Managing the 1:1 Classroom
• Please put your iPads facedown
• Place your laptop screens in a 45 degree
angle.
Planning
• Create constructionist, inquiry-based activities
and share what students discover
• Classes should become more student-centered
• Make sure to differentiate tasks
• Each student should have an assigned role in
group activities
• Use timers so students stay focused
• Make sure desks are in rows if iPads are used for
tests or quizzes
• Make sure to have back-up plans in place.
Setting Expectations
• Set clear expectations on how and when
students are to use their iPads appropriately
• Manage students and their behavior
– Would you take away their pencils and notebooks
for the similar offences?
• Teach responsibility to students
– Explain why certain behaviors are inappropriate
• Move around the room
• Avoid any downtime if possible
Experiment
• Test drive any new apps and provide feedback
on its instructional usefulness.
– Can anyone say Math Bingo?
• Put the iPads away sometimes
• Explore incorporating gaming into your lesson
plans as you become more experienced
• Use small amounts of free play as an incentive
to completing assignments in a timely manner
