前回よりコンテナ技術にまつわるウェビナーシリーズを開始し、今回はその２回目となります。初回（前回）のウェビナーではコンテナの概要やコンテナ技術を実装するに当たって OS に求められる機能、またコンテナの歴史などについてご紹介致しました。これらは基本的に一つのサーバーや VM 内でのコンテナのお話でした。今回はコンテナの数が増加し、それらの連携がより複雑になって来たときにコンテナをどう管理するか、つまり「コンテナ・オーケストレーション」の話をご紹介します。同時にコンテナレジストリ管理やイメージスキャンなどのセキュリティに関する、エコシステムの話もカバーしたいと思います。

Talk Description: What a difference a year makes. Last year Paypal presented on scaling a CI infrastructure with Docker, Mesos and Jenkins. Over the past year we worked on integrating Docker to the core of our PaaS ecosystem. We are Dockerizing the entire PayPal application ecosystem consisting of polyglot Java, Node.js, Scala, C++ and Python frameworks. In this journey we have introduced HA Docker Registry with ElasticSearch search plugin using both OpenStack Swift and Cinder storage, cross-data center ATS server smart image caching along with a developer-friendly boot2docker fig/compose workflow for Kraken (open source nodeJS) stack. This we believe has the potential to become one of the largest financial services production deployment of Docker.

Docker is awesome and there's been a lot of excitement over .NET Core running in Linux containers. But why do older apps have to miss out on the fun? With Windows Server 2016 and Windows Server containers, there's finally a way to dockerize .NET 4.6 apps using the same Docker tools and commands as we're used to on Linux. In this intermediate level talk, I'll give an overview of Docker and Windows Server containers. Then I'll demonstrate different ways to run existing ASP.NET Web API, MVC, and even WebForms applications inside Docker containers.

Presented by Sandro Cirulli, Platform Tech Lead, Oxford University Press Oxford University Press (OUP) recently started the Oxford Global Languages (OGL) initiative (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/words/oxfordlanguages) which aims at providing language resources for digitally under represented languages. In August 2015 OUP launched two African languages websites for Zulu (http://zu.oxforddictionaries.com) and Northern Sotho (http://nso.oxforddictionaries.com). The backend of these websites is based on an API retrieving data in RDF from a triple store and delivering data to the frontend in JSON-LD. The entire micro-service infrastructure for development, staging, and production runs on Docker containers in Amazon EC2 instances. In particular, we use Jenkins to rebuild the Docker image for the API based on a Python Flask application and Docker Compose to orchestrate the containers. A typical CI workflow is as follows: - a developer commits code to the codebase - Jenkins triggers a job to run unit tests - if the unit tests are successful, the Docker image of the Python Flask application is rebuilt and the container is restarted via Docker Compose - if the unit tests or the Docker build failed, the monitor view shows the Jenkins jobs in red and displays the name of the possible culprit who broke the build. One of the most underrated features of Kubernetes is namespaces. In the market, instead of using this feature, people are still stuck with having different clusters for their environments. This talk will try to break this approach, and will introduce how we end up using ephemeral namespaces within our CI/CD pipeline. It will cover the architecture of our system for running the user acceptance tests on isolated ephemeral namespaces with every bits and pieces running within pods.
