Next Generation IP networks will drive 4 stages of market transformation

Utility data - Affordable, hi-speed, everywhere VoIP - Voice and data convergence
• Broadband penetration – evolving to FTTC? • Drives network consolidation/convergence
• Migration to higher speed ethernet • Convergence already in the LAN (IP-PBX)
• All-IP networks support data convergence • Convergence beginning in the WAN (SIP)
(e.g. integration of b’band, FTTC, ethernet) • Possibly the next major market disruption

Cloud - IT & Telecoms Convergence Mobility - Fixed and Mobile Convergence
• Cloud now practical due to “utility” networks • Convergence exists in places at CPE level –
• Virtual computing & mobility drives cloud wireless computing, PBX mobile clients
• CPE is migrating to the network; drives solution & • BYOD Smart-phone user “rebellion” - may also
support simplification & cost red. ultimately drive FMS & IP replacement of TDM
Four Steps to operational & cost efficiency

                                           Mobilise your workforce with
                                         UC&C tools on wireless devices
                                         - Improve operational efficiency

                            TRANSFORM ICT systems using
                            Cloud and hosted technologies.
                                  - Better ICT for less

                 CONVERGE voice, data & internet

TalkTalk EFM is an efficient use of existing, proven infrastructure.
It uses multiple bonded copper pairs to deliver an Ethernet service.
FTTC Product Overview
• Mini DSLAMs are installed near to or into existing street cabinets
• Fibre connects new DSLAM cabinet to the exchange
• Voice and data transmit over copper to the cabinet
• Data travels over Fibre to the exchange – voice travels over copper

• Increased possible speeds as DSLAM is closer to CPE
• Reduced susceptibility to electrical interference

  1. Businesses will not deliver their ICT vision without a planWe’ve spent several years working with partners and end-users on the migration to next-generation ICT solutions and I have a rough formula to propose to you1. Migrate to the NGN2. Converge services on the NGN – voice, data and internet3. Transform ICT with the Cloud and Hosted – hosted solutions offer different operational and cost models4. Mobilise the workforce with UC&C services – needs fixed and wireless infrastructures to work together
  2. We recognized businesses will go through these steps roughly in order and we have been building our product sets focusing on the most urgent prioritiesBuilding a next-gen network solution was the first…We’re now adding voice over IP solutions to drive convergenceBut now we’ve responded to the rapid growth of smart-phones by accelerating our developments in data centre and hosted services and wireless and mobile servicesStarted building NG data centre infrastructure – connect to the NGNProviding wireless and mobile interconnectivity is key – key to supporting today’s increasingly mobile workforce and for a lot more than calls & email
  3. Before we look at what is in a next generation network solution let me first comment on the important of the core networkIn the past network solutions tended to be a hybrid of different networks each part-meeting the needs for speed, coverage, cost-effectiveness and capability.Today these compromises need not be made.A well-designed and properly invested-in network will meet all of these networks and provide the flexibility in connection types to support diverse and changing networking needsToday we can support over 90% of the population with a range of connectivity services and over these services we can build the kind of converges services platforms that modern businesses need
  4. So what solutions are customers demanding today?Well many and varied. It’s easier to talk about the components we’ve built that can form part of the solution
  5. A seemingly paradoxical shift is taking place within UK businesses – and connectivity is key. CIOs are required to work within extremely tight budgets whilst moving forward key initiatives such as mobile working and hosted solutions, both of which are becoming increasingly important to business growth. The pressure to satisfy both these criteria is mounting, but these seemingly conflicting demands can be aligned.During this session, we will illustrate how Business grade connectivity and hosted solutions provide the route to enabling new ways of working, and provide the solution to the contradictory challenge of reducing costs whilst investing to meet growth and business goals. The increasing demands of customers and employees alike are driving real pressures into the IT department... With the surge of new applications required/devices to support/flexible working etc... The real question is do businesses have the right infrastructure in place to support this demand and can they afford to upgrade when their IT budgets are under a microscope? Equally... Can they afford not to???
  6. There is no need to gold plate your network, leaving you at risk of paying over the odds. It is important that you take a holistic and strategic approach to connectivity. Ensure that the connectivity you use takes into account the future needs of your business and considers scalable connectivity to allow you to grow your network with your business needs. Upgrade when you need to – not pay over the odds now for something not fit around current needs but your future ones. TTB easily scale with your business to ensure that you only pay for what you need – delivering better value to your businessWith a corporate organisation, it’s often easier said than done to streamline and refine processes. Corporations by their very nature lack the inherent agility and flexibility of SMEs and often struggle with bigger, clunkier legacy networks that have evolved and expanded as business needs grew rather than as part of a strategic IT and telecoms framework. Conversely, you need to be looking for ways to reduce the time you spend managing IT and telecoms in practical terms. By converging applications onto one all-IP operating system, CIOs have the opportunity to consolidate operations and processes, making costs savings to please the CFO and enabling the scalable connectivity that will support the CEOs business evolution plans. You should also ensure that your provider allows you to choose the service and price point that most closely aligns with your bandwidth requirements; this is a key step to lowering your bandwidth costs.
  7. Business Grade Connectivity Messages:You need reassurance about the big issue of contention and a guarantee that your bandwidth will not be compromised. To ensure you’re receiving these levels of reliability, you need a network with a wide geographic reach and a resilient architecture which will best fit your business now and into the future: only Business Grade connectivity can truly improve efficiencies and boost productivity and profitability. You need the flexibility of scalable bandwidth in order to grow your connectivity in line with your aspirations. You need this to be delivered through a transparent pricing structure, so you can choose the service and price point that best suit your unique needs. Business Grade connectivity is relevant now and adaptable into the future. Connections need to be established with flexibility in mind to evolve and upscale with the changing and increasingly demanding needs of business users, but connectivity also needs to be a perfect fit for unique organisational requirements in the here and now. TalkTalk Business’ Next Generation Network has the reach (90% UK coverage) and technology to deliver affordable connectivity. TalkTalk Business is not restricted by patchy, legacy networks and so can offer state of the art connectivity, reassuring you that your Business traffic will be prioritised and guaranteeing connection speeds won’t dip below a defined MBPS, improving efficiency and avoiding risks to business critical applications.
  8. Cloud computing is expected to boost the UK economy by around £25 billion a year The importance of hosted solutions, as a significant aspect of UK business IT operations, is underpinned by the growing consumerisation of technology and the move to a BYOD culture. Add to this the fact that individuals now have access to a myriad of information formats (voice, video, data) on a range of devices (Blackberry, Android, iPhone, tablets) means CIOs are dealing with an employee base that is more technology savvy than ever. The demand from within is becoming a key driver in the adoption of new technologies across the business environment Hosted technologies are an inevitable step towards supporting the trend towards mobile and remote working. It’s essential that UK businesses have the technology in place to enable this new way of working – and the Business Grade connectivity necessary to support it Hosted solutions should be seen as an opportunity to overcome stagnation and develop and implement a new IT and telecoms strategy that works for you. So, how do you ensure you’ve got the connectivity in place to support it?
  9. OPEX v CAPEX – easier to plan and budget forLower TCO – minimal capital outlay – better cost controlInnovation has been staid for too long – need for investment (under-investment impacting on business performance)Better marginsHosted solutions provide a tangible impact on cost reduction, helping to present a compelling business case Financial Advantages There are several factors driving the adoption of hosted solutions. The first is the ‘pay-by-the-drink’ financial model that allows business of all sizes to move away from high frontend expenditures in favour of a more manageable operational expenditure approach. Small and mid-size companies typically do not have the ready access to cash to make the necessary capital expenditures for expensive new premise equipment. As a result, making the shift from capital expenditures (CapEx) to operational expenditures (OpEx) is especially relevant for these firms. Additionally, the pay-as-you-go model also simplifies overall cost management and business planning, making it more favourable than the CapEx model. From a customer perspective, the low upfront investment, instant access to cutting-edge technology and rapid results make the model difficult to ignore. The real enabler of the low cost model is, surprisingly, a technical one; leveraging multi-tenancy architecture. End-users, referred to as tenants, share server capacity in a partitioned environment. This allows the hosted provider to pass on cost savings from the economies of scale realized through the use of shared resources.Expanding operations and adding agents can be accomplished easily and cost-effectively using the hosted model. A major benefit of the hosted model is the ability to rapidly scale either up or down to meet business demands due to business growth, unexpected and/or fluctuating call volume from seasonality, new product introduction, sales promotions, etc. With the hosted model, organizations can purchase technology ‘on-demand’ to meet their average requirements and avoid over-provisioning to handle peak periods. Outbound marketing campaigns can thus be tailored in the same fashion. In this way, hosted allows for business growth without disrupting or changing the infrastructure. Reductions in upfront capital expenditures and associated lower total cost of ownership (TCO) are key drivers in this market. In this way, hosted contact centre solutions continue to offer an attractive and cost-effective alternative to premise-based solutions.
