4. Primary Research - Robotics
Robots find its application in areas where
accuracy and consistency are critical to the
job process.
Industrial robots are used in industries
where repetitive monotonous tasks need to
be done on a daily basis and in sectors that
need to deal with harsh working
environments.

5. Industry Overview - Robotics
By 2015, the global robotics industry is estimated to be worth $17.6 billion with
the Indian robotics industry worth approximately $750 million and is expected to
double over the next three to four years.
It is said widely that everybody who is consuming computing technology will want
to consume robotics technology in some way in the coming decades.
Indian industries have realized the importance of industrial robots, and are willing
to make substantial investments, as the cost of skilled labour is rising, and
production processes are getting speeded up without compromising quality
standards.
It was noted in 2008 and 2009 that reduced manufacturing activities and declines
in industrial production, temporarily derailed the immediate need and
requirement for new industrial robotic products and equipment. This clearly
indicates the sensitivity of the robotics industry to the health of the automotive,
consumer goods, semi-conductor and electronics, and rubber and plastic
industries.

6. Industry Overview – Solar Cooker
• RNCOS, market research and information analysis
company, in its recent report titled, “Indian Solar
Energy Market Outlook 2012”, studies the latest
trends in the industry by utilizing inputs from the
state and central regulatory background of the
country. According to the report, the solar cookers in
India will witness a Compound Annual Growth Rate
(CAGR) of 6% in 2010-2013. The report quotes that
the Solar Cookers International has rated India as the
foremost country with abundant solar cooking
potential.

9. SWOT Analysis – LED Lighting Systems
Strengths: Weakness:
> More expensive(1 led = 3times price of CFL)
> Cost Effective
> Environment friendly Technology
> Use less energy(lower Watt: Eg 1 LED uses
10W & 1 > LED tubelight(20W) compared to
CFL(60 W) and tubelights(100W))—less than
half
> Mostly use solar energy
> Higher life(eg: Life of 1 LED 10 yrs where as
life of 1 CFL 1 yr)
Opportunity: Threats:
> The LED torch can replace current torch and is > Unless govt provides subsidy for Solar energy,
more effective and also multipurpose(can b used its commercialization is a litle difficult and costly
as table light also) > It takes time for people to adapt and start using
> LED lights/fans can be used where electricity is new technolgy
not there now as it will be supported by small (eg: some people still use incandescent lamps
solar panels which can be fitted on their roofs even though CFLs are more efficient and
commercial)

10. SWOT Analysis – Solar Cooker
Strengths: Weakness:
> Environment friendly > Expensive
Technology; uses solar energy > Takes 3 hours to make simple
> Foldable food such as dal-rice
> Easy to carry while traveling
> Made of cloth; so light weight &
easy to clean
Opportunity: Threats:
> Great for travelers > Very few people prefer to carry
> Foldable and made of cloth; so cooking equipment while
will attract people who are travelling
currently using bulky wooden
solar cookers

11. SWOT Analysis - Robotics
Strengths: Weakness:
> Lower price by giving only certain > Sensors can send some particular
parts of the robot body(like only objects and not all things around
hands for bottling industry for them
putting caps on the bottle)
> Has sensors; so will be able to
sense the product around it
Opportunity: Threat:
> Can be used in industry where > Robotics technology is more
working condition are not good expensive than manual labour;
enough for human health labour-rich economies like India
might be hesitant in adopting this
technology

12. The Way Forward for Robotics
There is a need to create awareness among the users and
consumers of this technology
Policy support from the government is also needed to provide an
impetus to the industry
Being an agricultural nation, India has vast opportunities in
automating agricultural related activities
Industry is facing manpower shortage in the robotics and
automation industry due to lack of specialized studies in the
domain.
Absence of concrete robotics standards are often sensed as
hindrance to the growth.
Since the Indian demand for robotics is contingent on the
manufacturing sector, it is important to keep overseas customers.

13. The Way Forward for PV LEDs - Cooker
Technology improvements are needed in a lot of areas. For eg. Solar
system mounting should be designed to tolerate the shock and
vibration that is normally encountered in roadway and area lighting
applications, especially on bridges.
The DOE Federal Energy Management Program Greening
Guidebook recommends PV lighting be considered for remote sites
not yet served by power lines, and for locations that require low
levels of light and that are more than 50 feet from a power sources
(e.g., signs and bus shelter lights). Similar policies are needed to be
implemented globally
LED products can be widely used in landscape lighting, security
lighting, special lighting and general lighting and other areas, the
market potential for which is tremendous. The right customers
need to be targeted.

Go Green Tip :
Consider telecommuting if you live far from your work.
Or move closer. Even if this means paying more rent, it could save you
money in the long term.
