2. What if things got really bad with what’s going on
with our economic situation.
The bad guys may be more willing to take what’s
yours or do harm to your family, so you may have to
be more protective of your property and family and
take extra steps to increase security and awareness.
You should try to make your home as secure as
possible so intruders will move on to easier targets.
3. Security lights outside that have motion detectors
are a good idea and should be used.
Solar powered security lights with motion
detection are available and handy if the power is
out, you would still have outside light security.
4. For home security you should plant thorny plants or bushes
under or around windows and around areas that you feel
would be areas of approach to help you control an intruders
movement.
If you do not have a fence, you can string wire or
monofilament fishing line in strategic places at different
heights from the ground to create trip hazards and to slow
down intruders, the wire would be less visible at night and if
hidden by foliage.
A benefit to creating obstacles like these is you can direct or
control someone to a point that is more easily observed. An
intruder may avoid any obstacles to find an easier entry
point.
5. Dogs can be good for alerting you of something wrong
outside, they have an uncanny sense of hearing something
that is not right.
Even a small dog makes a good alarm even if too small to
help defend you.
A large dog would be more capable of defending you. If you
have a dog that barks at any noise it hears, it will do no good
at alerting you of a problem, you will not know what’s for
real.
Even if you have a close neighbor with a dog, it will be of
benefit to you.
6. Your doors and windows may not be secure enough.
If your doors open outward, they are more difficult to break into. It
makes them hard to kick in because the force is into the door frame.
Doors that open inward have only the lock and dead bolt holding it
in place and are easier to break in.
If your door opens inward you can get security bars to help
strengthen the door frame.
Locks are not always secure, most can be easily picked or
destroyed to gain entry to the home, chose a lock with ANSI Grade
1 classification .
Make sure you install a peep hole in the doors if you do not have
one. Research on line to find the best methods to secure your doors
and windows.
