Budesonide Capsules (Budez CR Capsules) are used
to treat patients with mild to moderate Crohn’s disease
affecting the ileum and/or the ascending colon. It can also
be used to treat acute attacks.
Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory disease of the bowel.
It mainly affects the small bowel and the first part of the
large bowel and causes symptoms such as stomach pain,
diarrhoea and fever.

Active Ingredient
The active pharmaceutical ingredients
contained in Budez CR capsules is
Budesonide.
Each 3 mg capsule contains 3 mg of
the active ingredient Budesonide.

4. Generic Budesonide Capsules
Recommended Adult Dosage
The recommended dosage of Generic Budesonide
capsules (Budez CR) is given below:
➔Budez CR capsules should be swallowed whole with
water. The recommended daily adult dose of
Budesonide capsules for induction of remission is 9 mg,
administered once daily for up to eight weeks. The
capsules should be taken in the morning before
breakfast.

Contraindications
Budesonide Capsules are contraindicated
in patients with the following conditions:
➔Known hypersensitivity to Budesonide or any
inactive component of this medication.

Side Effects of Budesonide Capsules
The most common side effects of
Budesonide capsules are
headache, respiratory infection,
nausea, back pain, dyspepsia,
dizziness, abdominal pain,
flatulence,vomiting, fatigue, pain
and symptoms of hypercorticism.

Warnings And Precautions
➔Use Budesonide capsules with caution in patients with
infections, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis,
peptic ulcer, glaucoma or cataracts, or with a family history
of diabetes or glaucoma, or with any other condition where
glucocorticosteroids may have unwanted effects.
➔Replacement of systemic glucocorticosteroids with
Budesonide capsules (enteric coated) may unmask
allergies, e.g., rhinitis and eczema, which were previously
controlled by the systemic drug.
➔If treatment with inhibitors of CYP3A4 activity (such as
ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir, indinavir, saquinavir,
erythromycin, etc.) is indicated, reduction of the
Budesonide dose should be considered.

Warnings And Precautions
➔Budesonide, like other corticosteroids, is secreted in
human milk. As the potential for serious adverse reactions
in nursing infants from Budesonide capsules, a decision
should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to
discontinue Budesonide capsules, taking into account the
clinical importance of Budesonide capsules to the mother.
➔When Budesonide oral capsules are used chronically,
systemic glucocorticosteroid effects such as
hypercorticism and adrenal suppression may occur.
➔Reduced liver function affects the elimination of
glucocorticosteroids, and increased systemic availability of
Budesonide oral has been demonstrated in patients with
liver cirrhosis.

Overdose Symptoms
Reports of acute toxicity and/or death following
overdosage of glucocorticosteroids are rare.
Thus, acute overdosage with Budesonide
capsules (Budez CR Capsules), even in
excessive doses, is not expected to be a clinical
problem.

10. Generic Budesonide Capsules
Overdose Treatment
In the event of acute overdosage of
Budesonide oral capsules, no specific
antidote is available.
Treatment consists of immediate
gastric lavage or emesis followed by
supportive and symptomatic therapy.
