4. 19th March 1941 Winston Churchill is Prime Minister. World War II is still raging. 5 days earlier 48,000 people had been made homeless in the Clydebank blitz. Butter, sugar, eggs, bacon, jam and cheese are all rationed. Glen Miller, The Andrews Sisters, Billie Holiday and Jimmie Dorsey are all in the charts. The average house price is £500!!!
10. We searched high and low for photos from Bill’s formative years but they must be very well hidden. We can only assume the teenage years were filled with education and fresh air and fast forward to the debauched lifestyle of an art school student……

23. To make himself distinguishable from the pupils, Bill grew a moustache. Almost 50 years later he still teaches an evening class in the same room.
