Ask students to watch and listen carefully to the lyric.
Get feedback from students – what do they hear, whether
they understand the lyric, whether they can hear the lyric
clearly, and get them to be aware of the importance of
correct pronunciation.

- Lecturer guide students to use phonetic symbols
in order to pronounce the word.
INPUT SESSION
5. INSTRUCTION
1. Get into a group of 4 – 5 members.
2. Each group will get a box containing cards of phonetic
symbols.
3. Each student will take turn to pick one card at a time and
identify the sound. (students can refer to the dictionary –
promote self learning)
4. If any of the group members pronounce the symbol
incorrect, others should help him/her. (peer correction)
ACTIVITY 1
6. INSTRUCTION
1. Form 3 groups. (G1, G2, G3)
2. Lecturer stress on 3 selected phonetic symbols. For
example;

3. Lecturer decide (for e.g.) G1 - /t/, G2 - /θ/ and G3 - /ð/
4. A student from G1 will say out loud word that has the /t/
sound. Then, he/she will have the authority to point to
other group.
ACTIVITY 2
7. 5. Repeat the same process. The winner goes to
the group that has the least/ no mistake.
6. Note to the lecturer;
• Make sure there is no repetition of words
• Make sure all students participate
8. INSTRUCTION
1. Work in groups of 3 – 4 members.
2. Each group will get one handout containing crossword
puzzle.
3. Make sure all dictionaries (pronunciation and phonetic
symbols) are kept away from the students.
ONLY THE LECTURER WILL HAVE A LAMINATED
PAPER CONTAINING PRONUNCIATION AND
PHONETIC SYMBOLS.
4. If the students need to refer to the dictionary one group
representative will have to come/ run to the lecturer in
order to check the sounds.

9. 5. They have to complete the puzzle by articulating the
words based on phonetic symbols.
6. The first group that finishes the Crossword puzzle
correctly will be the winner.
