Frederick Douglass: Literary Analysis Essays
"Narrative Life of Frederick Douglass: Literary Analysis"
In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Douglass explains, in great detail, how slave
master would use a variety of methods to dehumanize slaves located on their plantation. These
methods involved both severe physical and psychological trauma. Nevertheless, Douglass remains
diligent and finds a way to resist the harsh reality of being a slave. Because of his immovable
desire to acquire knowledge to his fighting encounter with Mr. Covey, these experiences help shape
Douglass to be the archetype of what it means to go from slavery to freedom. This essay will
highlight the physical and psychological tactics used on slaves. In addition, the aspect of how
Douglass resists the...show more content...
Another example of slave master's methods to dehumanize slaves were the living conditions
provided to slaves. Along with the lashings and severe punishment to which slaves were often
subjected, they were also kept half–starved. As Douglass writes, "They [Henrietta and Mary] seldom
knew what it was to eat a full meal." Douglass adds, "I have seen Mary contending with the pigs for
the offal thrown into the street." (pp. 411–412) This reveals how slave masters would not feed slaves
adequate portions of food, which led to many slaves being extremely thin and malnourished.
Knowledge of such despicable acts happening to one's family can only inspire feelings of despise,
disgust and hatred. Douglass, however, used this as fuel to inspire his freedom. Next, the
psychological trauma will be examined, in particular the valuation and division of slaves.
Slaveholders deemed slaves as valuable assets such as clothes, furniture, pigs, and horses which was
how slaves were sold and traded. By this method, slave masters would mentally engrain the message
to slaves that they were not, indeed, human beings, but rather items of personal belongings. As a
result, slaves did not know their self–worth. Another method of psychological distress would be to
divide slaves from their families. In this effort, slaves were both stripped of both their morale and
identity. The very first chapter of Narrative Life of Frederick Douglass proves this assertion.

Children's Behavior Essay
Children's Behavior
What may affect childrens behaviour
Separation from the childs main carer can affect the childs behaviour a lot if they find it hard to
separate from them. If a child cries it is obvious they find it hard to cope with this, trying to distract
the child may help the child to forget about the problem and start to enjoy themselves. The
childrens developmental stage includes how they see themselves and how they are with other
children. If the child finds it hard to share with another child as they may be an only child and
never had to come across sharing before hand, it will be hard for them to understand this. Some of
factors for development are:
*Egocentricity: children...show more content...
This is all due to a change of routine. Children especially with autism find it very hard to cope
with a change, so it is important to let the child know with or with out a disability children still find
it hard to cope with changes. It is also going to affect the childs self–esteem if they're very upset and
not wanting to communicate with anyone new, they will become very emotional through out the
day. From this they become bored and this is when you mainly recognise a change to the childs
behaviour, they might start to misbehave to get attention from staff, they may hurt children or
may even harm themselves. And also if the child faces the loss and grief of a family member the
childs behaviour may change again, as they may see it as their fault, or may wish they had done
more when the person was alive. So it is a very hard time for children when they have to cope with
a change.
What is behaviour =================
The younger the child is, the less they understand about behaviour, so when they reach the age of
about 4 it is important for their main role leader to start telling them about why we do the things
we do. If a child misbehaves and the CW tells them to stop doing it, and if he/she catches them
again they will have a timeout. So if the child does this again it is important for the CW

Rose For Emily
In William Faulkner's short story "A Rose for Emily" the story of an eccentric southern aristocrat
from the view of the community she lives in. the story opens with the death of the main character,
Miss Emily Grierson. Faulkner described Miss Emily's life circumstances through a series of flash
backs. Faulkner explains his story is an example of a person having their hopes and aspirations for
their life dashed over time, and only later to realize how through poor decision making, they have
broken every value and belief they hold, then proceeding to punish themselves indefinitely.
Brooks and Warren begin by approaching the story from the psychological mindset of Miss Emily.
They point out without finding the meaning behind Miss Emily's actions, the story is merely a
story of abnormal psychology. By being able to understand where the motives came from for Miss
Emily's actions the reader is much more able to see that Miss Emily was not just a mentally
disturbed individual with no real cause for her condition. The idea that Miss Emily refuses to submit

Fetterley contends that the story is that of a male dominated past and future, and a woman who is
oppressed and victimized by her society systems. In life, Miss Emily's father had been able to keep
her as a possession and control her life. In his death, the community of Jefferson stepped into that
role. Miss Emily was more considered as an object than a person to most everyone her entire life.
Fetterley points out the real wrong done to Miss Emily was in making her a "Miss". In the act of
making Emily a lady certain characteristics and beliefs are immediately associated with Miss
Emily. It is these beliefs of what a lady is and does that allows Miss Emily to murder Homer with
poison bought at the drug store without so much as a raised eyebrow. The thought of a lady
committing murder never crosses the community's

Children literature Interests and intrigues many critics and adults in various ways, one of the topics
that contrast critics ideology is whether illustration is literature on its own or not? Illustrated books
were not appreciated throughout centuries it became widely accepted with quality and design were it
improved in a unique artistic way. There are three types of books, illustrated book which are pictures
that intensify the book artistically without including anything significant to the real story, secondly
picture books; they include the same information where the words and images complement each
other. Lastly Picturebook as in one word, refer to books with image and words that are

The positive critics perceive that children are sensitive to the visual image; they need to develop a
critical eye to visualize images, so they are able to evaluate the effective communication and
recognizing effective illustration. Moreover, during the centuries quality of illustrated book began to
change, in the past traditional books were used, they were easy to be understood. It did not challenge
a child's mind. As for now, creativity merged throughout the years. As, things like postmodern
picture book came about with features such as; Non linear ,intersexuality, word play, parody,
transgression and destabilization, these features help a child to brighten his/her imagination. Critics
such as William Moebius says 'images cannot–and must not be –looked at in isolation from
surrounding text; images in children books always have context ,and a context ,and a sequence, and
meaning is derived at least in part from their positioning in the text overall and their interaction with
the word'' (William Moebius). William is emphasizing here that images for picture books have a
context, sequence and meaning and words need pictures to support and entertain a child's mind. As,
thrilling imagination tend to drift off with happy, funny and exciting moment keeping their sprit

Essay on Secularization
Secularization
The word secularization is derived from the Latin word saeculum(world) it was first used to refer
the transfer of property from the church to the civil princes. Now it denotes the process by which
religion loses some or all of its power, dominance and authority. Secularization as a concept refers to
the actual historical process whereby this dualist system “ this world'; and the sacramental
structures of mediation between this world and the other world progressively breakdown until the
entire medieval systems of classification disappear, to be replaced by new systems of spatial
structuration of the spheres. The structured division of 'this world'; into two separate spheres, 'the
religious'; and 'the secular'; has...show more content...
Differentiation and secularization of society
To view modern historical transformation from the perspective of secularization means to view
reality from the perspective of religion since the secular as a concept only makes sense relation to
its counterpart, the religious. Weber’s theory of differentiation is a theory of secularization
because it views this differentiation from the perspective of radical clash of each of the sphere.
Protestant Reformation, formation of modern states, growth of modern capitalism and the early
modern scientific revolution. Each of the four developments was one carrier of the process of
secularization. Only the economic development affects the rates of secularization.
Rise of modern science was one of the key developments that brought about secularization. Science
transformed into a scientific worldview, which claimed to have replaced religion the way a new
scientific paradigm replaces an outmoded one.
2. Decline of religion thesis
It states that the process of secularization would bring in its wake the progressive

Superheroes Essay
When you think of a superhero one normally thinks of Spiderman, Batman, or Superman, but there
were superheroes long before these characters were created. First one must understand that the
basis of this name is hero. What is a hero? A hero is a person who does something special or out of
the ordinary in order to help others. It could also be someone who is admired for a characteristic
about them, be it physical or mental. They are individuals that normal everyday people can look up
to. This being the case, a superhero is nothing more then someone who is a hero, but not just that
once and for that one person, but someone who helps many people, or leads them. As time went by
the number of people who were true heroes diminished and just...show more content...
Back towards the beginning of American history we see superheroes arising for the first time in
our culture. They were not necessarily able to fly or see through walls. However, they were still
extraordinary people. Their stories were passed from father to son and the story grew with every
telling. People like Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill were just two of the many tales of the time which
spoke of men doing extraordinary things. These tales wouldn't excite forever, though. As years go
by our country and its people become less and less naГЇve and craved more. A giant man with a blue
ox and an axe just could not suffice. People become more and more numb to pain and murder, and
needed more than these tall tales.
It was soon after this that people began looking for someone else to admire, whether they were real
or not. Someone who they can not overcome. Someone who will lead them and help them be who
they were meant to be. Some look to politicians, others to mob leaders, but either way they are just
looking for answers. This became harder for the youth to find. Sure they had their mothers and
fathers, but they could only do so much for them. Then comic books and television came into play.
Here they could see these seemingly ordinary people doing amazing things. They wanted to be just
like them. It gave them structure and a feeling of guidance. They knew what they wanted to do and
they began trying to do it. Now,

Descriptive Essay About Cooking
Cooking has been my passion since I was a very small child. I remember being too small to really
be in the kitchen, around five or so and looking into the kitchen from the doorway and looking out
at all of the hustle and bustle, my mother and Yaya happily shouting orders in rapid Greek to the
other women who were my aunts and other cousins. I watched them work together to create my
favorite things in my small world. This kitchen in this cozy house on a hill was our heartbeat as a
family. It was our safe haven. I didn't realize it then, but few things will ever mean as much to me as
creating food in that kitchen.
I remember watching as sticky sweet syrup was poured over layers of crisp phyllo that I knew would

of failure and the incredible feeling of victory that creating gives you. I also learned responsibility
that chores can provide. I am so grateful for the lesson my mother and Yaya taught me every day.
But out every early sweet or savory dish, I have ever loved Souvlaki or kabobs the best. They were
my version of chicken nuggets. I ate them directly for the stick it was on, in a pita, or next to
French fries. I loved them and that is what this book is devoted to. I believe that there is a kabob
for everyone and certainly I have never found one that I didn't like. This book will be filled with
great kabob recipes and sauces as well as other delicious sides to complete your meal in a stunningly
delicious fashion.
I want to share with your some of that warm and fuzzy feeling, some of those lessons, and a bit of
the happiness that defined my childhood and life as a whole. With these recipes, you will be
transported to my kitchen. Welcome, It's Great to See You!
A Brief History of the Kabob
The phrase kebab means "skewered meat" in Greek, however, the more common name for kabob is
Souvlaki, meaning skewers. For simplicity's sake, I will be referring to them as kabobs in this
book. This is essentially the only rule for which Kabobs are held to, they should be meat

Descriptive Essay About Autumn
Misty dew covers the entire surface of the field. The yellowing corn stalks stand erect and proud
until my grandpas tractor comes to end their growth. Autumn slowly weaves its way in and leaves
a stain of brilliant color in its wake. Not everyone enjoys such colors, but when you take a second
to step outside your doorstep, and look at all the wonders that surround you, you'd be surprised at
how marvelous the world can truly be. To me, Autumn is a time for relishing in the colors. Soaking
in the oranges and reds while sitting by a warm fire. It's a time for remembering that everything
does end, but it does not have to end in the dreadful way we think it will. Autumn is a time for the
closeness of others to keep out the chill of the morning and the starry–eyed darkness of the night.
The colors are astonishing. No longer does green dwell the trees. It seems the entire world is on
fire. The bright yellow has mingled with the orange to create small flames, flickering from the
branches of trees. They fall to the ground and ignite the earth. It has been said before that fire is
pure and cleans everything it touches. It takes something broken and dead and gives it one last
spurt of beauty. One last goodbye before it leaves forever. The bed of the fire is a deep blue, so
searing it burns any who come near. The heat makes my eyes water and stings my uncovered face.
I want to get as close as possible. To see the embers be swept with the glorious reds and royal blues.
The heat is

Characteristics Of My Family Essay
Family is a truly special thing. Essentially, what makes a family so unique is that unification of a
group of individuals with so many variant characteristics. In fact, each and every one of our unique
relatives, in their own individual way, contributes to that extraordinary bond that families share. Our
blood may define family, but it's those unique relationships: like the one with the controlling
grandmother, that crazy aunt, or even that inappropriately laid back uncle, that genuinely gives
family a special sense of belonging. Every single family has a head, an alpha male or female. This
individual tends to believe the universe revolves around them, and that they resemble absolute
royalty when compared to the rest of the family. In my case, this is my grandma Rosaura. The
fact is, that she is the oldest, most experienced person in our family. Correspondingly, she is
praised by the entire family as well as looked up to for guidance because of her " extensive
knowledge". In fact, she was a very successful lawyer who was able to raise four children by
herself; two characteristics of my grandmother's life which she would never let us forget. Thus,
emphasizing herself as the epitome of what you would call "a woman who don't need no man".
Furthermore, because of her position in the family, she's also developed some very interesting traits
over time. To begin with, she's extremely controlling and authoritarian. My mother is 46 and my
grandma still finds ways to boss her

Essay about Digital Art Technology
Digital Art Technology
Technology is constantly growing and changing our ways of living. It makes life easier at times,
and more interesting too. When one would think of art in the past, usually computers and
technology did not come to mind. Now because of modern technology, the digital age is uncovering
vast ways to create amazing works of art through computer tools and software. Art is now digitally
created and can appear unbelievable to the modern eye.
Digital art technology is in some ways, a form of art that can be constructed on a computer based
template and still portray an artistГ•s rendition but in a mechanical manner. Г’As early as 1912, the
futurists planned moving sculptures driven by machine, in which the...show more content...
Photoshop was a great new technology and contributor for digital art at that time.
Г’Today, computers are found in almost every area of art, though with varying degrees of
success, acceptance, and originality.Г“ (57, Wolf) Classical art is obviously the most widespread
acceptable form of art. Acceptable meaning known; People around the world could tell you
theyГ•ve heard of Michelangelo or Picasso. Classical art and digital art have certain similarities,
but far more differences. Both forms of art begin with the artistГ•s view of an idea or concept.
They both have creative attributes and qualities that are controlled by the artist and viewed by an
audience. Evidently, there is different media used in each form. Where classical artist may use a
paintbrush and a canvas to create a painting, a digital artist would use software like Photoshop
though a computer to create an image. However now, artists can even imitate media like watercolor,
charcoal, markers, and even oil pastels with certain software digitally.
There are two kinds of computer based art that uses the computer as a tool for creating the work.
The two kinds are computer–assisted art and computer–created art. Г’In computer–assisted art, an
application like a paintbox or music program is used in creation of a work. Computer–created art
begins with an algorithm written by the artist, which when run, produces a work, usually with some
element of randomness involved so that

Rainbow Fish Book Analysis
Text: The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister
Grade level equivalent: Pre–K and Kinder
Genre: Picture Book
Synopsis: It is a picture book about a Fish, named Rainbow Fish, who thinks he is too beautiful to
hang out with all the other fish. As a result, Rainbow Fish ends up lonely. At the end,Rainbow Fish
learns that it is better to have friends than to be prideful.
Demands of the Text
Genre/organizational demands: Picture books are books that contain many illustrations, especially
for children. The illustrations are as important (or, in some cases, even more important than) the
words in the story. My students will need to understand that pictures usually add to the text of the
story. They will also need to understand that text represents spoken words. Thus, my students need to
be able to interpret pictures and be able to recognize one–to–one correspondence between a written
word and a spoken word.
Background knowledge demands: For this book, students must know what fish and scales are. They
will also need to know that fish live under the sea.
High–level Thinking about the Text While I amreading this book aloud, I will ask critical thinking
questions, using the upper and lower end of Bloom's Taxonomy. Some of the questions that I will
ask are the following:
1.Can someone describe Rainbow Fish for me?
2.What is one of the descriptive words that the author uses?
3.Why did the author say this?
4.What is going on in this scene?
5.How do someone's character traits affect how they act or what they say?
6.Can someone give me a summary of this story or tell me what it is about?
Lesson Objectives
Textual objective:
During the text–based discussion, the student will discuss what the main character in the story said,
looked like, acted like, and felt like.
Strategy objective:
At the end of this minilesson, the students will be able to identify the 4 different character traits and
give at least 1 example of each with 70 percent accuracy.
PART II: LESSON NARRATIVE

Impact of Social Media on Relationships Essay
Social networking can connect strangers across the world. As the evolution of communication
continues, technology progresses and social networking grows. Social networks like Instagram,
Twitter, and Facebook have grown to have billions of users. In fact in today's society, it is
necessary or nearly expected to use one if not all of these technological communication networks.
The increasing use of social networking has had both a negative and positive effect on
communication in relationships. The purpose of this literary analysis is to answer if social networks
are helpful or harmful to relationships. As social networking evolves, different aspects of
communication suffer. Such as the social penetration theory, which...show more content...
With the expedient process of getting to know someone, relationships can rise and fall much
quicker. Aside from expediting relationships, there is the factor of getting to know someone for
who they really are. In social networks, "the CliffsNotes of a person's life will never give you an
accurate representation of the reality. We create the image that we want to convey through our
activity on social media. It's much easier to convey the "reality" that we want to portray on the
Internet than to live it in real life." (Curry, 2013). People often put the best things about themselves
on their social network; in fact many show the life they wish they had. This can be detrimental to
relationships, because no one is ever transparent or honest. In considering relationships, "the truth is
that the content and character of a person should be revealed in layers. The development of a fruitful
relationship takes effort, and it is impossible to reach a level of depth with a person by meticulously
parsing his Facebook self" (Curry, 2013). Real relationships and depth cannot be established when
merely built online. Throughout the day college students, high school students, middle school
students and increasing number of elementary school students are constantly found on cell phones,
lap tops, ipod, and ipads. They constantly text, email, instant message, instagram, and facebook,

Descriptive Essay On Sculptures
As the sun started to settling down, you walked into a wonderful museum full of figure sculptures to

more deeply inside an exhibition room, suddenly, you notice that you are surrendered by medium
size to large sculptures. One sculpture that is space equally to one an another, but they all have no

what is the sculpture tell you like a story telling. Even the details of the bodies tend to give of a

of nude figure sculptures. In the center were the four main sculptures which is in order from
finest pick from the museum and three from the class room lecture. They are The Lansdown
Athlete, the Roman copy of the Lysippos, and Roman copy after a Greek original by Praxiteles,
Hermes and the Infant Dionysos. From my opinion is that the sculptures are in nude because they
tell us that the sculptures are goddesses or a recreation of a person that is not real. The nude
sculpture is one who is not wearing cloth or less who which it shows our body parts. Most of the
sculptures are made out of stone, marble, and bronze. They are shown in large structure or a human
size. All figures are mostly made in Greek Late Classical to Hellenistic, thus the artist show more
details in human body structures. For

What Is Self Worth Essay
Your self worth is more important than you think, many people don't realize that it is an important
asset to your everyday life. Self–worth, self–esteem, and self–respect are the three things that many
people struggle with. No matter how ugly people can be you have to keep in mind you are as
worthy as anybody else. People criticize one another without realizing the damage that is done to
their piers. I will be showing you some steps that have helped me gain respect for myself. Step 1
is to never compare yourself to anybody else and to love yourself . Step 2 is to surround yourself
with supportive people. Step 3 is to always talk positive about yourself. Step 1 is to never
compare yourself to anybody else to love yourself . Its natural for us to compare ourselves to
others, but it doesn't improve our status, make us a better person, or secure our happiness. In
many cases its does the opposite by making us feel bad about ourselves. For example, i used to
compare myself to other people who were way prettier and thinner than me. Comparing myself to
them wasn't helping me at all it was just bringing myself esteem down, building more of my
insecurities up, just making me be so negative. But i noticed by doing that it wasn't helping me feel
any better about myself it was just doing the opposite. What helped me stop was that i started to
learn how to love my self just the way I am, i realized that every human has their own insecurities.
Loving yourself is very important, do not

The Cat In The Hat Analysis
The Cat in the Hat is a good book for many reasons including how well illustrated and how well
written the book is. Dr. Seuss has been known as a genius when it comes to children's books. He
is very well known and that is one of the reasons why I chose The Cat in the Hat. The Cat in the
Hat is about a cat who tries to make two kids have fun on a rainy day while their mom is away.
There is also a fish who is an antagonist of the story because he is keeping the children from having
fun by constantly reminding them that their mother would not like what was happening in her
house. The Cat in the Hat is a good book for many reasons. Our textbook uses two definitions for
what a good book is. One of them being if the reader likes the book,...show more content...
The illustrations in The Cat in the Hat really show the story and even if this book was a wordless
picture book then children could understand what is going on. I think that goes to show how
much the illustrations really do enforce the text. On the very first page, Dr. Seuss establishes the
setting with a picture of a house and one can assume that is where the story takes place (Seuss 1).
Dr. Seuss uses a lot of visual elements such as lines to show movement and he only uses shades of
blue and red to add color to his book. Something else that I found interesting was the fact that he
used the seam in the book as a corner in the house. On the first page, you see the house with a
window on its side but no door which would presumably be on the left side of the house where the
stairs are. When you open to the second page, you see the children sitting at the window. On pages
five and six you finally see the door appear on a separate page than the window. If you close the
book slightly you can imagine this is a 3–D element to the book. I may be overthinking it but I think
that if this was intentional then Dr. Seuss may have been smarter than people give him credit for.
The Cat in the Hat was published in 1957 during the Age of New Realism (Tunnell 51). The Cat in
the Hat is coined for being introduced as one of the first beginning reader picture books (Tunnell
51). This was a stable time for the publishing of children's books (Tunnell 55). Overall, I

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, normally abbreviated as ADHD, is a disorder in which a
person has trouble paying attention and focusing on tasks, tends to act without thinking and has
trouble sitting still. This condition may begin in early childhood and continue into adulthood.
Without treatment ADHD can cause problems at home, school, work and any social gatherings.
The disorder sparks up many controversies for the simple fact that the exact cause is not clear or
more over not well understood. Because of the lack of information of how ADHD is caused, the
most common controversy that this disorder brings is that many people believe that the disorder is
not a realistic diagnosis because of the increasingly number of children...show more content...
What are the different types of ADHD?
There are three main types of ADHD. They are the primarily inattentive type, primarily
hyperactive–impulsive type and the combined type. A child with the inattentive type fails to pay
attention to details and gets easily distracted and tends to daydream on a day to day basis. On the
other hand the hyperactive–impulsive type makes it hard for the child to stay still for long. Mostly
this child would jump or climb things in inappropriate occasions. The most common type of ADHD
is the combined type. This type is characterized by both impulsive behavior and hyperactivity, and
inattention and distraction.
Causes of ADHD
Scientists are studying causes and risk factors that might contribute to the development of ADHD in
an attempt to better control and reduce the chances of a person having the disorder. Researchers who
study the brain are coming closer to understanding what may cause ADHD. They believe that some
people with ADHD don't have enough of certain chemicals, called neurotransmitter, in the brain.
These chemicals help the brain control behavior. However the exact or precise cause of the disorder

Her quiet demeanor provided members with little formal support, aside from incorporating the
various component into the group meeting such as the twelve steps, readings, and reflections. The
facilitator seemed unaware of the method of assigning group roles. Due to the facilitator's lack of
providing a structured group process, the group members were allowed to take control of the
conversation. At times, the group would have benefited from her participation through addressing
deviant behavior, the monopolizers, and redirecting the conversation when it got off topic.
Additionally, the facilitator reviewed the group guidelines at the beginning of the meeting at a rapid
pace that did not accommodate for inquiries. Transference was observed, based on the strong
attachment the deviant member had to another participant. The deviant member's behavior indicated
that she sought attention and reassurance from another participant. She positioned her body directly
next to the participant, frequently rested her head on the participant's shoulder, and whispered to her

Understanding Internet Addiction

  • 1. Frederick Douglass: Literary Analysis Essays "Narrative Life of Frederick Douglass: Literary Analysis" In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Douglass explains, in great detail, how slave master would use a variety of methods to dehumanize slaves located on their plantation. These methods involved both severe physical and psychological trauma. Nevertheless, Douglass remains diligent and finds a way to resist the harsh reality of being a slave. Because of his immovable desire to acquire knowledge to his fighting encounter with Mr. Covey, these experiences help shape Douglass to be the archetype of what it means to go from slavery to freedom. This essay will highlight the physical and psychological tactics used on slaves. In addition, the aspect of how Douglass resists the...show more content... Another example of slave master's methods to dehumanize slaves were the living conditions provided to slaves. Along with the lashings and severe punishment to which slaves were often subjected, they were also kept half–starved. As Douglass writes, "They [Henrietta and Mary] seldom knew what it was to eat a full meal." Douglass adds, "I have seen Mary contending with the pigs for the offal thrown into the street." (pp. 411–412) This reveals how slave masters would not feed slaves adequate portions of food, which led to many slaves being extremely thin and malnourished. Knowledge of such despicable acts happening to one's family can only inspire feelings of despise, disgust and hatred. Douglass, however, used this as fuel to inspire his freedom. Next, the psychological trauma will be examined, in particular the valuation and division of slaves. Slaveholders deemed slaves as valuable assets such as clothes, furniture, pigs, and horses which was how slaves were sold and traded. By this method, slave masters would mentally engrain the message to slaves that they were not, indeed, human beings, but rather items of personal belongings. As a result, slaves did not know their self–worth. Another method of psychological distress would be to divide slaves from their families. In this effort, slaves were both stripped of both their morale and identity. The very first chapter of Narrative Life of Frederick Douglass proves this assertion. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Children's Behavior Essay Children's Behavior What may affect childrens behaviour Separation from the childs main carer can affect the childs behaviour a lot if they find it hard to separate from them. If a child cries it is obvious they find it hard to cope with this, trying to distract the child may help the child to forget about the problem and start to enjoy themselves. From this they become bored and this is when you mainly recognise a change to the childs behaviour, they might start to misbehave to get attention from staff, they may hurt children or may even harm themselves. And also if the child faces the loss and grief of a family member the childs behaviour may change again, as they may see it as their fault, or may wish they had done more when the person was alive. So it is a very hard time for children when they have to cope with a change. What is behaviour ================= The younger the child is, the less they understand about behaviour, so when they reach the age of about 4 it is important for their main role leader to start telling them about why we do the things we do. If a child misbehaves and the CW tells them to stop doing it, and if he/she catches them again they will have a timeout. So if the child does this again it is important for the CW Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Rose For Emily In William Faulkner's short story "A Rose for Emily" the story of an eccentric southern aristocrat from the view of the community she lives in. the story opens with the death of the main character, Miss Emily Grierson. Faulkner described Miss Emily's life circumstances through a series of flash backs. Faulkner explains his story is an example of a person having their hopes and aspirations for their life dashed over time, and only later to realize how through poor decision making, they have broken every value and belief they hold, then proceeding to punish themselves indefinitely. Brooks and Warren begin by approaching the story from the psychological mindset of Miss Emily. They point out without finding the meaning behind Miss Emily's actions, the story is merely a story of abnormal psychology. First one must understand that the basis of this name is hero. What is a hero? A hero is a person who does something special or out of the ordinary in order to help others. It could also be someone who is admired for a characteristic about them, be it physical or mental. They are individuals that normal everyday people can look up to. Back towards the beginning of American history we see superheroes arising for the first time in our culture. They were not necessarily able to fly or see through walls. However, they were still extraordinary people. Their stories were passed from father to son and the story grew with every telling. People like Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill were just two of the many tales of the time which spoke of men doing extraordinary things. These tales wouldn't excite forever, though. As years go by our country and its people become less and less naГЇve and craved more. A giant man with a blue ox and an axe just could not suffice. People become more and more numb to pain and murder, and needed more than these tall tales. It was soon after this that people began looking for someone else to admire, whether they were real or not. Someone who they can not overcome. Someone who will lead them and help them be who they were meant to be. Some look to politicians, others to mob leaders, but either way they are just looking for answers. This became harder for the youth to find. Sure they had their mothers and fathers, but they could only do so much for them. Then comic books and television came into play. Here they could see these seemingly ordinary people doing amazing things. They wanted to be just like them. It gave them structure and a feeling of guidance. They knew what they wanted to do and they began trying to do it. Now, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I remember being too small to really be in the kitchen, around five or so and looking into the kitchen from the doorway and looking out at all of the hustle and bustle, my mother and Yaya happily shouting orders in rapid Greek to the other women who were my aunts and other cousins. I watched them work together to create my favorite things in my small world. This kitchen in this cozy house on a hill was our heartbeat as a family. It was our safe haven. • 10. Descriptive Essay About Autumn Misty dew covers the entire surface of the field. The yellowing corn stalks stand erect and proud until my grandpas tractor comes to end their growth. Autumn slowly weaves its way in and leaves a stain of brilliant color in its wake. Not everyone enjoys such colors, but when you take a second to step outside your doorstep, and look at all the wonders that surround you, you'd be surprised at how marvelous the world can truly be. To me, Autumn is a time for relishing in the colors. Soaking in the oranges and reds while sitting by a warm fire. It's a time for remembering that everything does end, but it does not have to end in the dreadful way we think it will. Autumn is a time for the closeness of others to keep out the chill of the morning and the starry–eyed darkness of the night. The colors are astonishing. No longer does green dwell the trees. It seems the entire world is on fire. The bright yellow has mingled with the orange to create small flames, flickering from the branches of trees. They fall to the ground and ignite the earth. It has been said before that fire is pure and cleans everything it touches. It takes something broken and dead and gives it one last spurt of beauty. One last goodbye before it leaves forever. The bed of the fire is a deep blue, so searing it burns any who come near. The heat makes my eyes water and stings my uncovered face. I want to get as close as possible. • 11. Characteristics Of My Family Essay Family is a truly special thing. Essentially, what makes a family so unique is that unification of a group of individuals with so many variant characteristics. In fact, each and every one of our unique relatives, in their own individual way, contributes to that extraordinary bond that families share. Our blood may define family, but it's those unique relationships: like the one with the controlling grandmother, that crazy aunt, or even that inappropriately laid back uncle, that genuinely gives family a special sense of belonging. Every single family has a head, an alpha male or female. This individual tends to believe the universe revolves around them, and that they resemble absolute royalty when compared to the rest of the family. In my case, this is my grandma Rosaura. The fact is, that she is the oldest, most experienced person in our family. Correspondingly, she is praised by the entire family as well as looked up to for guidance because of her " extensive knowledge". • 12. Essay about Digital Art Technology Digital Art Technology Technology is constantly growing and changing our ways of living. It makes life easier at times, and more interesting too. When one would think of art in the past, usually computers and technology did not come to mind. Now because of modern technology, the digital age is uncovering vast ways to create amazing works of art through computer tools and software. Art is now digitally created and can appear unbelievable to the modern eye. Digital art technology is in some ways, a form of art that can be constructed on a computer based template and still portray an artistГ•s rendition but in a mechanical manner. Г’As early as 1912, the futurists planned moving sculptures driven by machine, in which the...show more content... Photoshop was a great new technology and contributor for digital art at that time. Г’Today, computers are found in almost every area of art, though with varying degrees of success, acceptance, and originality.Г“ (57, Wolf) Classical art is obviously the most widespread acceptable form of art. Acceptable meaning known; People around the world could tell you theyГ•ve heard of Michelangelo or Picasso. Classical art and digital art have certain similarities, but far more differences. Both forms of art begin with the artistГ•s view of an idea or concept. They both have creative attributes and qualities that are controlled by the artist and viewed by an audience. Evidently, there is different media used in each form. Where classical artist may use a paintbrush and a canvas to create a painting, a digital artist would use software like Photoshop though a computer to create an image. However now, artists can even imitate media like watercolor, charcoal, markers, and even oil pastels with certain software digitally. There are two kinds of computer based art that uses the computer as a tool for creating the work. The two kinds are computer–assisted art and computer–created art. Г’In computer–assisted art, an application like a paintbox or music program is used in creation of a work. Computer–created art begins with an algorithm written by the artist, which when run, produces a work, usually with some element of randomness involved so that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Rainbow Fish Book Analysis Text: The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister Grade level equivalent: Pre–K and Kinder Genre: Picture Book Synopsis: It is a picture book about a Fish, named Rainbow Fish, who thinks he is too beautiful to hang out with all the other fish. As a result, Rainbow Fish ends up lonely. At the end,Rainbow Fish learns that it is better to have friends than to be prideful. Demands of the Text Genre/organizational demands: Picture books are books that contain many illustrations, especially for children. The illustrations are as important (or, in some cases, even more important than) the words in the story. My students will need to understand that pictures usually add to the text of the story. They will also need to understand that text represents spoken words. Thus, my students need to be able to interpret pictures and be able to recognize one–to–one correspondence between a written word and a spoken word. Background knowledge demands: For this book, students must know what fish and scales are. They will also need to know that fish live under the sea. High–level Thinking about the Text While I amreading this book aloud, I will ask critical thinking questions, using the upper and lower end of Bloom's Taxonomy. Some of the questions that I will ask are the following: 1.Can someone describe Rainbow Fish for me? 2.What is one of the descriptive words that the author uses? 3.Why did the author say this? 4.What is going on in this scene? 5.How do someone's character traits affect how they act or what they say? 6.Can someone give me a summary of this story or tell me what it is about? Lesson Objectives Textual objective: During the text–based discussion, the student will discuss what the main character in the story said, looked like, acted like, and felt like. Strategy objective: At the end of this minilesson, the students will be able to identify the 4 different character traits and give at least 1 example of each with 70 percent accuracy. PART II: LESSON NARRATIVE 1.Introduction (Students will sit on the carpet.) Hello, everyone! Today we are going to read a book and do a really fun activity. But before we do that, I would like to quickly go over my expectations with all of you. My expectations are just like

As the evolution of communication continues, technology progresses and social networking grows. Social networks like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook have grown to have billions of users. In fact in today's society, it is necessary or nearly expected to use one if not all of these technological communication networks. The increasing use of social networking has had both a negative and positive effect on communication in relationships. The purpose of this literary analysis is to answer if social networks are helpful or harmful to relationships. As social networking evolves, different aspects of communication suffer. Such as the social penetration theory, which...show more content... With the expedient process of getting to know someone, relationships can rise and fall much quicker. Aside from expediting relationships, there is the factor of getting to know someone for who they really are. In social networks, "the CliffsNotes of a person's life will never give you an accurate representation of the reality. We create the image that we want to convey through our activity on social media. It's much easier to convey the "reality" that we want to portray on the Internet than to live it in real life." (Curry, 2013). People often put the best things about themselves on their social network; in fact many show the life they wish they had. This can be detrimental to relationships, because no one is ever transparent or honest. In considering relationships, "the truth is that the content and character of a person should be revealed in layers. The development of a fruitful relationship takes effort, and it is impossible to reach a level of depth with a person by meticulously parsing his Facebook self" (Curry, 2013). Real relationships and depth cannot be established when merely built online. • 16. Descriptive Essay On Sculptures As the sun started to settling down, you walked into a wonderful museum full of figure sculptures to which the natural spot light shines from the sun hit the wonderful master pieces. Then you walk more deeply inside an exhibition room, suddenly, you notice that you are surrendered by medium size to large sculptures. One sculpture that is space equally to one an another, but they all have no cloth on. As you tend to get closer and closer and the story of the sculptures reveal more details of what is the sculpture tell you like a story telling. Even the details of the bodies tend to give of a more muscle structures. When looking at a stone sign above, you notice that you are in a theme of nude figure sculptures. In the center were the four main sculptures which is in order from finest pick from the museum and three from the class room lecture. They are The Lansdown Athlete, the Roman copy of the Lysippos, and Roman copy after a Greek original by Praxiteles, Hermes and the Infant Dionysos. From my opinion is that the sculptures are in nude because they tell us that the sculptures are goddesses or a recreation of a person that is not real. The nude sculpture is one who is not wearing cloth or less who which it shows our body parts. Most of the sculptures are made out of stone, marble, and bronze. They are shown in large structure or a human size. All figures are mostly made in Greek Late Classical to Hellenistic, thus the artist show more details in human body structures. Self–worth, self–esteem, and self–respect are the three things that many people struggle with. No matter how ugly people can be you have to keep in mind you are as worthy as anybody else. People criticize one another without realizing the damage that is done to their piers. I will be showing you some steps that have helped me gain respect for myself. Step 1 is to never compare yourself to anybody else and to love yourself . Step 2 is to surround yourself with supportive people. Step 3 is to always talk positive about yourself. Step 1 is to never compare yourself to anybody else to love yourself . Its natural for us to compare ourselves to others, but it doesn't improve our status, make us a better person, or secure our happiness. In many cases its does the opposite by making us feel bad about ourselves. For example, i used to compare myself to other people who were way prettier and thinner than me. Comparing myself to them wasn't helping me at all it was just bringing myself esteem down, building more of my insecurities up, just making me be so negative. But i noticed by doing that it wasn't helping me feel any better about myself it was just doing the opposite. What helped me stop was that i started to learn how to love my self just the way I am, i realized that every human has their own insecurities. Loving yourself is very important, do not Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. The Cat In The Hat Analysis The Cat in the Hat is a good book for many reasons including how well illustrated and how well written the book is. Dr. Seuss has been known as a genius when it comes to children's books. He is very well known and that is one of the reasons why I chose The Cat in the Hat. The Cat in the Hat is about a cat who tries to make two kids have fun on a rainy day while their mom is away. There is also a fish who is an antagonist of the story because he is keeping the children from having fun by constantly reminding them that their mother would not like what was happening in her house. The Cat in the Hat is a good book for many reasons. Our textbook uses two definitions for what a good book is. One of them being if the reader likes the book,...show more content... The illustrations in The Cat in the Hat really show the story and even if this book was a wordless picture book then children could understand what is going on. I think that goes to show how much the illustrations really do enforce the text. On the very first page, Dr. Seuss establishes the setting with a picture of a house and one can assume that is where the story takes place (Seuss 1). Dr. Seuss uses a lot of visual elements such as lines to show movement and he only uses shades of blue and red to add color to his book. Something else that I found interesting was the fact that he used the seam in the book as a corner in the house. On the first page, you see the house with a window on its side but no door which would presumably be on the left side of the house where the stairs are. When you open to the second page, you see the children sitting at the window. On pages five and six you finally see the door appear on a separate page than the window. If you close the book slightly you can imagine this is a 3–D element to the book. I may be overthinking it but I think that if this was intentional then Dr. Seuss may have been smarter than people give him credit for. The Cat in the Hat was published in 1957 during the Age of New Realism (Tunnell 51). The Cat in the Hat is coined for being introduced as one of the first beginning reader picture books (Tunnell 51). This was a stable time for the publishing of children's books (Tunnell 55). Overall, I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, normally abbreviated as ADHD, is a disorder in which a person has trouble paying attention and focusing on tasks, tends to act without thinking and has trouble sitting still. This condition may begin in early childhood and continue into adulthood. Without treatment ADHD can cause problems at home, school, work and any social gatherings. The disorder sparks up many controversies for the simple fact that the exact cause is not clear or more over not well understood. Because of the lack of information of how ADHD is caused, the most common controversy that this disorder brings is that many people believe that the disorder is not a realistic diagnosis because of the increasingly number of children...show more content... What are the different types of ADHD? There are three main types of ADHD. They are the primarily inattentive type, primarily hyperactive–impulsive type and the combined type. A child with the inattentive type fails to pay attention to details and gets easily distracted and tends to daydream on a day to day basis. On the other hand the hyperactive–impulsive type makes it hard for the child to stay still for long. Mostly this child would jump or climb things in inappropriate occasions. The most common type of ADHD is the combined type. This type is characterized by both impulsive behavior and hyperactivity, and inattention and distraction. Causes of ADHD Scientists are studying causes and risk factors that might contribute to the development of ADHD in an attempt to better control and reduce the chances of a person having the disorder. Researchers who study the brain are coming closer to understanding what may cause ADHD. They believe that some people with ADHD don't have enough of certain chemicals, called neurotransmitter, in the brain. These chemicals help the brain control behavior. However the exact or precise cause of the disorder remains unknown. Diagnosis When diagnosing ADHD, there is no single test itself that can determine it. Deciding if a child has the disorder is a several step process, which requires the attention of different professionals as well as those surrounding the child on a daily basis.
