1. In this essay I will be talking about the preliminary video that I had made and why we have put what
we have put in there and why we had used the camera angles that we had used.
In the start of the preliminary video we used a long shot to show the whole of the persons body of
him walking down the corridor, the reason we done this was so that you could see the whole person
to realise that they were a student at a school and that see the way that he walked shows us that he
didn’t want to be there because he knew that he was going to be told off for not doing his
homework. We done this because then he is going to be more related to what a normal student
would be like because a lot of students would not want to go see there teachers after school times.
After that we used a over the shoulder view so that it is like the persons view of going into the room,
we used this so that it would put the audience in the persons view, this is used so that many people
can relate to the person because most people would have been in this situation before when they
were at school.
Then we showed him going through the door and sitting down at a desk, this is important because it
shows nice smooth cuts from the camera outside of the door of him going into the room and from
the camera being inside of the room and him coming inside, this is to make it so that there is always
someone in the shot who is the main focus, having someone in the shot makes it seem that there is
always something happening, with him sitting down we used a over the shoulder shot from the
teacher, this is important because its like you are seeing from the teachers point of view because he
is problem thinking that both of them don’t want to be there because the student is wasting his time
because he should have done his homework.
After that we had a conversation between the teacher and the student, we used this because having
them talk shows how they are feeling at that point, example of this is that the student uses a form of
relaxing tone to show that he is not really paying attention to what the teacher is saying and that he
does not really care about what’s going to happen, where as the teacher uses more of a formal way
of talking to sort of show that he is trying to get a point across to the student, for this we used over
the shoulder shots from over the teachers left shoulder and over the students right shoulder so that
we would not break the 180 degree rule. At the end of the conversation the student started to fall
asleep so we used a close up/ extreme close up of the teachers mouth to show him yelling at the
student, this is important because it makes the audience realise the emotion that the teacher is
feeling so they know he is annoyed at the student because they realise that the student is bored and
is falling asleep.
At the end of the conversation we used long/medium shot to show both the teacher and the student
and the students reaction to the teacher yelling at him, we used this so that you could see the whole
body of both the characters, we used the falling over to show that the student was surprised and
that he reacted to it by hitting his leg on the table, after this he felt embarrassed so he tried to leave
the room but he couldn’t open the door and when he finally got out he ran down the corridor and
fell over again which would have made him feel more embarrassed, the camera angles that we used
in this were long shots/ extreme long shots the reason we used the is so that you could see the
student running down the corridor and then falling over.
In conclusion we mostly used medium/long shots because it can be used to show the whole body of
the student/teacher so that it can be used to show a lot of body language so that the audience can
understand better what is happening.
