2. Introduction
• San Diego-based attorney Terry Chucas has spent nearly 30 years
handling high-conflict child custody and divorce cases at his private
family law practice. Beyond his work in the legal field, Terry Chucas is
involved with two local organizations, the San Diego County Bar
Association and the YMCA.
For two decades, the San Diego YMCA has delivered programming to
help youth who are homeless escape the cycle of poverty. Its initiative
From the Streets to Safety provides wraparound services that address
job training, employment, economic self-sufficiency, and emotional
support. In the past year, more than 200 young people have benefited
from the program.
In 2019, the YMCA launched a capital campaign to develop a residential
complex to house 44 youth transitioning out of homelessness. While the
organization has secured an apartment building in a city in North San
Diego County and more than $4 million dollars, another $2.4 million is
needed to complete the purchase and renovate the building. The YMCA
is currently soliciting funding from individuals and major donors.
