4. Parental Involvement in High School? Yes! Substantial evidence exists showing that parent involvement benefits students at every grade level by: Raising their academic achievement. Increased motivation for learning, Improved behavior Improves attendance a more positive attitude about homework and school in general. Again, this works for every grade level!

Research shows that with parental involvement : It empowers you knowing you have parental support Teachers learn more about students’ needs You can apply this information towards better meeting those needs Parents who are involved tend to have a more positive view of teachers This results in improved teacher morale. Teachers benefit as well

Strategies for parental involvement Encourage students to bring parents to open house by offering incentives i.e. Cookies , ice cream, H.W. pass Contact parents unable to attend via email to introduce yourself Be flexible with setting up parent conferences via phone/in person. Not all parents can take off from work @ 2:00 pm Make “good news” phone calls Or send “good news” letters home Encourage them to access school website to stay informed Create assignments where parent input is needed Introduce yourself when you see parents out in town. Make positive comments about their child Handout/Mail the partnership brochure (following slides show a sample of brochure contents)
8. Education is a partnership between home and school. We welcome you to visit our school and meet the staff on Parent Night. In order for this partnership to be effective, we need to be able to communicate If you cannot come to parent night, please feel to call, write a note, or e-mail us if you have concerns or questions about your child’s education Progress reports go home every 3 weeks, to ensure you are aware of your child’s progress. We are always available to schedule a conference to discuss any issue or concern you have regarding your child. Communication
