1. Task 4
Who would be the audience for your media product?
We targeted the film to 15-24 year olds as we found from our research that
this age groups is the most common age group that enjoy thrillers. We
wanted to aim our thriller at age groups we thought would watch it most. To
target this age group we wanted to use characters 15- 16 as this age group
are more inclined to watch it if the characters are a similar to them.
From secondary research we found from Pearl and Dean which is a website
which presents a comparable profile (shown below) which shows the
percentage of different age groups who have watched the film. We wanted
to know who are most common audience age group was going to be. To do
this we researched the comparable profiles of the films which inspired us to
create the movie, which were Taken 1 and 2 and The Strangers.
2. Taken Was our main inspiration, on Taken’s comparable profile we found that 0% of age
groups 14 and under have watched Taken, this may be because it is against the law to
watch films if your under aged. We also found that 15- 24 had he highest percentage
which shows they are the most likely age group to be interested in the type of film we
have created as our storyline was interpreted to be quite similar to the movie Taken as the
movie gave us our storyline idea. From researching the comparable profiles and from my
primary research i found 15-24 year olds are going to be our main audience type. Which
made us as a group to aim our audience around this age group as they are the audience
whom are more inclined to watch it.
3. This is Olivia Hanson. She is 16 years old and lives
Target Audience: in South Croydon, she dresses fairly straight
forward and similar clothing to others in the local
area like jean/legging and a top. She enjoys
hanging out with her friends and watching
chickflicks and scary movies. Her favourite
chickflicks are 'Mean Girls', 'Picture This' and
'How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days' she likes to buy
then on DVD so she can watch them on repeat and
with her friends when she has sleepovers or lazy
days. She also enjoys going to the cinema and
watching scary movies, two of the movies she
went to see in a month were 'The Strangers' and
'The Devil Inside'. On the weekend she likes to go
shopping with her friends and go to McDonalds.
She shops where most teenagers shop like
Topshop, River Island, Republic, Primark and New
Look. Then after shopping she would usually go to
a friends house and watch programmes on
Comedy Central, E4, MTV and Channel 5 which
had her favourite shows e.g. The Hills, Big
Brother, Friends and How I Met Your Mother.
Olivia enjoys mostly pop music and music played
on Capital, that are usually in the charts, however
she does enjoy listening to songs which she grew
up with as well like Busted, Steps and Spice Girls.
I believe our film would appeal to Olivia as she is a
stereotypical girly girl who enjoys a thriller/ scary
movie which she can watch with her friends and
our movie is similar to others films she likes.
