2. What are Instructions?
• Instructions are
words that tell us how
to do different things.
• Instructions can be
for something as
small as “how to
brush your teeth”
• Or they can be for
something as big as
“how to build an
actual space ship”.

3. Simple Instructions
• Let’s see how we can do this. First, everyone
please stand up.

4. Clap Your Hands
• Then, everyone please put your hands together
and clap!

5. Raise Your Hands
• Next, everyone please raise your hands as high
as you can.

6. Our First Instructions!
• Now, please put your hands down and sit down.
• We have just made up our first instructions and
followed them!

7. Waking Up in the Morning
• What do you do from the time you wake up to
the time you come to school in the morning?
Can you tell the list of things you do?

8. How To Do A Simple Job?
• Can anyone tell how to wash your face?
• Can you make a list of things you have to do to
wash your face?

9. How to Wash your Face
• First, go to the wash basin.
• Then, turn on the tap.
• Next, hold your hands under the water.
• Then, splash some water on your face and rub it
with your hands.
• Now, turn off the tap.
• Finally, take a towel
and wipe your face.

10. Again…
• Let’s go over that one more time…
• How do we wash our face?

11. Simple Instructions
• This is how we write simple steps or
instructions.
• What if we wanted to something more? What if
we wanted to wash our face with soap?

12. How to Wash with Soap
• First, go to the wash basin.
• Then, turn on the tap.
• Next, hold your hands under the water.
• Then, take the soap and rub it on your hands.
• Now, put the soap back.
• Next, rub your face with your soapy hands.

13. How to Wash with Soap
• Then, splash some water on your face and rub it
with your hands.
• Make sure all the soap is gone.
• Now, turn off the tap.
• Finally, take a towel and wipe your face.

15. Can We Change the Steps?
• What if we wiped our face with towel first?
• First, take a towel and wipe your face.
• Then, turn on the tap.
That makes no sense … “When” you do a thing in
your list of things to do sometimes makes a
difference!

16. Can We Change the Steps?
• What if we turned off the tap after we wiped our
face?
• That is still OK, because we did manage to wash
our face!

17. What Did We Learn?
• Instructions tell us how to do something.
• Instructions can be for something small like
washing your face.
• Instructions can be changed.
• Order of instructions can be important
sometimes.
