4. If it feels more crowded on your flights these days, that’s because
it is. More than 201 million extra passengers flew on U.S. airlines
last year compared with in 2005, but U.S. carriers operated 1.6
million fewer flights, reports Forbes.
Carriers are also reducing seat pitch — the distance from one
seat to the one in front — to squeeze in a few extra rows. Many
have also gone from nine seats across, to 10.
The result? Planes are now carrying 32% more passengers on
average than a decade ago.
