A Cloud is not a Cotton Ball!
Look up…you’ll see clouds! Have you ever looked up at the daytime sky?  What do you see?  You might see the sun, but you might also see clouds!  Those are not cotton balls, they are clouds!
What is a cloud? What is a cloud?  Clouds are actually water droplets or frozen water droplets in our atmosphere (or sky).   Do you think clouds are pretty to look at?  Some people look up at the clouds to see what they look like?  Have you ever done that?
What do clouds bring? Those are not cotton balls, they are clouds! Have you noticed that clouds are sometimes white and sometimes gray?  When clouds are white, they are harmless.  They are just floating along in the breeze.
What do clouds bring? Those are not cotton balls, they are clouds! However, when clouds are gray, they can be dangerous!  They might bring rain, lightening, thunder, hail, tornadoes, or even snow!  When you see a dark gray cloud, you better get inside where you are safe from storms.
Types of Clouds Those are not cotton balls, they are clouds! There are three types of cloud types.  There are high-level clouds that are high up in the sky.  Next, there are mid-level clouds, which are the middle of the sandwich.  At the very bottom, there is low-level clouds.
Cirrus Clouds Cirrus clouds are high-level clouds.  That means they are high in the sky!  They are thin and wispy clouds.  When you see cirrus clouds, that means it’s going to be a pretty day! Those are not cotton balls, they are clouds!
Cumulus Clouds	 Cumulus clouds look a lot like cotton balls, but they are not cotton balls!  They are mid-level clouds, so they are in the middle of the atmosphere sandwich.    Cumulus clouds could mean that it is fixing to get colder.
Stratus Clouds Those are not cotton balls, they are clouds! Stratus clouds are low to the ground.  They are usually dark gray clouds, which means they bring rain.  If it is cold enough, they could bring snow and ice!
Cumulonimbus Clouds	 There is a special kind of cloud called a cumulonimbus cloud.  They are tall, like a tower, and they tend to bring thunder and lightening.  So, be careful!  Get where it is safe.
Let’s review! Those are not cotton balls, they are clouds!   So, when you look up at the sky, those aren’t cotton balls you are seeing.  They are actually clouds.  Some clouds just make the sky look pretty on a sunny day, like cirrus clouds.  However, some clouds bring rainy days, like stratus clouds.
