PyCassa is a python wrapper for Cassandra, the open source non-relational database. Cassandra has gained a lot of momentum recently because of big data problems and its ability to scale well. Rather than adding more memory to a machine and having to change the database schema, you just add more servers which forms a cluster of "nodes." In this talk I'll go over setting up Cassandra in windows and connecting to it with PyCassa.

At Signal we've been running Apache Cassandra in production since late 2011. We use a multi-region Cassandra deployment to make our data available globally to our customers. While Cassandra does much of the heavy lifting for us, we've run into interesting challenges during periods of rapid growth. In this presentation we'll focus on one of those scenarios, including our before and after data model, methodology and tools we used to recover and lessons learned along the way.

Abstract. Web 2.0 and Enterprise 2.0 concepts offer a whole new set of collaborative tools that allow new approaches to market research, in order to explore continuously and ever fast-growing social and media environments. Simultaneously, the exponential growth of online social networks, along with a combination of computer-based tools, is contributing to the construction of new kinds of research communities, in which respondents interact with researchers as well as with each other. Furthermore, by studying the networks, researchers are able to manage multiple data sources - user-generated contents. The main purpose of this paper is to propose a new concept of Distributed Informal Information Systems for Innovation that arises from the interaction of the accumulated stock of knowledge emerging at the individual (micro) level. A descriptive study is to unveil and report when and how market research professionals use social networks for their work, creating, therefore, distributed information systems for innovation.

Wait! Back away from the Cassandra 2ndary index. It’s ok for some use cases, but it’s not an easy button. "But I need to search through a bunch of columns to look for the data and I want to do some regression analysis… and I can’t model that in C*, even after watching all of Patrick McFadins videos. What do I do?” The answer, dear developer, is in DSE Search and Analytics. With it’s easy Solr API and Spark integration so you can search and analyze data stored in your Cassandra database until your heart’s content. Take our hand. WE will show you how.

Apache HBase is an open source distributed data-store capable of managing billions of rows of semi-structured data across large clusters of commodity hardware. HBase provides real-time random read-write access as well as integration with Hadoop MapReduce, Hive, and Pig for batch analysis. In this talk, Todd will provide an introduction to the capabilities and characteristics of HBase, comparing and contrasting it with traditional database systems. He will also introduce its architecture and data model, and present some example use cases.

There is a fundamental shift underway in IT to include open, software defined, distributed systems like Hadoop. As a result, every Oracle professional should strive to learn these new technologies or risk being left behind. This session is designed specifically for Oracle database professionals so they can better understand SQL on Hadoop and the benefits it brings to the enterprise. Attendees will see how SQL on Hadoop compares to Oracle in areas such as data storage, data ingestion, and SQL processing. Various live demos will provide attendees with a first-hand look at these new world technologies. Presented at Collaborate 18.

With more memory available, system performance of three Dell devices increased, which can translate to a better user experience Conclusion When your system has plenty of RAM to meet your needs, you can efficiently access the applications and data you need to finish projects and to-do lists without sacrificing time and focus. Our test results show that with more memory available, three Dell PCs delivered better performance and took less time to complete the Procyon Office Productivity benchmark. These advantages translate to users being able to complete workflows more quickly and multitask more easily. Whether you need the mobility of the Latitude 5440, the creative capabilities of the Precision 3470, or the high performance of the OptiPlex Tower Plus 7010, configuring your system with more RAM can help keep processes running smoothly, enabling you to do more without compromising performance.

Heather Hedden, Senior Consultant at Enterprise Knowledge, presented “The Role of Taxonomy and Ontology in Semantic Layers” at a webinar hosted by Progress Semaphore on April 16, 2024. Taxonomies at their core enable effective tagging and retrieval of content, and combined with ontologies they extend to the management and understanding of related data. There are even greater benefits of taxonomies and ontologies to enhance your enterprise information architecture when applying them to a semantic layer. A survey by DBP-Institute found that enterprises using a semantic layer see their business outcomes improve by four times, while reducing their data and analytics costs. Extending taxonomies to a semantic layer can be a game-changing solution, allowing you to connect information silos, alleviate knowledge gaps, and derive new insights. Hedden, who specializes in taxonomy design and implementation, presented how the value of taxonomies shouldn’t reside in silos but be integrated with ontologies into a semantic layer. Learn about: - The essence and purpose of taxonomies and ontologies in information and knowledge management; - Advantages of semantic layers leveraging organizational taxonomies; and - Components and approaches to creating a semantic layer, including the integration of taxonomies and ontologies
