1. Wherever Allah -سبحانهوتعالى- plants you, be fruitful.
اَمُثْيَحََكَعَرَزَُللاَْرِمْثَأ.
I saw this plant today, which didn’talways look this good, and the following verse came to
mind:
﴾ Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and
the day are signs for those of understanding. ﴿ [Aal -‘Imraan: 190]
And Sufyaan Ibn-Uyyaynah رحمهللا would have used the following poetic verseto illustrate
such contemplation:
“In everything that a man contemplates, there is a lesson; an example; a ةَرْبِ”ع
All of us may be able to relate to the story of this plant at some points in our lives.
2. So, once upon a time, my parent had boughta ‘clearance’ item; a small, not so full of life
plant, which they later decided to gift/entrustto me. I couldn’texactly say ‘no’, as it had
travelled and endured a wobbly one-hour journey on the motorway.
I’mnot good at caring for plants. Therefore, I wasn’tecstatic. It was already troubled and
seemed to have lost its life, but we adopted it and tried, probably not the best, we could.
Itneeded someextra attention. However, I never seemed to get around to adding more
soil, or repotting it into a bigger pot. Or maybe deep down, a part of me was thinking ‘if it
shrivelled up completely, then maybe its time was up’. If my parent did not keep checking
on it ‘every time’ they visited, then maybe it would’vebeen easier to give up.
This winter, I thought it’s The End. But seeing it after a week’s absence, and to my surprise,
I found that it has grown taller, greener and more lustrous than I’veever seen!
I felt so remorseful of my shortcomings, despitewhich the little plant was so determined to
survive(with Allah’s will). Itsurpassed allexpectations, overcame many undesirable
circumstances, and bloomed with a new lease of life!
The moral of the story is that me or you can find ourselves in the place of this little plant; in
a situation or in circumstances that go againstthe odds of survival, never mind progress!
Sometimes it could very well be that the ones whosecareyou’reentrusted into neglect
their duty, or feel helpless in their own sense.
Occasionally, however, we may have a subtle glimmer of hope; for the plant, it was my
parent, and in our case, it is Allah swt- وهللالمثلاْلعلى - who is always there for us, waiting for
us to find Him - جلفيعَله - in every situation; whether it’s with patience and perseverance
during the stormy days, or gratitude and increased obedience during the sunshine.
This little plant teaches us to push through, regardless of people neglecting our needs, or
circumstances looking bleak.
May Allah -سبحانهوتعالى- help us in every moment and situation, to find Him جلجَلله and
recognisethe Path towards Him, come rain or shine.
May every day become a step closer to Him, and deeper in His love.
آمينياربالعالمين
