Black Girls
Adultification & Oversexualization
Adultification is how African American children are
viewed and treated as older than what they are
Oversexualization is to sexualize excessively
The Origin
Reproduction and having a constant supply of slaves was
essential to the institution of slavery. Pilgrim states that
enslaved young Black girls were encouraged to have sex as
part of their “socializations” as future “breeders.”
Jezebel is a slave construct and stereotype that paints Black
women as evil and immoral. The Jezebel stereotype is
“synonymous with promiscuity,” having “an insatiable sexual
appetite,” and “someone who uses sex to manipulate men,”

advocates to develop effective policies and
practices that alleviate poverty and inequality in
the United States. T
CAASE
A particular challenge we face now is the increasingly
violent and dehumanizing political rhetoric targeting
marginalized communities. Because such groups are
already disproportionately impacted by sexual
violation, these attacks harm those we serve, and
constitute challenges in our staff, already stretched to
their capacity, are seeking to address through all
aspects of our work: community engagement, legal
services, prevention and public policy and advocacy.

A Long Walk Home (ALWH) is a national
art organization based in Chicago
that empowers young people to
end violence against girls and women.
My Solution
Center for Black
Girls
Not enough attention focued
pm the nurturing of young
black girls. I want to change
that . This will be a safe space
for these little girls to grow into
the person the want to be.

for them to explore and
figure out what they like
Teach them about their
bodies and what it means
to be a black GIRL

Adultification Bias is a real thing that needs to be
addressed. I want to implement a program during the
onboarding process starting with all teachers and
staff. This is important beacuse teachers need to
recognize that the "fast" little girl needs guidance and
help before she gets in a bad situation.
