Transformer is an electromagnetic energy conversion device, where the energy is received by the primary which is first converted to magnetic; which is then mutually conducted to other winding and then again converted back to desired electrical form at secondary winding circuit or third winding circuit etc. Copy the link given below and paste it in new browser window to get more information on Construction of Transformer:- http://www.transtutors.com/homework-help/electrical-engineering/transformer/construction-of-transformer.aspx
3. Transformer core
It is made of highly permeable iron.
It is made of silicon steel lamination insulated with
rectangular steel strip.
They are classified as
Core type transformer:
for single phase core is a two legged containing low
voltage and high voltage winding on both legs.
Shell type transformer:
for single phase is three legged, containing low and
high voltage winding on central leg.
5. Transformer winding
Transformer winding is made of copper and aluminum
wire.
Aluminum wire is used for smaller applications.
Copper winding is used for larger power applications.
Smaller units use laminated with cotton, enamel
Larger units use oil impregnated paper.
Concentric and pancake type of winding is used:
7. Enclosure and cooling system
Steel tank is used as enclosure to protect elements of
transformer.
Transformer unit is submerged in oil for cooling.
8. Brushing and terminals
Assembly of winding lead through porcelain and
plastic cylinder is known as brushing.
For low voltage flexible wires are used.
For high voltage stiff leads or bars are used
through porcelain cylinder of varying thickness.
9. Auto transformer
This is a single winding transformer.
It have multiple tapping for low voltage , high
voltage conversion.
It is smaller, cheaper, lighter and lower losses.
10. Three phase transformer
Three phase transformer bank
Single structure for three phase transformer
