What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing the product?
Final Cut
• The main thing I have learnt is how to use final cut to edit videos in
order to add effects, transitions, and text. This has helped me
create a better atmosphere for a horror, for example I used final cut
to create the illusion that a character is disappearing and
reappearing. Final cut has also allowed me to add the opening
credits by just using add text and adjusting it on the timeline; I was
also able to make it appear at a precise time by going through
individual frames, either by zooming in on the timeline or by using a
feature which allowed me to scroll through individual frames. Final
cut also provided a range of transitions so that we could link the
shots together.
• Using final cut, I was also able to create an eerie feel by slowing
down shots by changing the speed percentage. Another way final
cut allowed us to create a horror atmosphere was by changing the
volume of audio (by altering the decibels) at certain parts of the
film to make parts seem more dramatic.
Photoshop
• Another thing I have learnt about is the use of
Photoshop; this allowed our group to make an
inverted colour version of the main setting to
help create a transition for when one of the
characters disappears and reappears. We also
used Photoshop to create a low battery sign to
make it obvious the viewer was looking through a
characters camera; we did this by using an image
we had found online and editing it to put it in
better quality by changing the colours and
sharpening some edges so it wasn’t as blared.
Music- Cubase6, Midi and online
browsing
• Technology also helped us create music for our product via cubase6
and MIDI (musical instrument digital interface), this allowed us to
create a song on a MIDI keyboard and use key editor to move notes
into the right key or change the length of them. Cubase6 also
provided a huge range of effects, so we chose to add delay and
reverb to it to create a creepy effect.
• We also used online search engines to find royalty free music, this
meant we could use pre made music without the risk of copyright
issues.
• While we were looking for music for our film, we came across
garage band. From this we were able to use samples for music and
sound effects for our film, although we didn’t use it because we
preferred the music we had created and the royalty free music.
Cameras and shots
• We used three cameras at the same time rather than
capturing the same shot three times from different angles
so that we could edit them without any random changes in
acting or in natural occurrences such as the sun light. We
gave one character a camera so that we could get a POV
shot; this gave the viewers a chance to look through the
eyes of the character and make them feel nervous and to
add tension. More shots captured include an establishing
shot (so the audience knows the setting) and pans (to set
the mood of the film and to follow the characters). We also
used medium close ups, this was effective as it captured
the facial expressions and emotions of characters.
• Still shots were also captured for the recce shots when we
looked at the settings while planning the film.
Planning and Research
• For planning and research, we used various Microsoft applications
such as Word and PowerPoint to complete work. We were then
able to upload it online on our blogs, this meant we could save
storage and meant we could continue work while at different places
in college and at home.
• We put work online by using multiple sites, improving quality of
work; this was done by using Prezi (which creates an online
PowerPoint that moves, enables you to zoom and allows you to use
online sources such as YouTube videos in the Prezi document),
Slideshare (which allows you to put documents on a slideshow
which is completely online and saves space while on the blog),
Blogger (which is a Google application that creates blogs) and Wix
(a site builder that I used to create my evaluation website).

Music- Cubase6, Midi and online browsing • Technology also helped us create music for our product via cubase6 and MIDI (musical instrument digital interface), this allowed us to create a song on a MIDI keyboard and use key editor to move notes into the right key or change the length of them. Cubase6 also provided a huge range of effects, so we chose to add delay and reverb to it to create a creepy effect. • We also used online search engines to find royalty free music, this meant we could use pre made music without the risk of copyright issues. • While we were looking for music for our film, we came across garage band. From this we were able to use samples for music and sound effects for our film, although we didn’t use it because we preferred the music we had created and the royalty free music.
  • 5. Cameras and shots • We used three cameras at the same time rather than capturing the same shot three times from different angles so that we could edit them without any random changes in acting or in natural occurrences such as the sun light. We gave one character a camera so that we could get a POV shot; this gave the viewers a chance to look through the eyes of the character and make them feel nervous and to add tension. More shots captured include an establishing shot (so the audience knows the setting) and pans (to set the mood of the film and to follow the characters). We also used medium close ups, this was effective as it captured the facial expressions and emotions of characters. • Still shots were also captured for the recce shots when we looked at the settings while planning the film.
  • 6. Planning and Research • For planning and research, we used various Microsoft applications such as Word and PowerPoint to complete work. We were then able to upload it online on our blogs, this meant we could save storage and meant we could continue work while at different places in college and at home. • We put work online by using multiple sites, improving quality of work; this was done by using Prezi (which creates an online PowerPoint that moves, enables you to zoom and allows you to use online sources such as YouTube videos in the Prezi document), Slideshare (which allows you to put documents on a slideshow which is completely online and saves space while on the blog), Blogger (which is a Google application that creates blogs) and Wix (a site builder that I used to create my evaluation website).
