The Cheyenne lived in North and South Dakota, Montana, and Oklahoma, where winters were very cold with heavy snowfall and summers were warm and dry. They lived in tepees made of buffalo hide or brush lodges, with women running the household while men hunted. The Cheyenne diet consisted of buffalo, deer, fruits, vegetables, and berries obtained through hunting, gathering, and farming. They made their clothing and tools mainly from buffalo materials. The Cheyenne believed in many gods and spirits, with their main god being Heammawiho, and practiced arts like quill embroidery, beadwork, pottery, and pipestone carving.
