1. Stress in the Workplace Essay
Stress in the workplace
Stress in the workplace has become one of the increasingly popular topics of discussion over the
last couple of decades. It has become a major concern among various organizations creating an
impact on the management and operations of the organization. This paper will give a detailed
definition of what stress in the workplace is and the most common causes of stress amongst both
employers and employees. In the midst of investigating the causes of stress, I will give an outline of
what can be done to manage the stress by not only the individual but also by the employers
themselves.
I will also mention the effects of stress to an individual, which can be categorized as short–term
effects both psychological and...show more content...
In the United States, the American Institute of Stress (AIS) has estimated that 40% of the worker
turnover is due to stress and the cost of stress in the workplace has been estimated to be over
$300 billion per year. However, the ability of employers to lower the rate of stress in the workplace
has shown to improve the employee's quality of work and their health (Lee 36).
Causes of stress in the workplace
There are a variety of different causes of stress in the workplace and an ability to identify these as
an employer is important because it will help in knowing how to deal with and correct any
problems arising from it. Most of the stresses are caused when the demands at work become
extreme or excessive. Many of these demands are a direct result of technological advances that have
made work processes easier but on the other hand, require employees to do more tasks. Current
technology demands the workers to constantly perform near peak levels, be competitive and be
cognizant of technological breakthroughs. In some circumstances, the organization fails to inform
the workers about changes in the business or the technology they are using in their systems which
can cause tension and uncertainty. Because of this, the worker can feel a constant fear of losing their
position if they do not work efficiently and understand the new changes in the organization.
Another cause of stress is a change in the workplace environment. As an

Workplace Essential Skills
While working or while looking for work there are certain skills sets that are universally important.
No matter what job or career path you have chosen these skills make it easier to obtain your goals,
whatever they may be.
Workplace essential skills enable people at work to do the tasks required by their occupation, give
them the basics to learn all other skills (job and life) and assist them to manage and adapt to the
changing workplace environment.
They are not the technical skills required by an occupation but are the enabling skills that are
necessary in most occupations and that allow people to do their jobs successfully. (Molson)

3. Essay about My Work Experience
My Work Experience
When I was told that I would be doing my work experience at Belleview nursing home, working
with old sick people I found that it was a very daunting prospect. After my first day there, that had all
changed.
I made my way to work on Monday 6th of June by the service bus at 8.30am to be at my workplace
by 9.00am. The thought of meeting new people and trying to act mature in an environment I was
not sure of scared me. I got to Belleview nursing home and suddenly felt all my worries diminish
within ten minutes of meeting my newfound work colleagues. The matron, Myra Symes, welcomed
me with a smile and made me feel part of the team immediately. I was informed of my duties and

One particular patient, Lizzie, who was 97 and looked very sad, and confused, due to her dementia,
thinking that she was still at home during the war and thought she was a sixteen year old girl. I
thought of how she must have felt, having the mind of a sixteen year old but the body of a ninety
seven year old. She made me feel sad for her but feeling sorry for the patients doesn't help in the
caring profession. Therefore I had to focus on the job I was there to do.
As my week progressed at the nursing home, so did my capabilities I grew more confident in the
tasks I was being asked to perform. I was beginning to feel part of the team. Getting to know my
work mates on a daily basis made me feel that any problems I would be facing with the patients
would be quickly diminished by simply asking for help on anything I wasn't sure of.
I began helping with the bathing, dressing, feeding and aiding them with their toilet needs.
Although the patients were old not all of them were ill, therefore they needed exercise and
showing them exercise videos where we all joined in. This made it a fun time for them, thus
making their day much more bearable. My days here were passing quickly in the workplace as the
patients kept me busy. They all had different and special

ADVANTAGES:
v bring down costs ГЁ lift profits and boost growth v specialisation Due to the advance in

6. The Working Life Essay
The belief that work is morally good is the definition of work ethic provided by The American
Heritage Dictionary. Work can mean different things to different people. Usually, when we first
think of a word and its meaning, we look at its definition. When defining what is morally good, one
must remain open to past societal meanings of what was considered moral. Work ethic has developed
and changed through different cultures over centuries. Historians and philosophers have developed
great insights and theories pertaining specifically to the meaning of work ethic and its
meaningfulness in today's modern employment, while some have praised it and some have cursed
it. Which leads us to the question, do workers today have a calling or...show more content...
Furthermore, people who work for wealth are never satisfied, because the things that they want and
the work that they do to get it are never ending.
Work takes on greater importance in a society where people believe that they can master the
material world and shape their own destinies, and less where they believe that they can not. An
Ancient Greek philosopher said that the only stability in the world was within one's mind or soul,
where ideas were secure from the unending changes that took place in the material world. In Ancient
Greece, philosophers believed that a person's thoughts and ideas were more important than that
person's work and that work in the material world lacked permanence. For the ancient Greeks, the
status of particular occupations depended on the degree of freedom a person had, the perceived
moral integrity of the occupation, and the amount of mental and physical work it required. Today
we tend to feel that working in an office is better than working in a coal mine, regardless of which
worker makes more money. Our language suggests that it is a privilege to work sitting down.
In various cultures in the era before Christ, the material world was thought impermanent and inferior
to the mental and spiritual world, but work was not disdained. The Buddha in the sixth century B.C.
said that people suffer because they thirst for material things and physical pleasures, and that the

7. Team Work Essay
Team Work This about how to work with groups and other team members, most of the time it is
hard to do but with our jobs nowadays we have to do what we have to do. I like working with
others for the most part, especially when they are motivated in getting the job done in a timely
manner. Then we have some that just don't want to help but want everybody else to do their work
for them. Working in groups you will have to know who is who and what they like to do, and then
you can do what it is that has to be done for that group. Group dynamics is when we interact with
all groups involved with the project. (Chapter 1, pg 1 joining together; group theory and group skills

Every decision made within the group becomes a team effort with the goal of producing
maximum results. Most of the times when you try to look up on what a group is suppose to do
most of the time it's not that way. From my own experience I like to just go and see who I'm
working with and what it is that we have to do. I like when a person likes to do their own work
and is not lazy, that's the only time I don't want to work with groups. You can research some times
and hope to find what you are looking for but not always is that what you have to do, because all
you can do is just ask the other people how someone works and if that person is a good candidate
to work with. From personal experience I feel better if I can work with just one or two people.
Working with more than that most of the time for me it doesn't work, because when you have
different personalities then that is when you have conflicts within a group. I know that you will
have to work in a group some of the time, but I think that it is better if you work alone. It also
depends on what the job entitles some do want us to work with others and some don't so it really
doesn't matter to me either way, if I do then I do. When I work with other people at my job we
always have fun in doing our jobs, we like what we do and like to work with everyone. We take
training classes together, and lunch so we can get along. I feel as though if you can get along with
others then you can work in a

Work Experience I absolutely had no idea what I wanted to do for work experience. I had about
three different options, but I always had a negative thoughts. One was to work in a bank of any
sort. Well, the good things were that I think it would be fun and it does make you look smart and
important. The negatives where that, to be totally honest, I was really good at money! I wasn't
that smart in maths and was also a bit careless. I thought that working in a bank would make me
have big responsibilities (like handling money or talking to customers) too big that I couldn't even
handle. There was no way that I was going to go to a bank and make a total klutz of myself. All I

To be honest when I grow up I wanted to be a lawyer. But I'm sure, again, on my first day they
won't let me exactly sort out a case will they? No, I didn't think so. They would make it sound
hard and probably give me papers to read. I know it sounds stupid, but I just want to be a lawyer. I
don't want to sit and study for 5 years in college or university; I just wanted to be a lawyer. I had
been watching too many movies and it's tempting. Movies like, Legally Blonde or similar types,
makes it sound like being a lawyer is fun and no actual hard work is needed. But I knew that was
impossible! Out of my three options, I chose the primary school. My overall experience working
in Carlton Primary School was quite good. I had lots of fun during the week. I never expected it
to be like that. I walked to school and arrive there at 8:30am, feeling nervous. Questions buzzed in
my mind, like what if they don't like me? What if they say I look funny? What if they laugh at my
clothes? You wouldn't expect someone to be fully excited in there first placement would you? I
was excited but had a nervous feeling inside too. But as usual, everything went great! I was
introduced to the children and they all seem to like me, they were a bit quite and shy on my first
day there, but after that, it's like they've known me for years! I worked with children between the

9. Essay About Work
Work can cause many issues with oneself and society. There can be a inner struggle in someone if
they don't like their job. Society can cause the discussion of jobs to become a controversial topic.
In the poems "Lady In The Pink Mustang" by Louise Erdrich, "The Restaurant Business" by James
Tate, and "So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs From Americans" by Jimmy Santiago Baca, the authors use
divisions and conflicts to make readers see a bigger picture.
In the poem "The Lady in the Pink Mustang" by Louise Erdrich the speaker tells the story of a
women in a pink mustang whos job seems to be working as a prostitute. Erdrich wants the readers
to get a sense that the women does not care much for her job but continues to do it. It can be

None of these poems have a hidden meaning and each author had a significant way of showing the
meaning. Erich and Baca follow the template of poetry. Whereas, Tate uses the template of poetry in
story form. In all of these works readers can find that the speakers have an argument. In "The Lady
In The Pink Mustang" the speaker explains in the end that she is not proud of her job but she has
to make a living somehow and until she runs out of money she will do what she has to. In "The
Restaurant Business" Tate parallels to Erdrich by having the restaurant owner pose the argument
that though he works for his own sadness, if he choices to leave the business he loses his seat of
having a title and even though he hates to work that's the only bit of happiness he has left. Lastly
the speaker in Baca's poem constructs a real life argument and turns the whole piece of work in a
political poem by arguing the discussion of jobs in America. All of these works show that work is
hard but it is real and sometimes it is not a realistic job and not everyone will agree with the job title
or job

11. Essay on Workers And Laborers
Workers and Laborers
There are two kinds of people in the work force. There are laborers and there are workers. The
difference between these two types of people is that a worker enjoys his or her job while a laborer
does not. To the laborer, his or her life is almost equivalent to a wage slave. For those laborers, there
only escape is leisure time. This is essentially the opposite of their lives, a time where there is
freedom and compulsion. To the worker, leisure time consist of enough rest so that they can do
their jobs effectively. In the two ways that these two types of people enjoy their free time, how do
we know which person spends their time better? I believe that a worker often spends his of her
leisure time more productively than...show more content...
Franklin. This man was my high school computer science teacher. He enjoyed his job to the
fullest extent. The fact that he could teach us what he had spent so many years doing made him a
happier person. In his leisure time away from teaching, he would spend a portion of it planning
things to make the class more interesting and better for us. He would also take more time to spend
with his family, or go out and have some personal time playing video games at a local arcade. He
also did a lot of the things that he never got a chance to do as student, laboring through school.
Personally, I felt that as a worker that I spent my leisure time more constructively. I had once
worked as a tollbooth worker in a local amusement park. I enjoyed that job and had nothing if
little to say bad about it. I noticed that when I had time off, I took more time to spend it with my
friends. I read more and did the things that I wanted to get to that I previously didn't have time for.
I am presuming that these events occurred because I didn't have to worry about going back to
work the next day. That my next hours of work wouldn't be a personal hell, but rather a place where
I can consider something that I like doing, I get paid for.
As we can see from my personal examples and views, workers spend their leisure time more
productively that a laborer. Since

I went on work experience for a week in June at Natwest Bank in Bakewell. Natwest is part of a
larger organisation called the Royal Bank of Scotland Group. The Royal Bank of Scotland bought
Natwest in March 2000 for ВЈ21 billion which was the biggest take–over in British banking history.
Natwest is a national company and very well known so I felt quite privileged to work for them.
Also the Bakewell branch was of a very high standard of service from the checks they get every

as soon as I arrived.
I think a made a helpful contribution to the bank and always did what I was asked to do without
any hesitation and no complaints. I enjoyed doing every task I was set and especially when I was
set to audit the bank's appearance over the week I was there, by filling in the "Topbox Service" in.
It made me feel as if I was helping the bank and that they trusted me to give me this responsibility. I

В· How the alarms works
В· How to fill in a stationary and printed order form
