Q6.1
1. What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing the product?

2. • Overall I have particularly enjoyed learning new skills of the camera and gaining knowledge of
using Final Cut Express, Text Live and Garage Band. Final Cut is defiantly a software I want to learn
more about as its so famous and wanted to gain experience of producing and editing my own
opening, seeing the outcome at the end. These software's really helped develop my skills for the
future which has been extremely helpful.

3. • Throughout the process of editing, the limitations I encountered was:
- Final Cut Express did ‘unexpectedly close’ several times which was stressful
- When we began to record the voice over, when we did end up recording it, the file would not
save meaning we have to constantly keep re-trying.
- When editing we notice a continuity error which it was too late in the editing process to re-
film, however, it did take some time but I manage to flip the scene.
- One main limitation we encountered was rendering and lack of space problems as this wasted
a lot of relevant time which we could have spend on other aspects on the opening.
- We uploaded our opening quite late onto YouTube, therefore, we suffered from not receiving
high amounts of feedback
• Even though we did have limitations, I believe we learnt from these significantly and have
learnt from our mistakes for the future and next years productions which will come in very
helpful.
5. Now we have finished filming, I can clearly see what I would do, if I could re-create my opening.
Firstly, I would have got the filming process done much earlier within the 10 week period then we
originally did and begin editing as soon as possible as this is the most important concept of this
process. Therefore, when editing there is a continuity error which is very noticeable to the
audience. Which if we had more editing time, we would have been able to resolve this. I did
manage to flip this scene, however, when uploaded to YouTube, the original scene did not flip and
still showed the continuity error. Knowing this, I would have taken more time and thought more
about the camera angles and movements when filming which I think is something we should have
considered more when filming.
6. • Also in the future, I realised that in our opening there are a lot of uses of zoom, which was
unexpected when we put the film together. In the future I think we need to think more
carefully about camera angles and movements and structure it more, so we vary our camera
angles more.
• On of the audiences criticism was that we should place the title at the end of the opening as
its more dramatic and is something which is usually done in many famous films. We did agree
with this and took all improves on board.
• In addition, we intended to get multiple shots of one scene, so we had a more variety of clips
when editing.
7. During the process of making my opening, we used several types of software's and hardware sites
to be versatile and have a variation:
• Final Cut Express HD – used to edit our film and produce the voice over
• Live Text – used to make the credits
• YouTube – the software we uploaded our video too and also watched many related movie
openings for research
• Scribd – used for planning and research
• Voki - used for planning and research
• Slideshare - used for planning and research
• Prezi - used for planning and research
• Voicethread - used for planning and research
• Blogger - used for planning and research
• Pixlr.com – used to create the institutional logo and animatics
• Photoshop - used to create the institutional logo and animatics
Each software I used has made a huge impact on my overall blog which I am very pleased with. I
like how I can use my creativity to visually produce my work.
8. • When editing I realised that a lot of hard work and determination had to be put through into
making a film, which is something I admired.
• When watching my final piece – ‘The Black Apple’ I realised all the planning and researching put
into this has exceedingly helped with the overall performance as you have to consider every
single detail, for example, music, credits, age rating etc. However, doing this was really fun as it
was seeing a new insight and overview of what professional movies go through to get a the
overall piece.
