2. The media specialist will also have a graphic organizer that demonstrates a typical hero cycle.
3. The media specialist will read the first chapter of The Lightning Thief to the students, stopping to discuss what they think is going on as Percy Jackson introduces himself. Students will also be asked why they think the chapter is entitled “I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher” and if that titles motivates them to want to continue reading.
4. After completing chapter 1, students will discuss what appeals to them about how Percy tells his story. The media center specialist will ask the students what they think happened that makes Percy feel the way he does at the end of the first chapter.
5. Students will continue to read independently and post to the blog HalfBlood.blog.blogspot.com weekly until they are scheduled to come back into the media center and discuss the book as a group again.
6. The challenge will be to be a true half blood and complete the book by a specific date and continue reading the other four books in the series.
