice would be feelings that had occurred as a child
when put into unjust situations as well as knowledge that I was given while growing up in both
educational institutions as well as living in general. While I watched the movie Shawshank
Redemption I witness an idea developed mainly by Stephen King that basically gave me hope by
helping me see that due to what I call karma, the people that are exaggerating unjust behavior will
eventually get what is coming to them. This is displayed well by the showing of all the ignorant
behavior put on by the warden and what happened to him in the end. In our society taking away a
persons freedom is considered justice because at this point these people do not have a choice. The
choices that they have made so far have only gotten them into trouble, now they have given that up
and are subjected to be treated basically like a slave. Solitary confinement is considered the most
severe punishment that we can inflict in our justice system as

Essay on Effective Listening
Effective Listening
The ability to listen well is an important tool for understanding others. Sadly, very few people know
how to listen well. In fact, most people can think of only one or two good listeners in their lives.
Listening is not simply agreeing – it is much more. Good listeners are able to better understand and
respond to others, complete assignments accurately, settle disagreements before they escalate, and
establish rapport with difficult people.
Listening is often confused with hearing. This serious misconception can lead us to believe that good
listening is instinctive. In fact, good listening is an active, sophisticated process – a learned behavior
– that demands focus and attention. Listening takes place on...show more content...
Content listening can lead to serious misunderstandings and is especially deceptive because it
appears the listener is tuned in.
Superficial Listeners
Superficial listeners are often judging, daydreaming, or rehersing their response this is essentially
hearing, not listening. The listener is tuning in and out thinking little of the talker, and mainly
listening for a chance to jump in and take over the conversation. People who listen at this level are
pretending to listen and are often quiet and passive.
To achieve deep listening, the listener must take on certain responsibilities to help the talker and to
ensure that there is agreement about the interpretation and intent of a message. Specifically, the
listener must focus on the talker and pay close attention to what is being said. Strive to understand
the meaning of the message and respond accordingly. Keep in mind that the response lets the talker
know whether or not the message is getting through and allows him or her to adjust the message
accordingly.
Listener Responsibilities
Determine the talker's needs during the interaction. At the beginning of a conversation, the talker
may be tentative and not say what he or she means. Whether he or she continues often depends on
the listener's initial response. Stay neutral and try to listen objectively. Direct, clear communication
rarely occurs when information flows one way. Listening blocks are obstacles that interfere with our
listening they

Descriptive Essay About My Homeland
"A man without a homeland will have no grave on Earth. And he forbade me to leave." I believe a
homeland is a place that we can identify with and have a special connection or it could be a place
you have spent a majority of your time. For example, you live in New York your whole life but
were born in California, you're more likely to call New York your homeland since it is a place
you're comfortable and familiar with. This does conclude that just because you are born somewhere
that does not make it automatically your homeland, it's up to that person themself to find that
connection with the place they can call their homeland. This quote made me think about about my
homeland and where I consider my homeland. I was born in Staten Island, New York and I can easily
say this place is my homeland. The people here, the culture, and the environment are all things in
Staten Island that I have been accustomed to from growing up and developing here as a man. Your
homeland doesn't define you as a person, but those tendencies from that homeland will always be
in you. However, that doesn't mean I wouldn't be able to identify with anyone else that's not from
Staten Island. This made me think about what it means to be American in the United States. This
is a bit different because being a Staten Islander, i'm still able to identify with people from other
states. Therefore, I should try and define what it truly means to be an American. While thinking
this over I came up with four meaningful things, that comes to my mind about living in the land
of the free. Firstly, an American to me is anyone that can see the best things in life come with
risks. This means Americans are gamblers in a good way, in order to get to the top you have to be
willing to take the losses along the way and the bumps in the road, if you will. Next, Americans in
the worst of times aren't timid and they don't fold, they look to hope to try and bring us through the
tough times. This can be exemplified as Americans not being quitters when things get bad we don't
hide, we fight even harder and use hope to get us over the hump. Another quality of being an
American, is their ability to use their own brain and god given gifts to conquer anything they put

Examples Of Integrating Quotes
Integrating quotations is when a writer places a quote п»їп»їinto

integrate quotations into our work. Integrating quotes allows readers to see credibility in our
writing. Dropping quotes without a warning, starting or ending a paragraph with a quote and
giving little information, or even giving too much information, are all examples of how integrating
quotes is done incorrectly. However, there are several ways to fix these mistakes. One way is to
signal the quote is coming, allowing the reader to be looking out for it. Another way to fix it is to
give guidance to the reader, tell them what you think about the quote and why you put it there,
creating a link between the two. Just as you create

"With great power comes great responsibility"– Uncle Ben in Spider–Man. That phrase is often
quoted to people who receive power as a warning that power can be used for good thing, but can
also be used for bad things. Power has a negative effect on leaders because it makes them arrogant
and lose trust in others. Leaders who have power lose trust in others because power makes them
suspicious of others. One example is from the play Antigone by Sophocles. When King Creon of

Making a Positive Change in My Community
We all have something close to our heart that could make a positive change in our community and
possibly even our earth. I could make a positive change in my community by raising money through
fundraisers to buy new, unused, cotton clothing (shoes, shirts, shorts), and by donating these needed
clothing items to underprivileged children. Due to my many hours of work in the community soup
kitchen it was brought to my attention that there is a need for more than food, there is a necessitate
for clothing. I would hope to make sure no child goes unclothed. Namely I would do this because I
feel that clothing is not a luxury but a necessity. When I disinterred that some children in poor
countries and communities do not posse basic needs such as clothing, I was heart broken. This
problem needs to be solved and I believe that this project/plan could, solve this dilemma or at least
begin to resolve it. This obstacle is larger than most people realize because in our area clothing is
taken as a luxury that everyone owns; but unlike previously thought it has been brought to my
attention that many areas do not have access to this "luxury," and I do not believe that is right so
if I was able to find a way to mend this issue, I would be willing. No human being should go
without a clean pair of clothes, and I have a daring plan to fix that. If I were to implement this plan
I am determined to start by brainstorming ideas for a good fundraiser for example a lemonade stand,

lives that we fall into depression. We feel that everything in life is falling apart. You regret the
choices you've made in the past and feel that you have failed in life. Understand that you cannot go
back in time and undo choices you've made but that you can stop yourself from repeating the past by
making smarter decisions so that you can have a better future.
Reaction: Yes, our life is full of up and downs. We also cannot change the past, but we can make
better things or choices...show more content...
If we try new things we're going to make a few mistakes but we are learning from that mistake. If
you don't make any mistakes, you're in a rut and not trying anything new. Mistakes are part of our
lives, we cannot change it, and we just have to take the risk. Nothing is impossible if we try new
things and nothing will lose if you try right.
4."The heart has its reasons which reason knows not." –Blaise Pascal
Explanation: The heart, the organ capable of storing love can also reason. Its reasoning makes all
the sense in the world to the heart and to the heart's owner when the owner first hears it. It's the
reasoning that makes you fall in love at first sight. It's the reasoning that somehow makes it so hard
to let somebody go even though you have no logical reason to want that person to stay.
Reaction: The quote means that you have to listen to your heart. Just like in love, you just only
knew that you love that person but you don't know why. We fall in love in a mutual weirdness and
called it love.
5."When love is not madness it is not love." –Pedro CalderГіn de la Barca
Explanation: The actual quote is when love is not madness, it is not love, and it is by Pedro
Calderon. Love in its self is madness. Love brings to life so many different emotions that it is like a
chaos in your

My Thoughts on Writing and Care for Others

  • 1. Essay My Thoughts on Writing My Thoughts on Writing The only thing I care about; the only thing I hope to get from this course, is some improvement in my ability to write what I think –– explain ideas and feelings to other people. I don't give a damn about anything else, and so far I haven't been disappointed. At the beginning of the course I was informed that we were going to be discussing exposition, which isn't so much a kind of writing as a purpose or attitude behind it. This purpose is to explore, unfold, or develop an idea or issue. And the sense I've gotten from our discussion is that the attitude is one of intellectual honesty, of dedication to learning something and reporting what's there , instead of protecting preconceived notions or projecting agendas...show more content... A friend of mine has already graduated from a university, and she recently went through a whole crate of papers she wrote in the process. She told me she couldn't remember what many of them were about; couldn't even remember writing most of them. We've talked about "themewriting"as something written for and from a closed environment: a mini–universe apart from everyday life, with its own abbreviated rules, in which oversimplification is acceptable. When I consider the sheer tonnage of the stuff that's written every midquarter and finals week around here, it sure seems that most of it is intended to, deserves to, and does head right for the wastebasket immediately when it's of no further use in that universe: after it's recorded in the grade book. "Commitment" is a term applied to solid exposition, and themewriting frequently lacks it. Does anyone like to do this –– does it provide a warm, human, joyous feeling of having made contact and saying something Important? Or do we just get comfortable doing it? Like being an accountant: is there a real sense of joy to be found in adding up columns of figures? There may be some people who would tell me "sure, it's fun," but I think actually they're just feeling safe in a sort of half–sleep state which isn't exactly happy and may in fact be miserable, but at least is stable. There may be a different kind of warmth, reserved for "a job well done," and "I might get a promotion," and most especially: "I feel good Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay about Suicide Someone, somewhere, commits suicide every 18 minutes. You might never be able to tell who it will be, it could be the person sitting right next . Statistics reveal that approximately three million youths, between 12–18, have either thought about or attempted suicide in the past year. More than 1 /3, actually succeeded. Only in the past two decades, have depression and suicide been taken seriously. Depression is an illness that involves the body, mood and thoughts. Depression affects the way a person eats and sleeps, feels about themselves, and the way they think of the things around them. It comes as no surprise to discover that adolescent depression is strongly linked to teen suicide. Adolescent suicide is now responsible for more deaths...show more content... Adolescence is a stressful experience for all teens. It is a time of physical and social changes producing rapid mood swings from sadness to elation. Even an emotionally healthy teenager may have the constant fear of not being good enough, not making the varsity team, or getting good grades. Special situations such as a parents divorce can trigger intense sadness and feelings of wanting to die. People who usually experience depression, can seem fine. But there are many key signs to show that they are depressed. Such as, change in school performance, eating habits change, constant unhappiness, low self esteem, guilt, social isolation, inability to concentrate, irritable or angered easily, or has a severe lost of energy. For a teen suffering from severe depression, has feelings of worthlessness that dominates their day. Despair is ever present and emotional pain feels like it will never end. Any situation of anger or disappointment may cause the teen to cross the line from wanting to die, to actually trying to kill themselves. Many of them feel pains inside of them, that they can't describe when someone asks them how they feel. They just know that they are sad, or angry, or upset. Many teenagers will try to communicate their pains through Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. My Favorite Quotes Of All Time Mark Twain once said one of my favorite quotes of all time, "The two most important days in your life are the day you were born, and the day you find out why." Perhaps this is a question I have ask myself every since I read it about ten years ago. The day we know for sure what impact we want to do in life is the day that our past experience as well as the once that we did not understood become unambiguous. We can put our history with its experiences into a correct point of view, perhaps as a training to get from point A to point B. We can obtain a clear perspective and shape the road before us with particular objectives in mind. Such as training, education and alternatives for where we are headed. This particular paper was so helpful to me in many ways. It opened and cleared my thoughts; it gave me a fresh perspective. Adaptability: I have found myself often living one day at a time, in other words, as one may say, going day by day or even going with the flow of things, which can be a good thing as well as a bad thing. However, in my readings I have understood that "Adaptability" may not always be the right thing to do. For it is a theme that waits patiently and unwearyingly for things to happen on there own. On the other hand, this theme may be the reason I am still doing what I am doing, working with different kinds of people. Perhaps, God only knew when He created me that in order to accomplish the task and purpose He entrusted me I would need adaptability. God knew Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. I have learned many things throughout the course of the term, including such things as: how to write an essay and how to improve on essays that I have already written, how to locate and composite better research through the use of numerous resources found at the campus library, the internet, and the "Common Sense" textbook, how to cite research, examples, and quotations properly within the contents of my research paper as well as document it accurately according to MLA standards. Through the exploration of the "Subjects and Strategies" textbook, I have learned nine different methods used when writing an effective essay and how the different writing styles affect the overall theme and tone of the essay when used properly. This past...show more content... This allowed me to write more extensively on the topic I had chosen which in turn helped expand the size of my research paper. I received a B on my final draft; the first passing grade I have ever received on a research paper. I am very satisfied with my grade. When it came to the essays writing became a little trickier because I had to understand what it was I needed to write about and the style in which I need to write it in. There are nine essay writing methods which I learned while attending this course: exemplification, compare/contrast, cause and effect, proposal, narration, process, division/classification, definition, and argument. The only problems I encountered when trying to write the essays that were assigned to me by the instructor was finding suitable subject matter to write about. Once I found my topics for my essay, everything else became easier. I would first produce a rough draft and then the students, the instructor, and myself would go over them in class and decided if what I was writing was in its best form. Most of my rough drafts needed improvement, but if it didn't it wouldn't be a rough draft, so it was understood. My final drafts were very satisfying for me as well as the grades I received on them. For my exemplification essay I chose to write about the reasons why condoms Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Personal Essay: Care For Others Care for others. The way this will help you achieve happiness is that when you help others it gives you a warm feeling inside. It makes you feel as if you have done something right. This feeling is almost unexplainable. Helping others is one of the best things you can do. For example, when you complement someone the best feeling is when you see the look on that persons face and see how happy you made them. Also, if you do not care for others you will live a lonely life. Without care for others no one will want to be around you. So, if you care for others you will have a joyous life. Listen to others. When listening to others, people learn how others feel. People will tell you about their life, the good and bad times. It will help you grow as a person and learn how to be...show more content... This will help you achieve happiness because if you do what you want you will never be let down. You will feel like you have a purpose and that you were meant for something, as if it was calling you. If you love what you do the there is no possible way to be sad or upset. Your life will be filled with joy and love because every day you get to wake up and do something that truly makes you happy. Stay in a joyous mood. If you are always in a good mood and spreading joy, there is no way to be negative. You will always be looking on the bright side seeing how fortunate you are. This will keep a smile on your face showing that you are truly happy. Also, help others around you to be in a good mood. This will help you connect with others. Learn to forgive quickly. This will make it where you are unable to hold a grudge. If you stay mad at a person you might regret it because you never know the last day you will see them. How to Write a Theme Analysis ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– How to Write a Theme Analysis Essay (5–Paragraphs) The theme is a recurring element throughout literature, movies, and art, which offers the reader /viewer a deeper meaning, a deeper understanding about fundamental ideas in life, and a moral or life lesson. Essay writing When writing about the theme, the writer should keep in mind that he/she will write an analysis of a theme that appears in either a text or movie that argues a specific point. The writer's aim in this type of essay is to pick a theme from a text or movie and write about what that theme does for the story or what that theme makes the reader realize about that story and/or life itself. For example, if you are applying the theme to a character, then pick one scene that strictly connects the theme with this character. b) Pick one brief quote from this scene that supports the direction of your essay. • 7. Over the past few months, I have learned several different writing techniques. While all of the different types of papers were difficult to write, I believe that my writing skills have improved. In fact, I did not understand all of the assignments, but I did try to do my best on all of them. While I should have used more transitional words in between sentences and paragraphs, I feel that I learned a great deal. It is true that I have not had very much writing experience and the writing process is difficult for me. Sometimes, I do admit, it takes days to complete one assignment, but it will be worth it when I am a proficient writer. For example, the research paper was one of the most difficult assignments that I have ever written. I did...show more content... I did not introduce the person effectively. For example, when quoting someone, one should write something such: as Balko points out that, he is upset with insurance companies (Balko). This example is in my own words and is an example of a paraphrase. I quoted people and then would not write what I thought about the quote afterwards. When doing this in an essay, the teacher has no way of knowing what the student is trying to convey. A proper quote should start with an introduction. After the introduction, you have to say what the person has said, followed by what you think about what they said. After doing this, a student should cite the author by using parentheses. I did not know that a writer was supposed to do this. My first paper was very inadequate. Additionally, I also cited sources and then forgot where I got the information. However, the use of citing information and research was also one of my debilitating points. Nevertheless, I believe after the reminders, corrections, and proofreading that needed pointing out to me, helped me improve in this area. Research in the library labs were very helpful and informative in spotting web sites that were biased and did not have creditable information. Many people make web sites that are not credible and it is always good to select scholarly sources when writing research papers for school. When one researches a subject, you should always keep good records. I am a disorganized person, and lose Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Essay on Writing Experience My Writing Experiences My experiences in writing have been minimal. I have only learned the basics of writing, like putting together sentences, forming paragraphs with sentences, and things like that. Since I have been taking college English, I can tell my writing has improved a lot. In the future, I hope to be able to improve tremendously at writing essays, paragraphs, research papers, documents, and stories so that I have very little to no errors with drafting and final products. I predict I will be a well rounded writer when I graduate from college. Writing in the past started in kindergarten. My teacher taught me how to write my name over and over until I could write it with no errors. All through elementary my teachers taught me...show more content... I need to learn to quit thinking as much on what I want to write about and how to write about a topic and just starting jotting stuff down in outline form as it comes to mind. Run–ons and fragments I need to be able to spot and fix right away or I really need to not have any in my papers at all. My goals are to write papers and not have to reassure myself that maybe I need to do more research or have more data or even have to rethink my whole topic over. I would love to have the knowledge to be a tutor someday and teach other people how to properly write papers, paragraphs, essays, and maybe even books. To have excellent skills in writing will definitely be a great advantage in my nursing profession. In nursing, I will have to do lots of charting on my patients. I will have to do health presentations on various subjects such as exercising, how our society eats, and sex education if I want to be a course instructor. Researching information on all of those topics I will have to make sure I do an excellent job on and collect accurate information and statistics so that I can compare to other sources. • 9. Metacognition Essay Example Metacognition Essay I feel I have come a long way my tenth grade year. My writing has gotten so much better and I can write essays of much better quality now. Things have gotten better like punctuation, thesis, and analysis. To begin with, my punctuation has gotten a lot better. I made a lot of errors during the beginning of the year and I am starting to make a lot less. Also, my thesis statements have gotten tremendously better. At the beginning of the year they were really boring. As the year began to progress, the statements got more interesting and creative. My analysis throughout essays have gotten better. I am much better now at determining things like theme, tone, and finding many literary devices. I can also set up my essays...show more content... Another one of my major flaws is having the incorrect point of view. I need to make sure I go over an essay a couple times because I normally add incorrect point of view the first time. During the second semester, I had a favorite and least favorite project. My favorite was the song presentation. It was something I really enjoyed because I love music and being able to do a project on something I love is so much fun. I enjoyed it because I got to find literary devices, establish tone and theme, and find parts in the song to back up my claims. I really enjoy finding literary devices, whether it's in a song or poetry, and it is one of my favorite things to do in English. I also liked finding the tone and theme. The theme is always fun to find because there are normally so many possibilities and you get to try to find one that fits the best. The project that I liked the least was the persuasive outline. I didn't have a problem with it as I was doing the project, and I actually found it rather interesting, but I had to present it in front of the class. Presenting things in front of the class is my least favorite thing to do. I enjoy most of the projects up until the point where I step in front of the class. I think I have earned and A or a B this semester. I know most of the material and I that feel I can use it appropriately. After all of the essays and projects this year I feel that I have gained so much knowledge in English and I think Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Examples Of Words Of Encouragement Essay At some point in life, we may need a little push to wake us up, a little spark to brighten up our life or maybe a little word of encouragement from the people around us to keep us going. It is normal to feel sad or discourage towards life, but let me tell you, if the right word is said to the right person at the right time, a big difference can be made in their life. Words are powerful. It can bring you down and crush your souls; it can also uplift your whole wellbeing and give you hope towards life. Right words are even more powerful. Does it bring a difference to the society if I say those right words to those who are in need of encouragement? The answer is yes. There are many people that is in need of encouragement. Right words or encouraging words can give people the external strength to move on and not give up. Some people will go through life changing experience because of your encouragement. For example, A may not be brave enough to take part in a competition although A is very talented. B, who knows that A has the talent and potential, encourages A to enter the competition by saying the right words to A. In the end A entered the competition and won. This life changing experience would not have happened to A if B did not say the right words that encouraged A. In this poem he is expressing his deep conviction and belief in god. This poem contains many characteristics of Metaphysical poetry. The poet starts off by expounding on how he might want God to be the ace spinner behind his "turning wheel" which connotes his want for the Lord to assume control over his life and to utilize his life to advance the kingdom. The use of the word turning wheel was an extremely compelling approach to convey his point, and it demonstrates that he put profound idea into his decision to change. Taylor at that point goes on clarify this thought by incorporating a large number of the parts of a turning wheel into the similarity. The crowd of his pride is God, which is appeared by the way that it is a letter to God. The event is by all accounts that he may have quite recently had a...show more content... He also uses a very weird comparison between two things (conceits) like comparing spinning–wheel to sanctification, weaving and fulling–mills to giving him a purpose of life, which makes this poem a perfect example of Metaphysical poetry. Similarly, an irregular flow of the rhyme from first line to the third, second to fourth, and fifth to sixth is another characteristics of metaphysical poetry. In conclusion, Taylor's poetical structures are customary in their fundamental purposeful anecdote, their unpredictability and progression are profoundly unique. His lines move to an unpleasant rhythm; the verbs are solid, and the symbolism incredible. The excessive different method of expression and the relationship of picture and thought planned by its strain to strike poetic flashes makes this poem a perfect example of metaphysical Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Saying Goodbye Essay I never thought this day would come. I mean, I did know it was coming, but I just never thought it would be this soon. Since birth, Lina has been my older sister, my companion, my confidant, and moreover, my best friend. As years passed, I acknowledged that we were getting older, and that the date of her departure was getting closer, yet, I did not want to believe it. Since last year, she had been in the exhausting process of applying to universities, and by the end of May, the University of New Orleans (UNO) granted her with a generous scholarship. With a smile full of pride and amazement, she accepted the scholarship and reserved her space in the Psychology field in the UNO. Overshadowed by the great news of her scholarship, we failed to...show more content... Suddenly, she stood up and a warm smile lightened her face. Her eyes shone with excitement as her three best friends approached her. They talked and laughed zealously; they joked as if they had forgotten what was about to happen in less than an hour. I could not help myself from watching her. Her smile was genuine and her sight deep. Her voice was melodic while she recounted all the anecdotes the four girls had shared for six long years. She moved her hands while she talked and showed her perfectly white teeth while she laughed. There was no fear in her face, just a spark of adventure glistened at the corner of her eyes. She was about to undertake a journey to the small state of Louisiana, to the beautiful jazz city of New Orleans, and even at the verge of starting a new life on her own, she showed no signs of anxiety or uneasiness. There were so many reasons why not to cry: she was happy, she was young, she had a great opportunity to study abroad, something not everyone has, and many more that would take me a whole day to mention. However, I only needed one reason why to cry: I would no longer have her by my side. As a tremendous storm, an urge of crying overwhelmed me, and all I could do was to sit down, hide my face in my hands and let my emotions overpower me. She looked at me and frowned. I knew it hurt her to see me that way, but I couldn't stop. She came near me and hugged me, without saying a word. What Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Redemption Essay The literal definition of the word "redemption" is the act, process, or an instance of redeeming (forgiven). When I as a human being think of redemption I think of it as a way to accept, forgive and move on after an instance of extreme, usually emotional, infliction. When we think of this in terms of prison, humans are put into isolation where they are given ample time to logically think of these trespasses and how they are paying for it with their lives. At the same time these people are doing very manual labor while getting 'paid' very little in order to redeem themselves to hopefully regain some rank again in society. In life where most of us live outside walls redemption comes in many different forms, although not all as painful....show more content... When I myself am witness to acts of injustice my first reaction is usually anger, frustration which is then followed by a very vocal complaint. The same reactions come about when I myself am put under circumstances of injustice and I can only hope, but am not certain, that this is something regularly occurs with humans in general. I would have to say that some of the factors that contribute to the ways that I respond to injustice would be feelings that had occurred as a child when put into unjust situations as well as knowledge that I was given while growing up in both educational institutions as well as living in general. While I watched the movie Shawshank Redemption I witness an idea developed mainly by Stephen King that basically gave me hope by helping me see that due to what I call karma, the people that are exaggerating unjust behavior will eventually get what is coming to them. This is displayed well by the showing of all the ignorant behavior put on by the warden and what happened to him in the end. In our society taking away a persons freedom is considered justice because at this point these people do not have a choice. The choices that they have made so far have only gotten them into trouble, now they have given that up and are subjected to be treated basically like a slave. Solitary confinement is considered the most severe punishment that we can inflict in our justice system as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Essay on Effective Listening Effective Listening The ability to listen well is an important tool for understanding others. Sadly, very few people know how to listen well. In fact, most people can think of only one or two good listeners in their lives. Listening is not simply agreeing – it is much more. Good listeners are able to better understand and respond to others, complete assignments accurately, settle disagreements before they escalate, and establish rapport with difficult people. Listening is often confused with hearing. This serious misconception can lead us to believe that good listening is instinctive. In fact, good listening is an active, sophisticated process – a learned behavior – that demands focus and attention. Listening takes place on...show more content... Content listening can lead to serious misunderstandings and is especially deceptive because it appears the listener is tuned in. Superficial Listeners Superficial listeners are often judging, daydreaming, or rehersing their response this is essentially hearing, not listening. The listener is tuning in and out thinking little of the talker, and mainly listening for a chance to jump in and take over the conversation. People who listen at this level are pretending to listen and are often quiet and passive. To achieve deep listening, the listener must take on certain responsibilities to help the talker and to ensure that there is agreement about the interpretation and intent of a message. Specifically, the listener must focus on the talker and pay close attention to what is being said. Strive to understand the meaning of the message and respond accordingly. Keep in mind that the response lets the talker know whether or not the message is getting through and allows him or her to adjust the message accordingly. Listener Responsibilities Determine the talker's needs during the interaction. At the beginning of a conversation, the talker may be tentative and not say what he or she means. Whether he or she continues often depends on the listener's initial response. Stay neutral and try to listen objectively. Direct, clear communication rarely occurs when information flows one way. Listening blocks are obstacles that interfere with our listening they Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Descriptive Essay About My Homeland "A man without a homeland will have no grave on Earth. And he forbade me to leave." I believe a homeland is a place that we can identify with and have a special connection or it could be a place you have spent a majority of your time. For example, you live in New York your whole life but were born in California, you're more likely to call New York your homeland since it is a place you're comfortable and familiar with. This does conclude that just because you are born somewhere that does not make it automatically your homeland, it's up to that person themself to find that connection with the place they can call their homeland. This quote made me think about about my homeland and where I consider my homeland. I was born in Staten Island, New York and I can easily say this place is my homeland. The people here, the culture, and the environment are all things in Staten Island that I have been accustomed to from growing up and developing here as a man. Your homeland doesn't define you as a person, but those tendencies from that homeland will always be in you. However, that doesn't mean I wouldn't be able to identify with anyone else that's not from Staten Island. This made me think about what it means to be American in the United States. This is a bit different because being a Staten Islander, i'm still able to identify with people from other states. Therefore, I should try and define what it truly means to be an American. While thinking this over I came up with four meaningful things, that comes to my mind about living in the land of the free. Firstly, an American to me is anyone that can see the best things in life come with risks. This means Americans are gamblers in a good way, in order to get to the top you have to be willing to take the losses along the way and the bumps in the road, if you will. Next, Americans in the worst of times aren't timid and they don't fold, they look to hope to try and bring us through the tough times. This can be exemplified as Americans not being quitters when things get bad we don't hide, we fight even harder and use hope to get us over the hump. Another quality of being an American, is their ability to use their own brain and god given gifts to conquer anything they put Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Examples Of Integrating Quotes Integrating quotations is when a writer places a quote п»їп»їinto п»їп»їп»їп»їп»їп»їп»їп»їп»їп»їп»їп»їп»їhis or her writing. п»їп»їп»їп»їWe as writers, often integrate quotations into our work. Integrating quotes allows readers to see credibility in our writing. Dropping quotes without a warning, starting or ending a paragraph with a quote and giving little information, or even giving too much information, are all examples of how integrating quotes is done incorrectly. However, there are several ways to fix these mistakes. One way is to signal the quote is coming, allowing the reader to be looking out for it. Another way to fix it is to give guidance to the reader, tell them what you think about the quote and why you put it there, creating a link between the two. • 17. "With great power comes great responsibility"– Uncle Ben in Spider–Man. That phrase is often quoted to people who receive power as a warning that power can be used for good thing, but can also be used for bad things. Power has a negative effect on leaders because it makes them arrogant and lose trust in others. Leaders who have power lose trust in others because power makes them suspicious of others. One example is from the play Antigone by Sophocles. When King Creon of Thebes finds out that someone has buried Polyneices, he immediately says "No, from the very beginning there have been those who have whispered together, stiff–necked anarchists...[ ] scheming against me in alleys."–Scene I, Lines 127–130. • 18. Making a Positive Change in My Community We all have something close to our heart that could make a positive change in our community and possibly even our earth. I could make a positive change in my community by raising money through fundraisers to buy new, unused, cotton clothing (shoes, shirts, shorts), and by donating these needed clothing items to underprivileged children. Due to my many hours of work in the community soup kitchen it was brought to my attention that there is a need for more than food, there is a necessitate for clothing. I would hope to make sure no child goes unclothed. Namely I would do this because I feel that clothing is not a luxury but a necessity. When I disinterred that some children in poor countries and communities do not posse basic needs such as clothing, I was heart broken. This problem needs to be solved and I believe that this project/plan could, solve this dilemma or at least begin to resolve it. This obstacle is larger than most people realize because in our area clothing is taken as a luxury that everyone owns; but unlike previously thought it has been brought to my attention that many areas do not have access to this "luxury," and I do not believe that is right so if I was able to find a way to mend this issue, I would be willing. No human being should go without a clean pair of clothes, and I have a daring plan to fix that. If I were to implement this plan I am determined to start by brainstorming ideas for a good fundraiser for example a lemonade stand, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

BSIE–HE 4A Quotation: 1."Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending." –Maria Robinson Explanation: Our lives are full of ups and downs. Often we get so caught up with the downs in our lives that we fall into depression. We feel that everything in life is falling apart. You regret the choices you've made in the past and feel that you have failed in life. Understand that you cannot go back in time and undo choices you've made but that you can stop yourself from repeating the past by making smarter decisions so that you can have a better future. Nothing is impossible if we try new things and nothing will lose if you try right. 4."The heart has its reasons which reason knows not." –Blaise Pascal Explanation: The heart, the organ capable of storing love can also reason. Its reasoning makes all the sense in the world to the heart and to the heart's owner when the owner first hears it. It's the reasoning that makes you fall in love at first sight. It's the reasoning that somehow makes it so hard to let somebody go even though you have no logical reason to want that person to stay. Reaction: The quote means that you have to listen to your heart. Just like in love, you just only knew that you love that person but you don't know why. We fall in love in a mutual weirdness and called it love. 5."When love is not madness it is not love." –Pedro CalderГіn de la Barca Explanation: The actual quote is when love is not madness, it is not love, and it is by Pedro Calderon.
