Telecare receives calls from people of all ages who
need someone to talk to about:
• relationships
• jobs and finances
• grief and loss
• loneliness
• stress
• depression and suicidal feelings
• sexuality
• physical and emotional health
• alcohol and drugs
4. WHY VOLUNTEER?
You will gain:
• Training in active listening
• Training in dealing with emergency situations
• Skills that are transferable to your personal life (home, work,
school)
• The opportunity for you to make a difference
• The satisfaction of providing emotional support
• The experience of being part of a caring, supportive team
5. VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
• Complete 50 hours of interactive training
($50 fee, subsidies available)
• Commit to one 4-hour shift every two weeks
• Emotional maturity and reliability
• Provide a police check and 2 personal references
6. TRAINING
Interactive presentations, role-playing and discussions
with speakers from various local agencies preparing
volunteers to handle situations related to:
• Mental illness
• Poverty
• Grief
• Depression
• Abuse
• Addictions
• Suicide
