recently Chris served as Sr. VP of Operations for Horizon Bay Senior Communities based in

Director of Campus Dining Operations and Executive Chef. Chris has managed and directed

Experience: Todd has over 12 years experience in senior housing. After graduating
from UGA, Todd along with his family built their first assisted living facility in 1994.
Todd led this project, leading and managing all the start-up support including market
and financial analysis, financing, architectural planning, construction management and
pre-opening sales. Todd spent the next 7 years as owner/operator focusing on Human
Resources, State and Federal Regulatory Compliance and a successful expansion of the
community in 1999. It was during this time that Todd developed proprietary software
for care level management and revenue capture.

River Oaks Place, Loudon was originally constructed in 1939 as the Loudon County
Hospital and named after the legendary Loudon businessman and philanthropist, Col.
Charles H. Bacon. We purchased the three story brick building and have totally
renovated the property with 40 suites.

Lakewood Place is our newest senior adult community and is located next door to
River Oaks Place in Loudon. We have thirty-four spacious assisted living units and an
activity center second to none. A wellness center and on-site physical therapy help our
residents maintain their independence and health. The expansive common areas,
dining room, and sunrooms are complemented by oversized private suites.

The BBQ Doctor

The Power of the Pig
At the start of 2010 we began to look for a new way to
market. We strived to find something that was different,
would make for good discussion, and something that
would be memorable.

During one of our partner meetings Todd ask me “what
would you like to accomplish this year?” Without much
hesitation I simply said “I would like to compete on the
professional BBQ circuit.” Within several minutes we
had located a pit and come up with a plan to get more
information.

The pit was ordered, which took about 5 weeks to be
built, and during that time we decided there was no
better practice we could get than to cook for our
communities. We consulted our graphic designer who knew our company and business
well and he came up with our team name of The BBQ Doctor. During April and May we
cooked for open houses, health fairs and family gatherings at many of our communities. It
was obvious that what we had hit on was a common connection to BBQ. Many of our
residents and family members had stories to tell about family reunions, church barbeques,
raising hogs, good bacon, sausage, ribs, hams and of course butts.

We cooked ribs, Boston butts, chickens and brats. People just raved about the pork and
many times I can scarcely just get my foot in the door until someone asks if I brought the
pit. When are we going to have ribs again? When are we going to cook again? If we had
the time we could easily schedule an event a week.

Now that we have had some time and competed in several events I can tell that our BBQ is
so much better today than what we cooked just a few months ago. We have not scored “in
the money” yet but we have been in the top 10 or 5 of every contest we have competed.
We have our logo mounted nicely on either side of the pit and people ask us frequently
where the restaurant is. We tell them you can only get our BBQ at a Senior Solutions
community.

We have the inside story of The BBQ Doctor on our website and we have had more
feedback from that section then we ever expected. That pig is mighty powerful. It can
make for great conversation, fond memories and satisfy a big hunger. You can see our

                         • Net Operating Income up 7.4% in 2004 over same period of 2003.

                         • $121 million in total revenue

                         Community Service Fee capture 2003 to 2004 increased by 96.9%

                         My teams’ responsibilities included pre-opening sales, opening and post opening ramp up to
                         normal operating standards. Denver, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Houston, San
                         Jose, and Seattle were the markets in which the communities were built and under our direction.
                         The total unit capacity equaled 875 apartments with a total real estate and build out value of $96
                         million.

  • 10. W W W . S S M G R P . C O M The BBQ Doctor The Power of the Pig At the start of 2010 we began to look for a new way to market. We strived to find something that was different, would make for good discussion, and something that would be memorable. During one of our partner meetings Todd ask me “what would you like to accomplish this year?” Without much hesitation I simply said “I would like to compete on the professional BBQ circuit.” Within several minutes we had located a pit and come up with a plan to get more information. The pit was ordered, which took about 5 weeks to be built, and during that time we decided there was no better practice we could get than to cook for our communities. We consulted our graphic designer who knew our company and business well and he came up with our team name of The BBQ Doctor. During April and May we cooked for open houses, health fairs and family gatherings at many of our communities. It was obvious that what we had hit on was a common connection to BBQ. Many of our residents and family members had stories to tell about family reunions, church barbeques, raising hogs, good bacon, sausage, ribs, hams and of course butts. We cooked ribs, Boston butts, chickens and brats. People just raved about the pork and many times I can scarcely just get my foot in the door until someone asks if I brought the pit. When are we going to have ribs again? When are we going to cook again? If we had the time we could easily schedule an event a week. Now that we have had some time and competed in several events I can tell that our BBQ is so much better today than what we cooked just a few months ago. We have not scored “in the money” yet but we have been in the top 10 or 5 of every contest we have competed. We have our logo mounted nicely on either side of the pit and people ask us frequently where the restaurant is. We tell them you can only get our BBQ at a Senior Solutions community. We have the inside story of The BBQ Doctor on our website and we have had more feedback from that section then we ever expected. That pig is mighty powerful. It can make for great conversation, fond memories and satisfy a big hunger.
