1. The Mechanics were well planned and thought through. The first thing we decided to keep was
the crowd of people. When I created them, I didn’t find it difficult. It was a simple set of rules to an
Actor. Making them go one way, until they collide with “The Left Invisible Wall” and then they turn
back and repeat after colliding with “The Right Invisible Wall”. The same effect in Pong.
2. The next big thing was to have a ladder. Ladders are very difficult to recreate in gamesalad
unfortunately. I spent most of my time trying to figure this one out. I could have the velocity shift
when he comes in contact with the object, so he could ‘float’ upwards. It seemed to me that the
answer was there the whole time. One of my team mates asked me if it needed to be a ladder,
and why couldn’t it be a spaceship pulling him upwards with it’s beam? I understood what they
meant and then, decided to ditch the ladder and animate an air vent in it’s place.
3. Falling Girders was also something easy to create. I simply created a shape that spawned
another shape with a velocity shift to send them crashing towards the ground and a timer so they
are destroyed when they leave the scene.
4. Very important assets to Coffee run game are the Gravity boxes. These have a magical
element to them, fighting the physics and are generally fun to play with in the game. whether they
are being used to get across to the finish line, or free play, which is why they were placed in the
first place.
5. The most interesting part of the game is the animation. I could not have the game run without
any moving clouds, flashing hotel signs and bright lampposts. I believe that a good game needs
to look just as good as it plays. Because it is just the one level of Coffee Run, I have managed to
dedicate more time to the animating that usual and I am glad I made that decision. Many of the
animations we had wanted but didn’t think we could make were actually brought into the game; I
feel proud of Coffee Runs appearance and am very satisfied with it’s playability.
