Here are some key points from the mood board analysis:
- Colors are repeated to represent each season naturally - pastels for spring, brights for summer, oranges/browns for fall, greys for winter.
- Clothing, shoes, hairstyles depicted match what is popular/visual for each season.
- Locations shown will influence photo shoot locations to match season themes.
- Understanding seasonal styles and colors from the boards will help choose clothing/layouts that look good and match the intended season in the magazine.
- The mood boards provide visual references to draw from for realistic seasonal representation in the final product.
2. Initial Reaction• My initial thoughts regarding the starting brief is that I want to do something that
surrounds photography whether that being a portfolio or a magazine.
• I want to do photography because it is the most enjoyable part of the course in my
point of view. However, I also enjoyed the creations of short films, so if possible I
would like to find a way of getting that in also.
• I want whatever I make to have a theme and link throughout the entirety of my
project. • I want to make something that would cater to
one specific audience because I think that it
would be easier to create something that one
group would like rather than creating something
that tries to cater to everyone.
• I thought that it would be best that what I did
included something that I have done in a
previous rotation so that I wasn’t going into my
FMP blind not knowing what to do.
• With my print rotation I learnt everything I would
need to know for this, because of that I feel
confident that I will be able to create something
that would look good.
3. Initial Reaction
• In my previous rotation when I created a magazine cover I enjoyed the
process of making it, so taking that into consideration I think that I should
create something that I will enjoy making because I think that if I enjoy
what I'm making I think that my end product will turn out a lot better.
• I want to something that mainly uses photoshop because out of the
software I’ve used I feel the most confident with photoshop.
• For my FMP I knew straight away that I wanted to create a fashion based
magazine something like:
This is because I want my
magazine to be as realistic and
professional looking as possible.
I want to create a similar
magazine to vogue because they
have a good front cover design
that they have kept since the
magazine started, which makes
people think that because the
magazine is so popular the
design doesn’t have to change
to please anyone.
4. Initial Reaction
My initial reaction regarding the starting brief was that I
wanted to create a magazine of some sort because I like
designing magazine covers and enjoy learning new skills in
photo shop. I would like to do a magazine that evolves a lot of
photography, this is because I want to try out different editing
styles throughout the magazine that I decide to make. My first
thought when it comes to choosing what type of magazine I
want to make is either a fashion of lifestyle magazine. This is
because both magazines require a lot of photography which is
something I specifically want to focus on. I wanted to create a
magazine because out of all the rotations I enjoyed print the
most, so I wanted to do something similar to that rotation
because I think that it would suit me best out of the three that
we did.

7. • The mind map that I have produced shows four potential ideas. I decided that for
my FMP I wanted to focus my project either on print or film so I came up with two
ideas for each.
• For film I chose to look at producing a silent horror film for this I talked about how I
would get the story across without actually telling it with words. For the film to
work, I would have to tell the story through how the camera moves and the
expressions from the actors. I chose to cater this film for ages fifteen and over due
to it possibly having jump scares. I want to try and do a silent film because I think
that it would show off the camera skills a lot more since there are no words to
focus on. I also looked in to doing a stereotypical teenage horror film I would make
it in a comedic way by including things that are well known to be in a horror film,
like; running towards danger instead of runny away from it.
• I also looked into doing print. I decided to plan out a film magazine that would
cater to men in their early to late thirties. I think that creating a magazine based
solely on it being sold to men is quite different, due to magazines usually only cater
to women and young children. In the magazine I would include film reviews and I
would want to style the magazine with a retro theme because I think that would fit
really well with the films. I also looked at creating a fashion magazine, I would cater
it towards females aged fifteen-twenty meaning it will include a lot of different

8. content to fit with the ages. The magazine would be based around seasonal
themes including the fashion trends for each season. I would want the
magazines “gossip” to be positively based due to all the magazines we see
only have negative gossip. With the magazine I would focus on having
something that would cater to everyone that would be reading it.
10. • This mind map shows my final idea in a lot more detail. For my main idea I'm doing
a magazine, look book(video) and photography portfolio.
• For the photography portfolio, I want to have individual pages for each photograph
so that I can describe in detail about how I took the photo and if it was edited how
it was. I will also describe the choice in color, for the background and clothing.
• For my magazine I want it to cater to women in the age group fifteen-twenty. I
chose this age group because the things that I will be including things that children
younger than fifteen wont necessarily be interested in.

12. Mind Map Analysis
• When coming up with the idea of how I was going to
portray my final idea of my front cover, I thought about
what content I was going to briefly mention. I didn’t want
to overload my cover with content because I don’t want to
give too much of what's inside away. I had though of a lot
of different names until I settled with “I Like”. I chose it
because I think that the name links in with what the
magazine is about, fashion. When planning the layout of my
magazine, I mostly wanted the cover to be one image
because I think it makes the magazine look more like a
magazine that already exist, due to the fact most fashion
magazines only use one model on the cover. This person is
usually a well known celebrity.
14. Mind Map Analysis
• When planning out what I want my photography to
look like in my magazine I mostly want it to fit in with
the season its supposed to be photographed around.
The mind map mostly shows my basic plan of what I
want the people in my magazine to wear and how I
want their hair to be. I also looked into different
locations for each season, this is so that if it isn’t quite
understood what season is being portrayed by the
clothing being worn then hopefully the location will
help with figuring it out. Whilst knowing exactly where
I want to take the photos and what I want them to
wear I decided to looking into other options to see
what would work best for the given season.
15. Pros and Cons
For my magazine idea, the pros are that all of them are original ideas. I wanted to
create a magazine that was different and that has never been seen before. Due to
liking the print rotation I thought that it would be best fit to create something
similar to what I did for that. When it comes to getting the photos I need I have
easy access to good photography locations that are free and legal.
The cons of my written ideas is that because my idea is different I don’t have a
specific magazine to look at and reference my work to, this may put me at a
disadvantage when starting my production. I could struggle finding people to be in
my magazine, and even if I do schedules may clash and/or they don’t put in any
effort. Because my magazine is seasonal based it may be difficult finding specific
locations that fit the particular season.
For my film idea, the pros are that that I enjoy the process of making a short film,
apart from the editing. I could easily come up with a storyline. making a short film
is an easier way get across what your trying to portray.
The cons are, the majority of people that I know don’t enjoy being on camera so
will most likely not want to participate in a short film, or similar to the magazine
the schedules may clash and/or they don’t put in any effort. I think that I will most
likely not use this idea because I don’t like a lot of the editing process.
21. Mood Board Analysis
• Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated
colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
• There are some colours repeated, such as pink and green. This is because they are very natural spring colours. I
chose to display clothes and shoes that mostly represent natural colours because I would like to represent
spring as being a quite calm season. From researching there's a lot of repetition of pastel colours.
• For summer there are a lot of blues and whites, as well as oranges. Summer is represented by bright colours.
This can also be seen in the shoes that I chose. Summer is very warm so the hairstyles I chose are up and out of
the face.
• For fall, I have chosen to theme it around different shades of grey. I have also shown different styles of boots
that are popular during fall. Different shades of oranges and brown make a lot of appearances during fall,
because the colours represent the leaves that fall off of the trees.
• During winter black, grey and green parker jackets sky rocket in popularity. From what I have seen grey is also a
popular colour in winter. Checked scarfs paired with Timberland boots look great for any winters outing.
• How will your mood board influence your final product?
• For spring, my mood boards will influence my final product by helping me realise what types of clothing, foot
wear and hairstyles fit for each particular season. It will help my product because I can see what colours do and
do not work together. Knowing this will help me decide what clothing I choose to display in the magazine and
what is most visually pleasing to the reader. For my magazine I think its just as important for the page to look
good as it for what is written.
• My mood board will help influence my final because I have included season themed location for each planned
photo shoot. This will help when it comes to choosing where I want to take my photos, though some of the
photos could be quite difficult to achieve because I don’t have access to all four seasons in one week.
• The mood board also can help when it comes to choosing what clothing to pair with each season. Knowing this
will help the magazine look more appealing.
