1. Installing RVR
Before starting RVR, be sure that you have installed HEC-RAS version 4.0. Then, unzip the zipped folder,
double click the install icon and press install, and wait some seconds until the installation is finished.
To start RVR, go to the HEC-RAS help option and select the option RVR (Figure 1).

2. Using RVR
When executing RVR you will have the welcome window, and after some 5 seconds the main window.
The first step consists in loading a HEC-RAS geometry file where you are going to work. This is done by
pressing the button "Load Geometric File"(figure 2). This button will display a dialog showing the folder
and all files with the extension .gXX (Figure 3).

Once the geometric file is loaded, the next step is to load the file with the new roughness values for the
cross sections. This task is accomplished by pressing the button "Load Roughness File"(figure 4). This
button will display a dialog showing the folder and all files with the extension .txt, which is the extension
of the file with the roughness values (Figure 5).

The last step is just to press the button labeled "Update Roughness Values". Once all the values were
updated, a message box will pop up with the message " Roughness values successfully updated..." as in
Figure 6.

NOTE: The names of all the cross sections of the given river and reach must be consecutive integers.

3. Roughness file
The file with the roughness values is a ".txt" file very easy to understand and to prepare. Moreover, this
special format allows assigning one different value for each cross section.
This file consists of one single column where each row is the roughness values for each cross section.
The first value is the value for the upstream cross section, and the next rows are the values for for the
next cross section going downstreams.
The values must begin with a dot (.). For instance, if the value is 0.013, then the value in the file would
be ".013".
