6. Setup of ODA
6 04/10/16
Prerequisites
– Make customer download and use offline configurator to create a starting point
– Make customer be prepared for DNS configuration (SCAN)
– Ethernet Switches do not need a special patching – should provide hub functionality
– Client Workstation, if possible Windows with Java 7, needs an IP (optional DNS) too
– ILOM IPs should be reachable, for tests, there is not benefit of an admin lan
– Try to get all the Core Key Files in advance, start with minimum cores
– Download all related bundle patches and clone files of last and last but one version
7. Setup of ODA
7 04/10/16
Make customer start with BMR of latest version – 1 to be able to do patching
9. Test Plan
9 04/10/16
Customer Brainstorming leads to …
• introduce GI features if necessary
• patching
• multiple Oracle Homes
• restart DBs at different node
• applying Core Keys
• 3 KPIs
Try to introduce your favorites
Try to convert your insights into later projects
10. Test Plan
10 04/10/16
Enrich Customer Brainstorming with Test Plan Outline (Doc ID 1474273.1)
Test Case 1 - Simulate failures to Internal (OS) disks
Test Case 2 - HDD (Hard Disk Drive) failure
Test Case 3 - SDD (Solid State Disk) failure
Test Case 4 - Connectivity to Database
Test Case 5 - Connection failover and continued service availability
Test Case 6 - Private network failure
Test Case 7 - Public Network Failure
Test Case 8 - Database backup and recovery test
12. Maintenance / Integration
12 04/10/16
Make customer aware of search string “ODA”
Install additional Oracle_Homes
Build databases in each home
Do a complete patch cycle
If you clone Production to ODA from NFS Mount
– adjust parameters
– adjust size and location of redo logs
Preferrable: Data Pumpt Import
Transfere statistics if necessary
Integrate the ODA to (your) Cloud Control
13. Maintenance / Integration
13 04/10/16
Mistakes at Customer Site
Storage was powered off – Validating Storage did not show errors
Infiniband Interconnect was not selected in configurator
Linux Upgrade failed – Servers did not boot anymore
– “Tried to locate /boot/vmlinuz-26.39-400.264.13.el6uek.x86_64”
15. Performancetests
15 04/10/16
Customer Case:
Planned KPI’s were 3 Batch Jobs
– Transform tables post load from production DB
– Rebuild MVs
– Swingbench Benchmarking
Customer wanted to use ODA as consolidation platform, means no moving datafiles to
SSD / Flash
16. Performancetests
16 04/10/16
Storage Setup at Customer Site: EMC VNX 5400
Blau = SAS Flash 16 x 200GB
Gelb = SAS 100 x 300GB
Grün = NL SAS 50 x 2TB
18. Performancetests
18 04/10/16
to get an overview of the expected results

20. Lessons learned
20 04/10/16
Try to get core keys in advance
Check the competing DB – if you are not sure to win then prepare the customer
Keep ODA parameters during clone
Check Known Issues carefully
Change your role if necessary – means, if ODA fails:
– Make the customer aware that you did do a good job:
• integration support
• Validating KPI
22. Session Feedback – now
TechEvent September 201622 09.09.2016
Please use the Trivadis Events Mobile App to give session feedback
Use "My schedule" if you registered for this session
Otherwise use "Agenda" and the search function
If the mobile App does not work (or if you have a Windows Phone) use your Mobile
