Guess what? I haven’t brought a movie but you are going to see just a small part of a famous serie to explain the grammar!! But just 20 minutes!

Past Continuous vs. Simple Past We use the past continuous to describe an ongoing action in the past. E.g. ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

The simple past is a shorter complete action. It takes place at one moment and interrumps the ongoing action. E.g. ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],his parents got home. when he almost ran over Clark. when Mr. White arrived to their home. his doctor talked with him. she met Mr. White. when she arrived to her office. when Lanna told about he problem in the cafeteria. when Lex asked him to leave the town. the tractor fell from the sky.

Past Perfect We use the past perfect when we wish to stress that one action or situation in the past occurred before another action or situation in the past. This tense is formed using two components: the verb HAVE (in the past tense), and the past participle form of a verb. Subject Auxiliar have (past tense) Verb in past participle I had arrived You had gone He had visited They had eaten

Using the past perfect The past perfect is used to show you which of two events happened first. Imagine that two things happened in the past, example: I went to see the movie. We discussed the movie in class. Here, we don’t know which order the events happened in. That may be important, perhaps I went to see the movie after the discussion , or maybe I saw the movie before the discussion. There are many ways to make this sequence clear, and the past perfect is one of them. This is how we do it: I went to see the movie. We had discussed it in class. We discussed the movie, and then I went to see it. This can be very useful when you are telling a story or relating a sequence of events.
