2. Known to swell to hundred times their original sizes,
water absorbing beads have gained popularity
particularly in decoration. They are known by several
names which includes Orbeez, water crystals or peals
and gel beads. These beads are made of polymer
crystals that have great absorbing properties. With this
property, this polymer is used in the area of decoration
and manufacture of disposable diapers.
3. From the store shelves, the crystals are completely dry
and are so tiny and hard. The danger of letting them
loose when not ready is that they roll all over, resulting
in an extra work. When ready, put them in a soaking
container for between four to eight hours to achieve
maximum size.
4. Once the maximum size is reached, the extra wetness is
strained by the use of a strainer. When carefully handle,
they can last for months, as long as care is taken to avoid
hitting them on hard surface as they can break. Water
evaporates from them making them reduce in size, in
order to increase their size you need to put them in
water container again. If the idea is to reduce their size,
they are dried and strained backed to their original size
and then bagged for later use.
5. Be it in bowls, vases or jars the result is usually an eye
catching piece for decorations. It is for this reason that
you will see them in weddings and other events of this
nature. They are known to add that wow factor
transforming ordinary bowls and vases to something
amazing.
6. Their common use is decoration where they produce
bowls, jars and vases of different colors, sizes and
shapes. They add that wow factor in any ordinary event
to an extraordinary one. This produces amazing results
enough to impress everybody in that event.
7. The other area of use is in the manufacture of baby
diapers where they produce much thinner, lighter and
yet highly effective diapers. They are actually referred to
us super absorbent due to their great properties. In
sewerage plants, they help in trapping and suspending
most of the solid particles making their removal much
easier. Other industries that use these crystals include
ore processing, plants dealing paper and textiles, soil
conditioning, in manufacturing of dyes, adhesives,
fabrics such as permanent press and many other uses.
8. They make good coolants on a hot day. You just need to
wrap a few of these crystals on a bandana, let them soak
and swell and then cool them in a freezer for fifteen
minutes and you have a great chill. They are sewn to a
pouch in some cloths. When soaked for a few hours,
they will swell up. This forms a moist evaporative
cooling cloth that works well for bicyclists, motorcyclists
and construction workers.
9. Water absorbing beads are the best for decorations.
With many colors and different sizes, you have the
power to turn your event to a memorable one. Some
scented oils to soaking liquid used will take the effect a
little further. In this way, the air will smell great in
addition to the fabulous look.
