2. INTRODUCTION
In this presentation I am going to explore three
different types of people who I believe are part of
my target audience.
The reason why I am adding about my target
audience is because I will need to know when
making decisions for the video, digipak and
advertisement that the target audience will be able
to understand what I have done and can enjoy
what I have created.
If I fail to meet what my target audience wants,
then I will have been unable to help promote the
band and the music video because the audience
does not enjoy or understand what the band is
trying to communicate through their video,
adverts and Digipak.
3. A GENERAL SUMMARY OF MY
TARGET AUDIENCE
•They will enjoy rock music but be able to see the humour when
band’s exaggerate their image and make fun of themselves to create
a meta-narrative.
•They are fans of different forms of comedy such as satire, irony,
cringe-based and surreal comedy
•Between the ages of 16 and 30
•They appreciate how the artist will express themselves through their
videos and would rather constructively criticize what they feel the
artist should do in the future.
•Bands and artists they enjoy include: Tenacious D, Foo Fighters,
Nirvana, Beastie Boys, Meat Loaf, Gorillaz, The Lonely Island, “Weird
Al” Yankovic, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Run The Jewels
4. DAVID
•Aged 19 years old
•Discovering older rock bands, specifically enjoying comedy rock
bands like Tenacious D and The Lonely Island
•Entered University in his first year, hoping to find others with a
similar music taste to him or songs to play at parties without seeming
like he’s weird
•Started drinking in August so that he “was prepared for University”
•Looking to start work at a cool indie coffee shop where he can swap
witty remarks and underground bands to listen to with co-workers
and customers…or anywhere that’s hiring.
•Currently Studying Film-Making, hoping to break into film-making
himself one day.
5. ANNIE
•Annie is 22 Years Old and looking for work
•She Recently finished her course in Audio Production and has moved back in
with her parents till she can find work in the area she studied in, but helping
with the PA system at the school her mother teaches at.
•Starting to believe that the St. Margaret’s school for the deaf is not the best
place for a recommendation, and why does a school for the deaf need a PA
system?
•She listens to a variety of music, from Foo Fighters to Flying Microtonal
Banana but recently has started listening to comedy albums from comedians
like Paul F. Tompkins, Louis CK, Dave Chappelle and Flight of the
Conchords.
•She believes that her friend Bret has an strikingly similar appearance to one
of the singers in Flight of the Conchords, Bret always changes the subject
when she brings it up.
•She has become a massive fan of comedy and wants to hear more bands
take a silly approach to their public image, as well as surreal and satirical
humour in more music videos.
6. BRET
•Recently Moved from the UK to Oregon, after taking up a job as an
IT Technician for an Indie Café, who talk about terrible bands and
make painfully unfunny remarks to the co-workers and customers
•27 Years Old, Feels like he’s almost 40
•He is NOT, and I repeat, NOT in Flight of the Conchords
•His music tastes varies, but mainly listens to rock with bands such
as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters and The Beastie Boys but
really enjoys the rap group “Run The Jewels”
•Wants to be a singer himself, currently plays at different bars, cafes,
clubs and even the streets just to get word of his singing out there
•Really enjoys comedy and loves when bands are aware about their
public image and like to make fun of that image. As well as when
bands create bizarre and weird videos, which he hopes to make one
day.
